  1. Are you telling me the thief isn't playersexual? Fie, what is this subversion of modern RPG standards? But okay, noted. I think we'd prefer not to put the thief in conversation with a wall though, so looks like we have to pray the charm gods take pity on us
  2. When you read an article on why mathematicians love Hagoromo chalk (apparently it's a dream to use), and you wonder if Rithmatists would also go wild with Hagoromo (I need to try it someday!)
  3. IDK, wouldn't being a prettyboy help with convincing him? Charm should work uphill if you're flirting but looking like the rear end of a Hutt
  4. Still at 4,500? 'Cause I'm way behind, thanks to an intense week involving belated Diwali celebrations and so on We can have the "oh god why are you so slow" punch fest
  5. Ditto on the Brightweave, with what Sorana said. So: [X] Visit Brightweave the Creative [Charm] But I also want to visit the thief personally. I don't really have a super in-game reason for this, just that I like this plot-hook and I want to be reeled in Aim: just find out what's going on with the thief! [X] Visit the thief @Wyrmhero, if we flirt with the thief can we make a Physique roll instead
  6. There was one with a black hat. (GoWibble.) Aranmir would have placed the Quest on his own shoulders, without hesitation, and offered his broken blade to the Ringbearer, but Lord Elberond had made it clear that he expected them to nominate others they felt would be of aid in the task. He had fought in battles for Gondor, and he had wandered long and lonely paths in the Wilds. If there was a Quest that needed to succeed, it was this one. Lord Elberond's words had made that clear. But Aranmir would respect Lord Elberond's counsel, though he longed to lend his sword to the Quest. The one with the black hat. He would do.
  7. Some of the loremasters still knew of Imladris in Minas Tirith, but walking in the house of Elberond was still a strange thing for the captain from Gondor. After all, he had been chasing a dream, all things concerned, except the dream had come three nights in a row until he could recount the voice that had told him to seek out Imladris, even as he lay awake on his bedroll. The roads, however, had been in ill-repair; his horse had been slain by bandits, and he had needed to fight his way through danger and perils uncounted, until at last, he had arrived at the Last Homely House, where Lord Elberond Half-elven, whose name was still spoken of with respect by some within the city of the fountain and the white tree, held sway. The dream had told him to seek counsel in Imladris; that there would be signs. A shattered sword - and indeed, as Aranmir entered the council room, he left his sheathed sword in the keeping of the door-warden, though he hesitated for a long moment. The blade had served him well on the long road, only to finally shatter on meeting an orcish blade as he swept on upwards through routes in disrepair, encountering only the occasional traveler and Ranger. Eventually, he left the sword with a brief admonishment to the door-ward to guard it well. No blade had better served a master, and in stopping the downrushing sweep of the orcish blade, it had saved his life. Aranmir was wont to think such service was ill-rewarded by casting the sword aside. The dream had spoken of a broken blade. And then, there was the matter of the halflings...
  8. Please, I was in PMs with all five by the end
  9. Cheers and congrats to the Eliminator team! I'm going to pull out of the next round, I'm afraid, as I'm tired of the amount of RP I've done, and I think I'm not especially inspired by Kavan after all. Thanks for RPing with me guys, and see you around sometime! Also, @Wonko the Sane - y u no PM Given who my main suspicions were, I felt we could've stood a chance together. There was no aid for Dale to be found in the house of Elberond. The elf lord spoke merely of a trinket of power, a Ring, and the need for a council to convene to debate the formation of a Fellowship who would embark on an arduous quest to cast the ring into the fires of Mount Doom. Dale did not need quests. Dale needed armies, alliances, aid. Dale needed promises that someone would remember her when the Enemy swept over the banks of the Carnen and the blood flowed like the wine once had. Kavan rode back to Dale that night. He did not tarry.
  10. Ping me when the new ruleset is up? I'm not unsympathetic to the player situation, but due to RL obligations, I just can't afford to commit to a game of the original's complexity at this point. I'll see what I can do if I get a glimpse of the new rules. No promises though, I'm sorry :/
  11. Kavan shrugged. "I've done some terrible things in the past, I'm sure," -and he had been arrogant, and recklessly confident in his own judgement, and perhaps he had not minded, just a little, and that blood would stain his hands and continue to. He traced the long, ropy scar that snaked along his forearm where an archer's bracer would normally have sat. He disliked bracers; they irritated the scar. "I wouldn't be so confident in my ability to resist the lure of the Enemy's Ring, if Lord Elberond speaks truly of the temptation it presents any being." He turned to the outlander who named himself Striker. "I'm certain my thoughts will change over time," he drawled - didn't they always? He had hoped to be better than the man who had fought the Easterlings and fled with the wounded. "But for the moment, had I to select the Fellowship today, with no delay, I would opt for Coda, the Observer, Pejidot, Aragorn, the black hat over there, Rathmaskal, and of course, Ulmo. Who better than a god to see the Ring to the fires?"
  12. Your faith in our ability to reach a consensus before the heat death of the universe is inspiring!
  13. Kavan stood up, waiting for a moment to ensure he had the attention of the assembled council. "I retract my own nomination, for the moment. I support the nomination of Ulmo to the Fellowship."
  14. OOC: Please don't include @little wilson, Elberond's updated status notes the Cursor of Doom has asked to not be included in every PM Also, IDK, clearly 1337 ninja skills so you should vote for me next cycle! Sauron will never see me coming if I Naruto-run! j/k Okay, jokes aside, I suspect it's because I had multiple 17th Shard browser windows open in different places but I can't be certain.
  15. There were faces within the chamber that seemed fleetingly familiar to Kavan, as though he knew them of all. The one who named himself Striker and claimed to remember nothing, in particular, brought back a fleeting memory of crossbow bolts and terror. He shook his head to clear it, and gave Striker a wide berth. No. Such was madness and best avoided. But there were those who were unknown to Kavan, and there, he wondered: why did they not tarry a little within the Last Homely House? The Shadow was falling everywhere, but haste was the ally of the Enemy, and as far as Kavan was concerned, wisdom came with careful deliberation, though he did not doubt that Lord Elberond would soon tire of them, if they tarried overlong, imposing on his hospitality. But perhaps the long journey to Rivendell still wore heavily on them all, but especially those Kavan knew not, and he felt that a little deliberation would not hurt. [OOC: I'm saying I don't think there's a need to rush - but more importantly, since we've talked about becoming a welcoming community, I fully intend to be the change I want to see and to play the first cycle slowly and let our large number of new faces and players get a softer landing in SE. Welcome, guys! Have fun!] As far as Kavan saw, however: if there were servants of the Enemy amongst them, then they could only seek to persuade with poisoned gifts and a foul tongue. They could even ease their path by silencing one of the voices of those gathered here to choose the bearers of the Enemy's Ring. But they could not - not alone - gather sufficient force to place themselves on this Quest. Not unless they revealed themselves entirely, and down that path lay ruin. "I have not yet seen reason enough to lend my voice to another's suit," he drawled, aloud. "I am by no means committed to this Quest: above all, my homeland is dearer to me, and it is only with reluctance that I offer my blade. But should anyone see fit to persuade me that another is best sent on the Quest, I will gladly listen to their counsel and decide."
  16. A! @Elbereth Gilthoniel! (Warning, image-heavy meme)
  17. Clearly he was in the first trailer, which also turned to dust/ash
  18. There was talk of rings of power, in Dale, where those still remembered the desolation of Smaug, but also the halls and forges of the Lonely Mountain, when a river of gold flowed through Erebor. The Master of Laketown had quelled such memories, but the slaying of Smaug with the Black Arrow had stirred them once again, and now that Dale was rebuilt, these memories came to dwell amongst them once more. King Girion of old had never borne such a ring, and old Maud had said once that it was, perhaps, for the best. There were lesser rings - coveted things, to be sure, but the wise knew that these led to grief. Kavan, however, had never heard such tales of rings as were spoken in the chambers of Elrond's council at Rivendell...nor did he wish to again. He hesitated. It would take more than their own recommendation, he knew, to convince Lord Elrond to permit them on this quest. A fool's quest, it must be said. What would become of Dale and the Lonely Mountain? And what would become of even the Mirkwood, in their absence? But the tales of this Ring were perilous, and Kavan's heart was torn. "I have ridden long and hard in search of aid for Dale," he spoke, aloud. "I have fought through peril and lived yet, to tell the tale. And I will ride harder and longer yet, through deeper Shadow, if it brings relief to my king in his beleaguerment. Lord Elrond Half-elven - many are those who speak of your wisdom. Is there to be no help for Dale at all to be found in your house apart from this fool's hope? Yet if it be a fool's hope, I, Kavan, would ride with the Ringbearer, though my heart fears for my king and Dale." Surely there were others in this very chamber who sought to endanger the quest. Kavan was not about to allow them onto it.
  19. I'm game for it if people are. I'm also up for buddying people on the janky site if people prefer that
  20. I for one am eager to see Callum talk to fellow regular elves
  21. Thanks for the pro-tip! I'm totally behind in my wordcount right now because I spent the whole past two days on work. Hopefully I'll get to make some progress tomorrow! >> Oh yeah, thanks, real life-saver. I tend to use [INSERT] and just move on All the best people! Keep on keeping on!
  22. !!! Can it be-? The Heir of Isildur has appeared in Imladris? So, OOC announcement thing, plus blah blah blah blue text is for RL realstuff and not sneaky lieses so: I've been going through a hard rethink about lots of my playstyle and the way I think about SE, the type of community it is, and the type of space it occupies between RP and mafia games. As I mentioned, I want to respond to this game entirely in RP. I'll probably talk a bit less while I'm finding my feet, and also because I'm Talning for three collagues at the moment But also, this will affect PMs. For those of you who have played with me in QF29 before (lol probably just Alv), I did not do any OOC posts. Everything was expressed through RP, including in PMs. I don't really expect to be Mr Popularity in PMs, but if you're PMing me, please be aware that if I'm taking forever to reply, it's probably because I'm hating myself for this extra RP requirement and dying while trying to finagle a RP response. Thanks for putting up with my personal midlife crisis in SE As always, I'm open to RP connections with people!
  23. I think we had one of these quite a while ago, but since NaNoWriMo has officially kicked off (I believe it's the second day now, at least for my timezone) - I thought I'd open a thread for general flailing, kvetching, possibly sprinting/finding buddies. Any of y'all doing NaNo this year? What on? I'll start: I'm doing a fantasy political mess thing that involves a civil war among siblings in an empire, which can be described as "if Scar was also terrifyingly like Yi Bang-won, and if the ruling emperor was the pick no one expected, and also incompetent, but trying his best." I'm always up to find writing buddies!
