  1. Cluny requested a small modification to his death writeup, and I've obliged his request. Go give him a few upvotes for the thematic appropriateness...
  2. Night 5: The Rat Who Fought Like A Man The expected retribution for the murder of their captain never appeared. Lord Conrad had locked himself in his study, and was seeing nobody but his Terris steward. The other officers of the guard seemed reluctant to press the issue, perhaps noting that draconian punishment on a set of frightened men with weapons was not likely to end well for them. In the midst of the apprehension, an idle conversation began in a bunkroom. "Hey, Mehir. Did you know that we have a rat running around in the colors of the guard?" Mehir looked back, blandly disinterested. Barry Allen pressed onwards. "Fine. So he's not a rat, but he thinks he is. Says he's got this prehensi-whatsit tail with a spearhead on it that he uses to murder his enemies. Poisoned, too, to hear him tell it. The fellow's gone crazier than old Lord Venture." Mehir nodded obliquely. Remart, lying in the top bunk on the other side of the room, looked over. "Can't you two just shut up? A guy's trying to get some sleep here. I've got night shift in an hour!" Barry wasn't one to give up though, and at this hour, with a little drink in him, he was bolder than ever. "Come on, Remart. You can't say that that's not the craziest thing you've ever heard of? I think we ought to go do something about that. Sounds like a tell-tale sign of Venture assassins to me! Poison? That's what got Absolen, poor guy!" After a little more cajoling, the three of them went off to find Cluny. Whatever was wrong with his brain, it hadn't affected his fighting abilities, though. The little man fought like a demon, but in the end, three on one odds was just too much. Forcing him back, back, back to a random bell tower that had appeared in the middle of the barracks, back, back into the floor. Barry Allen stopped. So did the others, forced back by almost a physical pressure. A voice spoke at once in their minds. DO NOT INTERFERE. Something was happening, because Cluny had stopped near a long rope, trailing down from a bell that had suddenly appeared. He appeared to be shouting at someone standing on the bell. There was an exchange of defiant shouts, Cluny's insane cackle became a shout of fear. GOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The great bell fell. R.I.P. 3. Hazkeillers cannot block the metallurgist dstributing metal. Only Captains can do that
  4. Hmm... we've got a choice between Bridge Boy and DroughtBringer for our last lynch. DroughtBringer has been inactive, so BB it is. One way or another, this is it. We get this wrong, we lose. We get this right... what? @Herowannabe what happens if both factions reach their win con on the same night? Like if the village lynches the last eliminator and the changelings kidnap the last element in the same cycle? Does the lynch come before the kidnap? If we lynch the changeling who puts in the kidnap order, does it cancel it, or did both still go through? Either way, BB. I'm pretty sure this is where we go from here. Game's up. Time to troll insistently.
  5. Night 4: Mutiny In the common room of the barracks, the mood was sour. The series of murders had left the guardsmen and women in a sullen mood, underlaid by an almost palpable fear. No cards were played at the tables, and no dice rolled in the corners. The laughter that had until recently filled the place was silent. Locke Tekiel made his rounds, checking to make sure that nobody was fighting, watching the sentries for signs of sleepiness or drink. And, of course, watching for hoarding of metals. It was prohibited, and it was his job to enforce that sort of thing. As he entered the common room, even the sullen murmur of voices grew silent - a sign that someone was disobeying orders if there ever was one. He spotted one soldier in the back covering something with his hand, and he walked towards him purposefully. The soldier tensed as Locke stopped in front of him. "What is that in your hand?" His voice was stern and inflexible. "N-N-N-Nothing, sir!" The other man was terrified. A sure troublemaker. He'd have to make an example here. Locke grabbed his hand in a practiced motion, finding a pressure point that caused the frightened soldier to clench his hand in pain, revealing a small pile of pewter shavings, apparently carved off of his mug of ale. "Hoarding of metals, forbidden. I'll have to lock you up for the night for this, you know." A chair scraped behind him. "You motherless fool! The Venture spies are murdering us like flies, and here you go on about locking someone up when all they did was try to figure out a way to protect themselves? Who do you think you are?" Insubordination. Aggression towards a superior officer. Flagrant disrespect of a scion of House Tekiel. Locke was going to enjoy taking this one down. He whirled around to face his accuser. "I am your captain, and don't you forget it!" Another man, swaying slightly with drink, stood up. "You know what I think?" he asked, his voice slightly slurred. "I think the captain wants us to be unprotected. I think he's in bed with the Ventures! He's gettin' paid good money to make sure we are walking around like targets while the assassins sit pretty in their hideout." Locke pivoted to face him, but a number of other soldiers were standing now. He summoned a voice of command, and shouted "Are you insinuating that I would deal with the ash-cursed spawn of the House of Venture?" The mood was turning ugly, and dark mutters were flashing around. Locke began to eye the exit, but there were three tables full of drinking soldiers giving dark glances his direction between him and safety. The first soldier made a move towards him, and the moment of suspense his authority had bought him broke. Locke darted towards the door. It was as he had expected. He didn't make it. ------------------------------------ Night 4 has begun! It will end at 10:30 PM, Mountain Daylight Time, June 11th. Locke Tekiel (OrlokTsubodai) was lynched! 6. Day 4: Fatal Attraction Absolen had a problem. A big one. He was skaa, a worker from the fields who by some stroke of luck or fate had managed to escape that drudgery and ended up a trusted soldier in House Conrad's guards. That was public knowledge - the entire barracks knew about his heritage, and he'd told his story over more drinks at the tavern than he could count. The problem was twofold. The first was in the note he had received from Mila, a fellow guardswoman, inviting him to a private dinner. Not that he had any objection to Mila personally, of course. She was charming, witty, and certainly half the barracks was madly in love with her. But she was a noble born. Sure, it was a House that had fallen on hard times, hard enough that she had hired out as a guard for a noble house that wasn't her own. But still, a noble with a pedigree that stretched back to a line sanctioned by the Lord Ruler himself. And he was skaa. The note was wholly innocent, if you just read the words. (It was still surprising, even now, that he had ended up learning how to read. A plantation skaa didn't need the skill. But Conrad valued literacy in his soldiers, and Absolen had qualified with gusto.) But it was full of the type of implied meanings that could get a skaa killed if he didn't watch himself. He'd lived under the shadow of the Inquisition his entire life. He knew how this worked. The second prong of the problem was his secret. His deep, dark, dirty secret. He was Metalborn. Lurcher, precisely. And that secret was one that was not known around the barracks. Blurting that out in public was a recipe for getting himself on the wrong end of an Inquisitor's axe. And that was a fate that mama's little Metalborn was going to avoid if it was the last thing he did. Just at that moment, of course, Mila turned the corner in front of him. "Absolen! Fancy meeting you here. Did you get my message?" "Yes, Lady. I did." The silence that followed stretched just long enough to be awkward. "Well, are you coming?" "Umm, I'm not sure Lady..." "I'll make something special, just for us." Her eyes smoldered, just slightly. Well, with an offer like that, who was he to refuse her? ------------------------------------ Dinner was exquisite. Of course, Absolen shouldn't have been suprised. He'd always suspected Mila of having far more talents than she revealed. He burped in appreciation, sipping his after-dinner tea. Quite flavorful, and seasoned with just the right amount of honey. Mila flashed him a sultry smile as the servant took the dishes away. "Thank you for joining me, Absolen. I've been wanting to have some time alone with you for a while now. Your competence has greatly impressed me. You are a credit to the unit, to be sure." "Well, I am always happy to oblige you, Lady Mila." His stomach was starting to get a little queasy. Lord Ruler, he hated it when his body worked against him like this. It would be just his luck to cap this evening off with vomiting all over Lady Mila's rooms. His innards twisted in a sharp pang all of a sudden, and he stood, a little shaky on his feet. "I'm sorry. I'm not feeling well all of a sudden. Can you excuse me for a moment?" "Oh? Yes. I suspect that would be the poison. As I said, I'm impressed by your competence. I'm afraid we can't have someone of your caliber running around interfering with our plans." He staggered a few steps, then dropped to his knees. Poison? Mila had...poisoned him? On his knees, he lurched forward, catching himself on his hands and trying to crawl towards the door. His stomach was all sorts of angry, now, like a swarm of hornets was inside and intent on stinging their way through the lining and out to the open sky. His head swum, and he began to lose focus. It had been a smooth operation. Smooth enough that even now, as he slumped onto the floor, he almost didn't believe it. It was difficult to tell through the pain, but he thought he heard a thunk, and a cry of pain. Then Mila fell on her side in front of him, clutching at her chest. Blood was pooling from a hole there. His stomach chose that moment to let go, and his vomit hit her face. Her pretty mouth twisted in disgust, but no words came out. Absolen smiled, as darkness began closing in. As far as last moments went, it beat an Inquisitor, hands down. ------------------------------------ Day 4 has begun! It will end at 10:30 PM, Mountain Daylight Time, June 10th. 7. BB. Jedal Just figured out how the Elims figured out to attack Brightness. The only living non-Elim pegasi last round had to hold the two Elements - Alv with Generosity, and Brightness with Magic
  8. Frankly, BB, we have 3 suspects left. You, DA, and Jedal. You were heavily involved in trying to cast suspicion on honesty. That could have been a reasonable suspicion from a villager, or an attempt by an eliminator to get us to lynch our scanner. There are possibly as few as 2 cycles left in the game. We've got to focus on our highest suspicion.
  9. This is a fascinating conundrum...how to balance this role? Aaand now you've made me want to run a game with a role like this.
  10. As I said - for the interactions between spikes and Mistborn/Mistings of the same ability. PAFO (That's Play And Find Out for the new folks)
  11. Alright and not quite perfect (perfect would have been catching a changeling last round). DA, BB, jedal, Ornstein. As least 2 of these are elims. So let's get lynching!
  12. Day 3: Murder Most Foul...Just Don't Ask Us Who It Was Valbar faced a dilemma. He always ran into dilemmas, it seemed, regardless of whether or not he tried to avoid them. It probably related to being ignored. He tried joining the army. Nobody noticed. He tried bodybuilding - still nobody noticed. He even took up interior decorating for a week or two, but that just made things worse. No matter what he did, nobody noticed him. But that wasn't even the worst of it. Tonight, he faced a despicable dilemma - one that taxed his ability to find a solution. Did he want a baywrap, or a chupaqueso? A difficult choice, to be sure. And the commissary wouldn't make both for him - they'd call it "greedy" and "gluttonous" and "taking more than his fair share." All while not noticing him. And, tangentially, he also wondered about how to get his fellow guards to listen to his theories on which of them were Venture spies. They were very good theories - he had come up with them himself! He was certain that if he could just get noticed, they'd be able to sort out these Venture assassins in no time at all and get back to the dreadfully dull business of guarding when nobody was actually out there. He liked that - it didn't matter if he got noticed or not on those nights. Which brought him to his real dilemma. He was pretty sure that burning Zinc could get him noticed. He'd never tried it before, not since he was told that being able to do so made him "half-skaa." Apparently this was a bad thing? He never did get quite clear on that. Anyways, he was reasonably sure that if he burned Zinc, terrifying men with spiked for eyes would come and take him away to the dungeons of the Lord Ruler and there do terrible things to him. He was pretty sure that he wanted to avoid that sort of notice. On the other hand, he could also start shouting and yelling. That would be much less likely to get spike-eyed terrors involved, but similarly less likely to actually attract attention. He decided to shout - spike-eyed terrors were just too much for him at the moment. One group trying to kill you at a time, was what he always said. "Hey, everyone! I think I know who the assassins are!" Nobody in the hallway turned around. Nobody in the bunkroom poked their head out the door. Failure. Again. "Why does nobody notice me!" He yelled to the uncaring ceiling. Just then, he felt a sharp pain in the small of his back. A low voice whispered in his ear. "Some of us noticed you." He fell over, bleeding. As he lay there, he watched two of his fellow guards walk past, dragging a struggling Barry Allen between them. He heard them talking as they passed. "Did you hear something? I thought it sounded like somebody was shouting in here." His companion snorted. "I think you're hearing things." "No, seriously. It sounded like that bug guy. What was his name again? Built like a mountain." "Have you been drinking again? If we had any mountains on our guard crew, I'm sure I'd have noticed. Now come on. Let's get this fella to the brig. Captain's orders." As his vision faded, Valbar shook his head to himself. Typical. Even bleeding out in the middle of the hallway, he just couldn't get noticed. Maybe he should have tried the Zinc. ------------------------------------------------------- Day 3 has begun! It will end at 10:30 PM, Mountain Daylight Time, June 7th. Valbar (TheMightyLopen) was killed! They were a Village Rioter! Barry Allen (The Flash) was detained! 13. Ecth, no, you were right. But since Alvron posted that, Crimsn died with generosity, proving that it was where both brightness and I said it was, and verifying the chain of passes.
  14. On the guessing matter, I was thinking that I had been rather obvious about being the previous holder, but fair enough.
  15. Frankly, Jedal is a fine lynch target, but not a pressing one. I'm fine going after Ecth. Here's the thing. We can be reasonably sure that Alvron is village (claimed original holder of generosity - probably a good target for an honesty scan just to make sure, because he could have guessed). Same with Brightness and I (generosity pass). Due to some mixups with when we claimed in-thread, it's not airtight, unfortunately, but it's close. Alvron says he passed Generosity to me. I had it, and I passed it to Brightness. Brightness had it and said she was passing it to Crimsn. Crimsn had it and was Elim!killed (that's GM-confirmed). There's not really a place in there for shenanigans.
  16. So, no conversation? This thread is almost dead. There are 12 players ponies left alive. And there are at least 2 changelings left. (I wouldn't bet on 3, but it's possible). There are 3 elements of harmony left until team evil gets the sudden death condition. We need lynches more than anything else. Ties will no longer get rid of Generosity, but they still delay our finding the changelings. We could have as few as 4 cycles left, if things go wrong. (Less if we lynch an element on our own). We need discussion, folks.
