oathpact Oathpact and the origin of high storms
DreamEternal replied to Maple Duke's topic in Stormlight Archive
To add on the "Storms predate the Shards" the letter in WoR, an answer to the one in WoK, tells the author of the first letter, most likely Hoid, that the worlds he now threads "bear the touch and design of Adobalsium himself", showing that Adonalsium messed with more worlds than just Yolen, home of the original humans. Plus, the Stormfather calls the Listeners the ancient ones, hinting that they predate humanity, and it is quite unlikely that the Listeners predate highstorms, since they need their investiture to bond spren. This also hints that the Stormfather may have been a spren of Adonalsium that got hijacked by Honor somehow, since the Listener interludes don't even hint about a time with highstorms but no Rider of Storms. -
I can say this thread is creepy.

Sad about the unexplained downvotes. It wasn't me, I don't like the idea of downvoting people I disagree with, since if everyone did that this community would be much less diverse. -
What command would you give nightblood

Bring the singularity. Make humanity transcend mortality. Break the cicle. Bring forth the new world. Create perfection. Be perfection. Transcend. -
Hard to say... Kaladin has some of my agressive and/or depressive tendencies, but is too much of a leader, while I tend to stay with myself. Renarin is too shy and submissive. I haven't read Elantris or the novellas, so my character pool is somewhat small. Elend is the closest I can think, but he is still not quite there.

Szeth... in mistborn? I think he meant he read mistborn first and liked Szeth in SA. But I find him more pitiable than despicable, he is just too weak of will for me to see him as guilty of obeying. The shin fanatical following of stone shamanism turned him more into a tool than a person, and I have a hard time hating someone for their weakness. -
No, they need to burn metals to use allomantic abilities, and can't burn their own spikes.

Main character≠focus character. We may not get an Adolin book, but we may still get some character development from him. I hope. I am starting to be worried, and it is your fault Maxal. Still, I don't think he needs to be a focus character. Him not getting flashbacks or being seem throught the eyes of other characters is not so big a problem when you notice one thing: Adolin is honest, direct and genuine. He is not a man who questions himself at every step like Dalinar, or speaks of nothing he does or sees like Renarin, or someone living a lie, like Shallan. If you want to know how he feels, he shows it. If he has a deep concern, he tells it. So he doens't lose as much as other characters from being show by other people's eyes. I just hope the recent turn of events makes he become more than Dalinar's sidekick or Kaladin's foil, because I agree with you that sometimes it seems he is there to just develop other characters. -
Why the 17th Shard is so Awesome

You are all insane. Not in a bad way, but still insane. Says the guy who theorizes about fusing hemalurgy spikes and fabrials to force a spren bond to an unintelligent spren and see the results. -

Granted. Since that is not realy a boon, I must give you something that is not realy a curse, so now everytime someone says your name you hear the sounding of war horns instead -

People are capable of derailling threads with passionate 5 pages long battles between pet theories and in the end everyone agrees that the other has valid points, even if they are not convinced. -
I assumed that it just saud they would need someobe else to take over if they managed to get a truthless abd he betrayed them, nothing impressive. I wonder if they ever tried to send someone to ask the nightwatcher for an update to the diagram, or though it woulg be to dangerous. I mean asking for something that can change the fate of the world will bring a BIG curse. Also, the diagram is not flexible because it requires the destruction of potential assets. If he had killed Dalinar there would be an army of trained voidbringers marching West. If the kingdoms of the West had been as broken as Jah Keved he probaly wouldn't be able to take control before looters and warlords took the supplies and gems for soulcasting and spebt then for war, deprieving him of redources. And every nation he brings down makes the world lose workforce, soldiers and scholars that would help rebuild. The diagram can't accept half victorys, for they would be worse than defeats. Either if fails completely and just kills a bunch of people for nothing or it succeds completely and saves the world. Every half completed plan is a sacrifice with no pay off that makes it harder to succed.
-
Yes, no plan survives direct contact with reality. The diagram appears to have little flexibility and high stakes, a recipe for disaster. Maybe supersmart Mr.T still didn't have enough information to know he most likely wouldn't have another day like that?

Please, I expect that Shallan and Kaladin will recieve more viewpoint chapters than him in his own book. Plus, if you are talking about Adolin not being one of the main ten, I expect him to become more relevant, not less, and his lack of flashbacks being necessary to avoid redundance with Renarin and Dalinar.

Is reading The Stormlight Archive worth it?
DreamEternal replied to Red Ferring's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maxal, one does not need to be one of the big ten viewpoint characters to get attention. I believe Adolin will keep being an important viewpoint character for the first five books, and the last five should be treated like a new book series instead of the same as the first five, in terms of characters -

We just need less Kaladin and more Szeth/Adolin/Eshonai. He has already gone through most of his development and meeting his parents will be a good wrap-up for his plotline. Then he can stay somewhat in the background to open space for the development of future main characters so the switch will be smother. -
Kelsier? The "consuming" of souls could just be he creating the seeds of his church to feed his megalomania.
