  1. :eyes: :EYES: Hell yeah. Fair, yeah. I remember VP nibs are very wet and smooth, but the clip is a real issue for me. Fair point about the pluses of the Majohn. Itching to try one myself and I might in future Am still in the strange spot where I'm so happy with my grail I'm not feeling the urge to go to too many other pens at the moment, though I admire the creativity in the Chinese pens space (Majohn, PenBBS, and Jinhao.) I have gotten two Kakunos for the office though, largely for the refillable cartridge use. They're working perfectly, but this is Pilot, which tends to write really well out of the box
  2. Congrats! Serious, it's good though, COVID be whack and tiring so I hope you get to stay COVID negative for as long as possible! I'm sorry to say, yes? I mean, I guess that I'm weird, but I've had easier writing projects before. I don't always value the easy ones as much as the hard ones but there are easy ones that I do value significantly as well. (I wouldn't, for instance, value something that was dashed off quickly to meet a deadline, but I've also had pieces of writing produced under those circumstances that I do value anyway because I think it captures something of worth.) To be honest, I think that's where I'm coming back to, which is sort of the underlying question of why I want to write this. I feel like I'm struggling more because I can't really answer that question, along with the fact there's nothing I can articulate that's particularly compelling about the project. For normal projects, there's normally a theme or character or a scene that keeps me going. The fact I can't identify anything solidly that I want from this project is maybe a sign I need to pause and reflect more and then ask myself if I'm the guy who should be writing this, because there's no burning need to, and the story isn't living in me. I feel like the value question is a really good one, to be honest. Because if I don't value it, maybe that's a sign there's something wrong in how I'm thinking of it anyway. That's honestly pretty damn amazing and solid though, you really worked at it and pushed all of them out, congratulations! Even if it's not published published, that's gotta be an amazing experience for sure. Thanks, I really appreciate this and it's probably the kick to the rear I needed. Don't worry though, this isn't doubting my skill utterly Just that I'm aware this particular project threshold takes a higher level of skill than I currently have. I don't really mind failing at it but I think a lot of my struggles are because I don't really know how to go about doing something at that level. It could be because I'm trying something very stylistically different from my usual work too, so there's an additional layer of frustration involved.
  3. The (sz)ETH financial revolution is spreading! Edited to add: Look, I was bored out of my mind in LG83 when I tried pacifism BUT that was before the Village destroyed my faith in it!
  4. Do I upvote you and destroy the beauty of that rep or not? Huh, now that is unexpected for me. I thought the VPs tended to be popular. What do you like about the Majohn? Have hesitated about whether to try retractable. (Did you go Curidas?) I will say the good point is that Majohn now sells refillable cartridges for Pilot that also have caps, so I can now carry filled cartridges of selected inks and insert them into my Pilots on the go without worrying about reusability.
  5. Sir how very dare You are very pacifist >:( If I'm Hoid or Khriss or Autonomy doesn't my job description literally say don't help the Village why would I help the Village >> More importantly: What has the Village ever done for me? I'm fine with them inevitably lynching me for refusing to analyse, vote or contribute, so they can let me down for the last time! How much is (sz)ETH worth in lumens of Stormlight or in Palpatine NFTs? :eyes: This is one train I can support >:) We came in like a wrecking ball.
  6. Yeah, but like you said, work, relationships, and growing families mean catching up is like trying to schedule a session of D&D together, only on hard mode. I guess I definitely see it as inevitable: we were friends when we shared the same major because we'd keep showing up in the same classes, but then our lives didn't overlap after that, so of course we'd start drifting apart. I have made some new friends though I don't know if we'll stay that way due to my constant lack of energy but I guess that's life, innit? I discussed this with a high school friend recently, because she was considering breaking off a friendship with another friend and we both reflected it's hard to expect to stay friends once your interests and priorities change. Maybe that's just how it works.
  7. Worth noting West Country (UK) accents use 'yer' too. Don't really recall why Venture named the thread this way, but the apostrophe is definitely an odd/spicy choice. Separator for the actual thing I showed up in this thread for: COVID shredded my immune system. Down again with an infection and more antibiotics than I've seen in the last five years of my life >> And my writing project ain't working out. I picked something that was probably more ambitious but felt worth doing but now I'm just stuck because I don't have the technical skill to carry through and it's frustrating because I can sort of see how it should be done but can't make it work :/
  8. What about 'the Drake who is a bro' and 'the Drake who is yet to be a bro'? >:P Sir, brave of you to believe I'd even vote smh What if I've decided to be a pacifist this game because I'm method acting a guy with a deep midlife crisis staring into the abyss of life??? What then??? Smh. Hi converters, you've been warned :eyes: I feel like it would be but you'd basically have to rely on classical having weird results when it comes to existence claims. And I don't disagree about that, but think that it's not even about the conditional, it just goes back to why even postulate thingness when you could just assert existential quantifier and then the predicate of being true in this case But this was when I was reading you as wanting to make a claim about thingness when it's like...why even do that and bulk your translation up? Edited to add: Smh this is like us calling you Dice if a new Mat signs up >:P
  9. Yeah, I think that's the main way I'd feel fine with it. It does tie into a bigger question about what is redemption and how most writers do redemption: Very much agreed. The fact there is this ambivalence towards Moash right now in my view suggests that there's more groundwork needed for a redemption arc. We could sort of see Sanderson go for a Gollum-type plot ("Pity? It's a pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.") I wouldn't mind, depending on how it's sold in a Moash death route. But I also kind of feel redemption=death is a bit cheap, and maybe not necessarily about where the Archives are headed ("The choice of Honour is life.") I guess to unpack what I mean by the fact it feels cheap: it's just that a lot of authors tend to do it with really Evil characters rather than have to put in the hard work of redeeming them. It's the "What happens if Vader hadn't conveniently died?" kind of ending where people then have to ask if one good act cancels out all the bad the character has done. How do you really atone or get redemption? Can you? It's a very, very meaty and good theme to unpack with a living character, but I definitely don't see it happening in the rush towards the end of the Stormlight 5 deadline. Not really a disagreement here I guess, just unpacking more thoughts I had on the issue. I do question the assertion there are no more emotional stakes for either of them. Moash has just murdered Phendorana and Teft and been struck blind by Navani. This is likely to keep him off the frontlines for the ten day rush, which spells out time for the character to either rethink or to double down. I don't know if Todium is as big about 'taking' Moash's emotions, either. It doesn't have to go upwards: Moash is likely tipped for a long fall towards rock bottom, and it doesn't have to involve Kal.
  10. Join us >:P Or we could go back to crypto, if you prefer? :eyes: Yeah but that's why I was ? because it looked like you were working specifically with thingness Drake1 and Drake2? ScammerDrake and NewDrake? :eyes: Inferno and Drake? :eyes: Agreed with the rest, but the way I'd've read the bolded is that it's not the case that x exists such that if x is a dog, then x is a mammal. Agreed though that if you're doing a proof, you'd want to swap to not have to negate your quantifier. Can't help you there as we weren't allowed to use it, only trees
  11. Yeah, basically. Minimally, I'd argue it's a very controversial take, which is what I'm going for with 'hot take' here. Moash is extremely polarising in the fandom, as to be expected from probably the only Sanderson character to have a subreddit named after him in this fashion: r/[expletive]moash. The survey you linked also has a 50/50 split which is probably about accurate, but I've seen previous Moash redemption discussions generate more heat than light. Last time I saw this much outrage was when Shadolin and Shalladin ships were at war (oh no I've done it now.) Maybe it's a bit off-topic so on topic: I wouldn't rule Moash out for his own Road to Damascus moment (interesting that he was stricken blind) and I think Sanderson could definitely make such a redemption work, but we'd have to see definite change in Moash for that to be plausible and IDK we're seeing any of that now, with Moash's tendency to double down. We'd also have to see genuine remorse, and doing it in the tight span of Stormlight 5 seems a bit questionable. Even then, I think parts of the fandom would be absolutely dead against it no matter what. Does mean it'll be harder to stick that landing. tldr; in principle, I believe Sanderson could do it, and that path isn't closed, realistically it takes a lot of work (and that's being genereous), and if it did happen, I'd feel it's a payoff in the second half, not right now. Leaning unlikely at this point in time. (Oh dear, the Sanderson Elimination subforum has infected me...)
  12. See, it's like you're translating this twice because you're not just using an existential quantifier, but you're also predicating thingness to it, but that's just doing double work. That's sort of the problem with Anselm's Ontological Argument but in reverse, because he sort of wants existence to do work over and above thingness, and then argues for existence predication when you could disagree with the idea existence really does any of that sort of work beyond thingness. Arguably, your argument depends on literal wordplay from 'thingness' to 'nothing You can argue not all things exist, but that's just the Kripke unicorn problem repackaged Because you sort of have to do that if you're saying 'is a thing' - at least that's the notation I was taught and I stick with it But when it's spelled out, I also thought you were doing a 'is a thing' from 'nothing' semantic move and I just realised you're not, so I don't disagree either. Probably but again, we used ^ in propositional but not predicate. I never asked why, I was too busy trying to understand everything else Tbh, I do think it's better translated as "It is not the case that a something exists such that it is a thing and it is true", but also thought you were explicitly using thingness to make the inference that "Nothing is true" violates the premise due to also being a thing, rather than just arguing it violates via the existential quantifier. Cf. the more direct something being along the lines of postulating ¬∃x (Tx), using modal logic to show that there is one thing (using this term here to suggest use of ∃ rather than thingness) in that world at least that is true, and then closing that branch of the tree. Not clear how this is the negation of premises. Could be your notation being weird given the translations to and fro Interesting as this isn't a move that we're allowed. Maybe fancy maths nerds can but you'd have to tree and truth table at this point for this move.
  13. Have you seen the state of the fandom everytime Moash is mentioned? Much less suggested to be vaguely redeemable?
  14. Gonna say that is a major hot take and really divisive, given the state of Moash in fandom You don't really buy that Moash is Kaladin's foil? The fact that Renarin envisioned him as a Windrunner seems to imply he's a Turn Left variant of Kaladin, where Kaladin really never put aside/worked past his anger towards lighteyes. He's basically every choice Kaladin made but bad.
  15. It doesn't if you don't think existence is a predicate Because your argument requires it to be a predicate.
  16. ¬∃x Tx Saying it's a thing sort of implies you've got in mind something like: ¬∃x (Thx → Tx)
  17. I mean... It sort of depends how you translate that into predicate logic... Just saying :eyes: Edited to add: Liesssssss
  18. Not saying we don't have friends... But if any of us did, would it be this hard to populate the game :eyes:
  19. Not publicised yet. A lot of speculation. Likely has to be a big stationery interest company - wouldn't buy Pelikan otherwise. Have heard speculation it's a Chinese buyer or Italian. Perch is probably the best source when it comes to tracking this.
  20. The problem is that I'm not, so I guess I'm just going to boot up KOTOR and have fun.
  21. I didn't register for mine either, though I guess I'm just too tired to want to. (People are tiring.) Though I do expect this year's Pelikan Hub will be dominated by people speculating about what Pelikan's impending sale is going to mean for Pelikan... Didn't know they controlled Geha and Herlitz too though. Herlitz has produced some very good writing paper (punches above its weight) but only if you select the correct kind. Local pen group found out the hard way...
  22. I guess that's why there's the mixed feeling. A sort of struggle to reconcile memories of friend groups with what has happened to everyone, a sort of 'how could that person do these things,' and a recognition that in life, people often don't show the most abusive, dark aspects of themselves to us, so of course we'd be blindsided. Thanks though, I've been burning some ink trying to come to grips with it
  23. Can't speak for your neck of the woods as I'm in Southeast Asia, but my local pen group has a section/channel that's meant just for selling pens, inks, and related paraphenalia. For inks, yes, used inks will move as well - buyer may want a good view of the condition and an assessment of how much is left, and you're generally expected to offer some discount since you're selling, e.g. a 3/4 full bottle. That being said, I notice the inks do/can move - the restricting factor here tends to be popularity of the ink. e.g. Someone won't have a difficult time selling Troublemaker Inks or Ostrich Inks due to general supply issues and desirability (locally.) If you're offloading Noodlers' in contrast, uh....good luck. Maybe check how groups in your area are for these things? Also will give you an idea of what you can sell and what you can't. The other option is to just put it up in your local group as a giveaway, e.g. specify the taker has to pay for postage or to meet you. Again, in my context, 'taker has to meet' is normally at most a half-hour's train ride, so IDK if it works for US-based people, but that's how it happens for us.
  24. It sensed your indecision and decided to help you out! GST is rising in my country next year (VAT-equivalent for Europe-based Sharders) so I'm going to try to clear inks and allowing myself one last purchase in October or November, since CultPens usually does a pretty big sale around that time. Have my eye on some of their Wonders of the World inks in 80ml - Diamine so not too pricey, but I've tried samples and really like the colours. But can't justify yet without writing more.
