  1. Finished Red seas under Red Skies, and The Republic of Thieves. The former is better than the latter. The nautical lessons were hilarious. And the part where Locke charges on the other ship. I like Sabetha. But I think she views Locke more as a competetor. Overall, both books are nice. Lastly, bondsmagi are *******
  2. I am playing Diablo II : Lord of Destruction. This time with Assassin. It's my favourite character, after Necromancer.
  3. From where did you all study calculus ? When I was learning Calculus, my book was below Stewart level. I mean, there were no epsilon-delta proofs. No formal definition of limits. All I know is that I memorized various formulae of derivatives, and integrals. However, in college, I got Thomas and Finney (9th Ed.). That's pretty nice. It hooked me into mathematics. Though sadly I cannot practice it, because of the burdens of my own course. If I ever got time, I will definitely try my hand on Apostol. It's one of the best calculus books I've ever seen.
  4. I read the TOR speculations thread (there are many more), where one theory is that Newarre lies to the west of Vintas. I think because, the demons come from the mountains. And anything done to university is not known. Now, the taxes are raised by "the King". And Kote expresses surprise when he first sees the demon, saying that they've come that far from the mountains. Mind you, I do not have the book right now. So I could be wrong at some points.
  5. I really like Laplace Transforms. They make solving ODE (Ordinary Differential Equations) so easy.
  6. Reading Magician's Gambit by David Eddings. Gotta love Silk !! Otherwise, the series is quite satisfying. It was made more than 25 years ago, after all. But one thing constantly nags my mind. Why do Tolkien-esque fantasy shows west as all goody goody, and the east as "so evil, that I dare not go there" ?
  7. Second one. Definitely. Sanderson really does what Wit says about expectations in his monologue. I had great expectations from him, and he delivered more than that.
  8. My advice to math haters - Do not opt for electrical engineering, if you hate calculus.
  9. It's one of the best science book I've ever read. Randall Munroe makes tough science interesting and easy to read. Also, despite, what the title says, not all questions are scientifically answered. Some of them are there as jokes... which is a good thing, I guess.
  10. Holidays for a week. And the best thing is, I don't have much work to do. So YES !! all my time and energies will be devoted to the singular pursuit of devouring books.
  11. Harmony is not Sazed as whole. In Shadows of Self, it is indirectly implied that Ruin still influences him. So, you've got Sazed who earlier was Lawful Good, now become Lawful Neutral. That's my opinion. I think this is because, Sazed as simple Terrisman wouldn't have done what he did to Wax, because he himself suffered in Mistborn book 2. Regarding another God. No doubt Harmony is very powerful, because the Cosmere is so big, and full of crafty characters, it is quite reasonable assumption that the new God is a recent "news" to Harmony too.
  12. Did I mention Oregairu ? The season 2 of this show was very good, in my opinion. Though, the ending left something to be desired. Still, it is highly recommended. Though, if you don't like long monologues, or characters expressing their philosophies, then it may not be that good. I really liked when the teacher says to Hachiman ,"[...] People hurt each other just by their presence (or existence ?). You cannot help if someone hurts you. "
  13. That's the thing about audiobooks. They get your pronunciation better. Many times, you can even envision the whole scenery in your mind. This seems difficult for me when reading paperback. Also, Bradon's audiobooks are awesome for a reason. They are narrated by Micheal Kramer. His voice fits the novel perfectly. Many times, I try to mimic him when reading something.
  14. Budapest by George Ezra. Nice song.
  15. I played Age of Empires II HD . Heard there's a new expansion coming, The African Kingdoms.
  16. I got a "Seeker". Well that's nice.
  17. I'd rather be a feruchemist. Though, if that isn't an option, a coinshot would be my choice.
  18. Shadows of self will be released here on November 4. But the great thing is that it won't be expensive. Thanks amazon.in Earlier, I remember Brandon's previous works being very expensive, at around Rs. 1100. You would have to wait an awful lot of time just so that the price got right.
  19. A top ten list got me into it, as far as I can remember. However, after that it was my fandom that let me explore and read his other novels.
  20. Today I learnt that "many men behave stupidly in front of beautiful women".
  21. I started Uprooted today. Read upto page 80. I think it is a good novel, but not like Sanderson's. I mean, the magic is pretty straightforward. Having read Sanderson, and Erikson, so much, I think my expectations have been a little high. I found the protagonist, a little irritating, but that is understood. She's quite immature early in the novel. The dragon, however, is my favourite character.
  22. I thought about watching this series many times, only to forget later. Thanks. I think it will be a fine show; after all Shinchiro Watanabe is its director.
  23. While reading, Thinking Fast and Slow, learnt about priming. It is about how an idea, even if alluded to, affects the actions and thoughts of an individual. Eg. If you tend to think old, you will act old (that's priming, in a layman's terms). Now the reverse is also true. If you act old, you will tend to think like an old person. This holds true for many things. Another example (from same book) :- There was an experiment involving donation in charity. The experimenters had a "honesty box", in which you would put money into. Near it was a picture. It could be either of [a] eyes watching you flowers. People were more likely to donate money, if the picture was of a pair of eyes watching them, rather than flowers. The difference was significant. The author says that this is because people tend to adjust their behaviour whenever they thing that someone is watching them. This gave me a hint of how systems like "God is watching you", or the dear leader is always watching you works.
  24. Movie - The Secret of Kells It was amazing. TV Show - The Ascent of Man It's praise cannot be described in words.
  25. "[...] We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it." - The Wise Man's Fear, by Patrick Rothfuss I like it's Prologue, and Epilogue too. This one too. The second last line, by Wit in The Way of Kings:- "What is it we value ?" Wit whispered. "Innovation. Originality. Novelty. But most importantly... timeliness. [...]"
