The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
theravenchilde replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In Well of Ascension, it mentions that the language of Terris had a gender neutral pronoun. If you actually constructed the language, what was that pronoun? Or did you just leave it as its English translation of "it"? Can magic systems on other planets be classified as "end-positive" or "end-negative" like those on Scadrial can? Including magic systems we may not have seen yet? -
Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
theravenchilde replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
I do understand your concerns, and while I like him there, I am open to other suggestions. Provided, you know, that they're Latino. Can you think of someone else with the right acting acumen to go against Cusick and Catalina and more look the part? In my casting of Leguizamo I was going more for acting skill and mood rather than straight up looks.- 99 replies

Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
theravenchilde replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
John has had a huge variety of roles, and most of them are /not/ bad guys or any twist to them at all. Adam Baldwin? Does the "good guy was actually a bad guy all along" in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS ROLES. all of them. This is his typecast. He also is, tbh, not that great of an actor. He has a limited skillset. And Nathan Fillion is almost always the traditional buff superhero type, which does not fit a single character in Warbreaker (I'm assuming you're suggesting them for Vasher vs Denth, so Adam would give away Denth's true allegiance instantaneously, and Nathan is just. I'm gonna laugh if you think Vasher is a buff manly dude. He's a dweeby, if talented swordsman, scientist.) Furthermore, they're both white and therefore have no place on Nalthis.- 99 replies

Again, Brandon's major failing. Hair is a ludicrously easy thing to change--most actors even wear wigs, rather than their natural hair. You can't pick an actor on the basis of similar hair color. The only other descriptions Brandon ever writes are height and weight, both of which can also be changed via prosthetics and camera trickery. It is freaking impossible to fancast based purely off canon book descriptions. It makes me wanna stab something just a little. Anyways, I've finished my Alloy of Law cast, and the graphic series is up on my tumblr here. Wax- Richard Armitage Wayne- Josh Hartnett Steris- Natalie Dormer Marasi- Tatiana Maslany Lord Harms- Ben Miller Ranette- Stephanie Beatriz Miles- Colin Farell Tillaume- Peter Cullen Lessie- Ming-Na Wen Tarson- Byung-hun Lee Bloody Tan- Clifton Collins Jr Edwarn Ladrian- Jason Isaacs Telsin Ladrian- Emmy Rossum Constable Brettin- Gbenga Akinnagbe Obviously, my picks are subject to change. There's several characters I think I can pick better people for (Colin Farrell being one of them. After seeing Total Recall I'm much less warm on him as Miles). My favorite cast from here is for Ranette. Rosa is basically already her, so the character is not that much of a change.

Brandon Officially Announced for Salt Lake City Comic Con!
theravenchilde commented on firstRainbowRose's article in Brandon and Book News
Hopefully I'll be going too! Probably in a Mat Cauthon cosplay. -
I see your bad fancasts and raise you Benedict Cumberbatch as all the characters. Yes even Kliss. Actually having Ben at all in Mistborn would be bad casting. #keepcumberbatchout2K14 As a more serious warning, however, I'm about halfway done with my own fancasting for the whole series. I'm doing a little under 60 characters, so this is taking a lot longer than my Warbreaker casting. I've also been rereading the series and highlighting EVERY SINGLE PIECE of physical character description, with plans to add it all to the Coppermind when I've finished. If anyone else is working on their own casting, I have references for almost every single character if you need them. And, if you've seen my Warbreaker cast, so y'all know what's coming to this thread when I'm done. I'm also going to get to work on a graphic series for Alloy of Law, since I've finished that book's cast.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
theravenchilde replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Has anyone asked him why half his male characters have "hawk-like" features? Because I need to ask him that. Because it's pissing me off. (context: I'm going through all my books, currently on Mistborn, and highlighting ALL of the physical descriptions of characters for references and he has such a narrow range of describing facial features and other characteristics!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL AUTHOR YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO BETTER THAN THIS) (seriously when I get all of Mistborn done I'm going to put it in one document and count how many times he uses the same words to describe people and how similar everyone is WHY THIS) -
Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
theravenchilde replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
Mercystar's only job is to wail about being attacked, and from what I've heard, Snooki did a pretty good job on SPN as a somewhat more serious character. Also, she was born in Chile, and therefore fit my criteria. John Leguizamo is an extremely versatile actor (Tybalt to Sid the Sloth. He can do anything) and I think would be able to play the best dynamic against Henry Ian Cusick as rival ex-brothers-in-law, and is likeable enough to go from a sympathetic mercenary friend to Vivenna to, you know, a bad guy. Also, you can just go and edit posts! There's a button at the bottom that says "Edit." Click on it. Edit your post. Submit. Voila. No more double posts.- 99 replies

I rather doubt it, but whatever.
-
... Did we read the same Vivenna, then? I think she made it pretty clear at the end of the book that she's choosing adventure (and probably like, prevention of the abuse of Nalthis's Investiture) over her sister and their countries. Going from "save my sister/the country at the same time" to "save the world" isn't much of a stretch of her internal logic.
-
Willshaper, purely because I saw molecular physics. PHYSICS. ATOMS. that is my jam.
-
But... why? Why would you even. Why. to reduce Vivenna's character growth to... that. why. edit: and to ignore pretty much everything about Vasher and how awesome he is and also very not-murderous?? Yes, I understand that was made in jest but. why
-
Vivenna will wiggle it out of him eventually. Vivenna's gonna get grumpier, but Vasher will be more capable of talking about feelings and junk and also not withholding vital piece of information just for dramatics *coughkelsiercouch* Well she probably shouldn't use it bc we like her alive and not Drabby. Vivenna obvs. Vasher is a butt. And in light of WoR, GUESS WHAT MY PET THEORY IS!
-
He is welcome about the good ship R.I.T. and all the science bound to happen. And snark. We can use Renarin snark.
-
I am reasonably certain that's gonna happen at least once in the Kingkiller Chronicles. Just. Just look at Kvothe. It's gotta happen, the plot demands it!
-
Dudes. Shallan/Sigzil/Hoid snarky teachy fun times. Throw in Jasnah too for additional SCIENCE and somewhat less philosophy. And for even MORE SCIENCE add Zahel/Vasher because did you see that man blabbing about Biochromatic theory just think about what theories he's putting together about Investiture on Roshar (maybe that's what Vivenna is off doing; gathering data! For science!) Basically now I want to start the Rosharan Institute of Technology with them. Thanks to Shallan/Hoid snark offs.

What command would you give nightblood
theravenchilde replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Warbreaker
I would command it to be a sword. It would be the swordiest sword to ever sword. -
Or the ever troped punch to the face, but hugs are better. If I may be crass, I also assume Jasnah is a lot taller than Shallan, so if/when we get a bonecrushing reunion hug, boob-in-face crushing will also occur. Actually, any hug between the two would have this happen unless they plan the hug carefully; I know this from experience. Shallan will also describe the shapeliness of Jasnah's safehand, this is a given because we like lengthy descriptions almost as much as Robert Jordan.

... I didn't even realize that but holy harmony yes!!

I already have a thing for operas, and space, and Shasnah, and also conspiracies and plotting and just omg this fic is basically everything I love ever I have bookmarked this on Ao3 and I want to make everyone read it because they should. Chapter 2 was great! A bit short, but it definitely covered all the ground it needed to, giving us more solid info on the various shenanigans going, some Shasnah... conversation? Not banter, but not introspection. It was a good setup for their future emotional confusion and constipation. And a great lead in for the more villainous aspects of the plot as well.

Brandon did not mention any sort of chief executive of the governing body of Elendel, but he did confirm it's reasonably similar to Parliament's House of Lords/Commons, so there's probably some sort of Mayoral body. I would like to request Steris with a Mayor sash, ASAP. Cosmereversal constant Mayor Steris. yes babies all of the babies (I could, actually, see them having like, one biological kid? Purely on the basis of logic "Waxillium as a descendant of the great Breeze Ladrian you are beholden to your house to provide a biological heir, and there is a high probability that heir will have some sort of Allomantic or Feruchemic abilities. Logic demands a child." "But Steris, do you demand a child?" "Of course not, but duty does. Duty is heavier than a mountain, and in this case, only physically demands nine months, with a lifetime of parental care that, as proven by the what is it, six orphans now? You have taken under your wing, I think both I and our House needs it and can handle one more child." "But... eww." "Unfortunately.") wow hey where is that dialogue ability when I need it to write mistbornstuck what the heckie me
-
I would also like a couple kids in your AU just for cuteness (they don't necessarily need to be biological. just think of Wax and his hero thing, and some cute spunky little orphan who totally outsmarts him) but yes please! Also Steris is the one in charge of everyone and everything and eventually she just rules the whole Senate-thing by sheer force of will and excellent organization skills. Wayne is just kind of in awe of her, after she finally puts him through the verbal wringer and shapes him up by eyebrow game alone (assuming her angry eyebrow is strong, which it indubitably is).
