Whoops, I knew it was somewhere on tumblr (now I'm gonna link to it... Here! thank you badger for doing the good work for us) We need all of the manifestos. All of them. We can build a fort out of evidence from the manifestos that's how much we have. Maybe if I chant long enough some kind soul will edit the poll and add Jasnah? shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah

thanks, kogi! if I just start chanting "shasnah shasnah shasnah shasnah" similar to how I am over in the Steris thread, how fast do you think I can derail the convo. You know, I'm pretty sure there was a post on... somewhere, detailing every piece of Shasnah ever. Wasn't that Feather's, actually?? Or was that one about Kadolin?
-
I am actually fairly certain Steris is not-straight. Not necessarily lesbian, but not straight (my current speculation is asexual. hecka ace. so ace. ace aro. what are relationships people are illogical and I want no part of your shenanigans I have a House to run). While she has never met Ranette, and I don't know that she ever will, unless she for some reason needs to acquire a gun, it is very unlikely they could possibly be in love. But I won't say you can't ship it! It'd be a cool match. Like... Spirk cool. Oh gosh, now I'm thinking about it, oh no. edit: (I'm also running on the assumption that Marasi is at least bi, but also not straight, based on the trope that going to university makes her more "cultured" and exposes her to more than bland nobility default heteroness so she has actually had the chance to determine at least one part of herself for herself. It'd be a nice piece of character development alongside the illegitimacy issue and all of the emotional problems that stem from that).

tbh I am just going to ignore the overwhelming het in this thread because Shallan has seen Jasnah's safehand and other parts and lingered on them light blind it. Shasnah! Literally, I only voted Shadolin because Jasnah is not an option up there, though she definitely is in the series. Shaaaaaaaaaaaaasnah. Nooooon-monosexual couples please for the love of Harmony just accept that people are going to ship them and therefore please include those options in your fandom-poling. Please. (shasnah)

[quiet applause] I literally can't add anything else to that.

He's just reached the Fifth Heightening, like all the Returned, right? The Returned are super powered immortal because they have one god-Breath that pushes them to the Fifth Heightening, which grants immortality +. Its in Warbreaker's Ars Arcanum. He doesn't necessarily have to have died and Returned to be immortal via Breaths. This is my assumption on the matter (I have a pet theory that Vivenna reached the Fifth as well and is world hopping with Zahel/Vasher). I don't know that the FIfth also grants form-shifting abilities like Returning does, but it's likely (Hoid is way overpowered anyways be's probably like the 11th Heightening just to be a butt).

Your favorite character from first Trilogy
theravenchilde replied to TheWarriorPoet's topic in Mistborn
Allrianne. She's adorable, likes to shop, and wraps everyone around her finger with the quiver of a lip and sometimes the judicious use of Allomancy. I love her. A lot. Also, it's just nice to see a female character who is not a "strong" female character and is still well respected by the other females, and has a loving relationship with her daddy. -
I consider myself an Augur by WoB. I picked up a book he'd Brandalized several years ago and it had a Gold Allomancy sticker in it. Since then, I've done a lot of meta-ing on how it could be most beneficial. Eventually, I came up with this idea: using it like restarting at a recent checkpoint. After making a choice, burn gold. If your gold-shadow isn't what you want, make a different choice. And so on. It gets more muddled when choices are less clear cut, but focused application and practice could make it almost as powerful as atium in the right circumstances.

Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
theravenchilde replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
And to detour away from the current discussion of "lets cast every cosmere novel with white people from superlordofthewhoflylocketc!!" I've just started a graphic series with my fancasting for Warbreaker. The first post is here edit: and part two is here edit edit: and part three is here and edit edit edit: part four is here. However, I will post the entire list here for better referencing for others, although it will appear on my tumblr as well as in a summary post when I've finished my graphics. I made my cast on the assumption that the area of Nalthis where Hallandren and Idris are located is environmentally similar to South America, specifically between Peru and Brazil. As such, all of the images in my graphics are from there, and 99% of my actors are either born in Latin America, of direct descent in a very few cases, or at minimum a person of color. Hallandren is a jungle. I picked the Amazon, but we could very well use the Congo, or India, or Polynesia. The only person from the previously suggested cast list, joke as it may be, that I would keep is Morena Baccarin, who is from Brazil and would make a great Blushweaver if my first choice wouldn't go for it. I tried to sort my choices on a basis of looks and how much acting experience they had (which is somewhat difficult, as there are few popular Latin@ actors). Vivenna- Catalina Moreno Her role in Maria Full Of Grace is fairly similar to Vivenna's experiences (although, as it is based on real events, is far more important than a fictional character's suffering) and she earned an AA nomination for it. She can handle Vivenna. Siri- Genesis Rodriguez she's Cuban and younger, and has better acting credentials. Lightsong- Oscar Issac its.... Oscar Issac. You saw him in Star Wars. Vasher- Henry Ian Cusick who doesn't want Desmond/Jesus to play Vasher? No, seriously. Also, he won't look too out of place in a certain other thing. Susebron- Dayo Okeniyi is younger than Cataline and Nathalie, but that's what makeup is for. He is attractive, imposing, has a great physical presence, funny, and his voice is a good perk. My original cast was Sean Blakemore, but he is far too old. Llarimar- Benjamin Bratt has quite a bit of experience in a variety of roles, and seems like he can pull off the balance of Scoot linefacing at everything with the occasional hints of exasperation and dramatics, and looks fairly similar to Juan. Denth- John Leguizamo is vaguely creepy, just like Denth. Compare between Tybalt and his roles now, and imagine his dynamic against Henry, and I think this will work great. Blushweaver- Sofia Vergara is amazing and please just imagine Blushweaver with the accent. She is also gorgeous, which is kinda the other thing we need for Blushweaver. Second choice is Laverne Cox, third choice Morena Baccarin. Parlin- Lázaro Ramos is both attractive, Brazilian, a talented actor and also someone you could fall in love with and be very upset over when he dies. Look at that smile. He's also old enough to match Catalina. Tonk Fah- Gael García Bernal is a well known, somewhat older Mexican actor with a very good resume. While he's not quite the thug type I was looking for at first, and would prefer, I think he can balance well against John Leguizamo. Jewels- Magaly Solier is slightly scary looking, very pretty, and will make a very intense Jewels. She was also my first pick for Vivenna, but I can't find another, younger indigenous Peruvian actress for Siri. If they hypothetically found an unknown actress for Siri, I would immediately give Magaly Vivenna's part. Arsteel/Clod- Santiago Cabrera if you're gonna let a zombie follow you around, he might as well be an attractive zombie right? And Santiago already knows how to use a sword (he is my second choice my Lightsong, as well). Treledees- Demián Bichir is a well known actor with the gravitas to be the high priest of a powerful religion and garner the sympathy needed in the end. Bluefingers- Wilmer Valderrama or an unknown indigenous South American actor, more preferably. I want all Pahn Kahl actors to be played by native South Americans. If Twilight did it so can we. Lemex- Daniel Zacapa has played parts similar enough to Lemex to make it work. King Dedelin- Ricardo Darín as an aging king, making an extremely difficult decision and then basically never being heard from again? Okay. Nightblood- Antonio Banderas tell me you don't want to hear him ask you to destroy some evil. My first choice would have been Ricardo Montablan, if he weren't dead. Fafen- Cote de Pablo Ridger- Paul Alayo Shashara- Ana de la Reguera Yesteel- Jimmy Smits Nanrovah- Horatio Sanz Stillmark- Edgar Ramirez Inhanna- Kate del Castillo Mercystar- Morena Baccarin maybe? OR SNOOKI who fits my criteria and Mercystar's only job is to flutter around inanely or Naya Rivera if I can’t get Snooki Weatherlove- Harry Shum Jr with blonde hair. That's why hair dye was invented. Truthcall- Adan Canto Lifeblesser- Ignacio Ariel Serricchio Thame- Luis Moncada Allmother- Fernanda Montenegro Vahr- Marcio Rosario Mab the Cook- Roxana Brusso General Yarda- Carlos Carrasco Pahn Kahl are native/mestizo. Hallandrens are Brazilian. Idrians are Peruvian/Argentine. Bolded characters are ones who will get a fancy graphic, the others will just be included on the summary post. Female characters are underlined, as a personal reference of the f:m ratio.- 99 replies

Kaldin/Shallan/Adolin/Renarin sedoretu. We get all the relationships, no incest, and everyone is placated. (a sedoretu is a poly marriage from an Ursula K Le Guin novel, in which two pairs of people (two each from a class division called a moiety, either Morning or Evening) get married. You can have sex with the the other couple, but not with your partner from the same moiety (basically a sibling relationship. Adolin and Renarin would be from the same moiety, so they can't do the do, but they can with either Shallan or with Kaladin. I believe orgies are also taboo, so that's not an issue here either. So now we get both het ships and homo ones and everyone is happy).

My dad gave me the Wheel of Time around when Robert Jordan died, and then maybe a year later he handed me Mistborn and said "Here read this, he's Mormon and finishing off WoT tell me if he's good," and then I fell in love.

It's just a coping mechanism, unrelated to her disassociation? I have a similar "void" of feelings when I have to debate, or when I get angry. Forcing oneself to think in only the strictest, most practical and logical mindsets often, as a result of emotional/social connotations, feels cold. Its why we call Vulcans "cold, unfeeling [bad words]." The coldness of clarity is simply restricting emotions from having a hand, keeping tempers in check. (Unless someone else thinks otherwise?)

I'll just sit in my corner, by myself, with my fleet of ot3s that will never be canon. But hey, its not that important to me (I am not so concerned with shipping as I am with Eshonai and Thude and Axies and basically anyone who is at least not Alethi but preferably not human). Honestly, though, I'm not super invested in most Rosharan relationships, and so I don't give much of a crap who ends up with who so long as they're happy and healthy and no one is telling them they can't be together because they've never shown any textual evidence before for liking that particular gender. (I could work with that. She can help keep him from being robbed all the time, and store his notebooks. He can help her keep track of people/places/things. Also, blue people.) (I've talked about my hopes for Steris and Marasi to be super lesbian butt kicking sisters who rule their House with a steel hand of the law, but that's probably something for another thread)

Oh, I'm going to talk about the spectrum part of Leinton's explanation, since this can get more into psychological and federal definitions, and again, my job! Autism Spectrum Disorder is a very, very wide umbrella term used to describe and categorize a number of developmental disorders (not to be confused with developmental delays, though they are similar. A delay may be what you described, shawnhargreaves, just learning social or other skills slower than typical. A disorder is a specific impairment in that area of functioning to a severe enough degree intervention is required). Its not just "autism, high functioning autism, aspergers, etc" but, under the new Diagnostics manual (DSM V) a broad category of ASD with specifiers denoting severity and ability. You don't either have autism or not. There's a very gray area around the legal definition threshold set approximately at Aspergers syndrome. There are plenty of people on the other side of that threshold who, while their symptoms may not qualify for an IEP (individualized education plan, which includes the academic diagnosis but not always a medical one), do essentially have autism and get to flounder around in that gray area, which sucks, and get pretty much no help. I grew up in that gray area. I think Renarin did too (my assumption is subject to change as I gather more data on Renarin's behavior, with Feather being my best source. p sure she has everything he has ever said ever memorized). I can't say whether or not he'd get a medical diagnosis or an IEP, but I doubt it, jk he would under multiple disabilities, as the seizures would definitely negatively impact his ability to learn, as it seems his coping skills would have been able to hide any problems (not that he shouldn't have gotten help, but considering how little attention people pay to him, including myself, he could have easily slipped under the radar). Since we have no flashbacks on his childhood, where symptoms would first manifest and be the most obvious, I don't want to be definitive, but WoB confirms text is consistent with general symptoms of ASD. He's on the spectrum, but in the lighter end. I must point out, though, that high functioning autism would have a language delay associated with it as well that Renarin does not present, making Aspergers or a severe social development delay, along with his seizures, a more likely diagnosis. Spectrum. Not just autism. Lots of thing that all share symptoms. Renarin's on it.

I'm down with Kaladin/Axies for crack shipping. Everyone should date a blue person. As for what I would actually like to see, not Shalladin please, mainly for reasons everyone else against it has already stated. tdlr for the rest of my post, what everyone else said. I am, however, more than okay with a proper polyamory of Shallan, Adolin and Kaladin, and not all of that relationship has to be sexual, but its still a relationship. Not a love triangle. A relationship. I am going to emphasize that, because I see people still talking about them being "a functional love triangle" in other venues, and it annoys me for similar reasons as why others are much more justifiably upset at the bi-erasure happening. Anyways, that is what I would like, and I could see it a. happening in some fashion and b. working out reasonably well in canon but c. much more unlikely than Kaladin being either only straight/gay or, unfortunately, seeing a queer main character, at least in the first set of five. Maybe by the time Brandon gets around to the second half, considering the sheer amount of other series he is also working on, he will have increased his characterization skills and will finally consider himself ready to write a queer character who you know, actually does things where everyone can see them and has to pay attention to. I'm not even going to touch the Renarin discussion, as that is also being held in the neuro atypical thread, a more appropriate place for me to sternly lecture in.
-
This is definitely why I never saw any spectrum-pings from him, and I'm a special ed major. Diagnosing autism is literally going to be my job, and I missed Renarin completely. However, given the evidence and quotations from him, out of context and where I am actually paying attention to him, yeah, he probably could qualify as threshold ASD. Probably not IEP worthy, I think, but I still don't have the data points to back that up. If anyone wants me to go into the actual differences between various Autism Spectrum Disorder designations, in regards to before and after Aspergers was folded into the ASD definition, I can in varying degrees of detail.

What's YOUR Talent?
theravenchilde replied to Silus - Shard of Flame's topic in Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
My Talent is info-dumping. I am the handy NPC who always has vital information for your quest just before you need it. Or don't need it. Or never will need it. It might not even be for your quest, but it's definitely important to someone, okay?
