  1. Will this be of interest to former MTG players, or only current ones?
  2. "All right children, now repeat after me. "My life to yours, my breath become yours.""
  3. Most of the behavioral calls we take are 72 hour holds for suicidal thoughts, but I've taken a few. I think you've pretty well nailed it, and brought up a few interesting points as well. And I think we can even go as far to say that withdrawal from Stormlight in the case of a surgebinding savant could be fatal. Left Ventricular Hypertrophy, which is the enlarging of the left side of the heart, the chamber that pumps blood to the rest of the body, is a condition where it grows too large to function, and stretches its elasticity out. I think that with constant stormlight, as you said, it would maintain that and have no issue, but as soon as you stop using, the symptoms would start. You're probably a much better source for behavioral sides of things, but I think the physical damage that would begin would lead to life threatening conditions, that would have a high mortality rate within a year of being cut off. Left ventricular hypertrophy is usually a precursor to Congestive Heart Failure, and I don't think that medicine has evolved enough on Roshar to deal with that sort of cardiac condition.
  4. Riot their curiosity and give them Brandon Sanderson. Now you've got them under control for weeks!
  5. Soothe their boredom when watching your tv shows. Riot it when watching theirs. Goodbye Barney hello Doctor Who.
  6. New thought, Thom killed the king. Really hoping this one is true.
  7. At first I was indifferent to Verin, but once I found out from Moiraine that she went on her own, I'm very suspicious. She got into their group way too easily, and then immediately went to Rand and started meddling. I don't know what her motives are, but I don't trust her at this point. ...I'm just getting started with the series. This is a forum dedicated to discussing the entire Wheel of Time. I understood that when I came in to do these posts, so I don't look at any threads except for these two. Actually, I did check another one that was someone who had just gotten started, and saw a few spoilers there, but I understood that's what can happen when you go into a forum dedicated to discussing those things. I understand where you're coming from, but it's a book that was published before I was born, if someone sees the title who hasn't read the book and comes into the post anyways, they should not be surprised to see spoilers, and they definitely have no justification to be upset, just like I can't be if someone comments in my posts with a spoiler. If I, or anyone else doesn't want to see spoilers on a book that has been out for 24 years, I/they really shouldn't be on this forum searching around. I don't even look at the titles of other threads, because I know they can be spoilers, but by coming in here, I assume responsibility for them, not the other way around.
  8. What do you call a female ent in shardplate? A Knight Lady-ent
  9. I just finished up the great hunt. Again, Jordan ruined one of my predictions that I caught early on-Lanfear. I knew there was something up with her as soon as they found her in the portal stone world. It wasn't until after the fireworks scene that I figured out she was Lanfear though, between Egwene's dreams, and the prophecy. I was really disappointed that he didn't reveal Mordeth more subtlety. Right from the start having him refer to himself as Mordeth actually insulted me a little as a reader. By the time I had gotten to the Fade's death, I was wishing that it was more of a mystery, especially with all the hints that they played. I figured out that he was a Fain/Mordeth amalgamation when they revealed why the group couldn't decide on direction. I also suspected that Matt would be the one to sound the Horn, but I didn't expect it this book. Everyone else was focused on the Horn, but Matt only cared about the dagger, or his salvation. I did suspect Ingtar, but only immediately before it was confirmed. He wanted the Horn way too badly. I think it was right before they went into Falme that I fingered him. I think I'm starting to understand what you mean by Ta'veren not being able to be controlled and whatnot. I saw Thom's lover's death as the Wheel pushing him back into things because of his interactions with Rand. Also...way disappointed with how that went. During the fireworks scene, I kept expecting Thom to be the one to save the day. I'm hoping my faith in him will be justified in future books. Rand continues to frustrate me. I much prefer Perrin, but he's just as frustrating, as he didn't really do anything this book. I don't know what it is about Rand, but I just don't find myself as attached to him. Liandrin was pretty obvious, even before he stunt at Fal Dara, but I don't think the Reds are all corrupt, in fact, I would have to estimate that the Black Ajah are very few in numbers, and maybe even Liandrin being the only Red who is black, but I'm not as sure on that. Liandrin will be Nynaeve's to deal with eventually, the way I see it playing out. The damane....oh god the damane...I was just short of being physically pained by reading that, it disturbed me so much. Although the experience certainly heightened my opinion of Egwene. She's a trooper. Best line in the book: "Stay and get married, or travel the Ways." Loial grimaced ruefully. "Life is very unsettling with ta'veren for friends." I still am in the camp that Matt won't be separated from the dagger, especially with the revelations of 'MorFain.' He's the only one who can stop it from spreading the rot, and they definitely can't let it fall into MorFain's hands, lest it become some sort of superweapon (more than it already is.) Captain Doman be a great character, I no wish harm to him. Min is not what I expected from the little she was in last book, but I still like her a lot, I just pegged her wrong as far as temperament. I think the Amyrlin seat will fall, and then become a martyr, despite scrubbing floors, while Moiraine escapes regretfully. Moiraine will die. I had that thought before he conversation with Lan. All in all, I actually enjoyed the majority of The Eye of the World better than the majority of the Great Hunt, but the ending was killer. I thought halfway through the book that the ending would be unfulfilling with a very Fellowship of the Ring cliffhanger, and I was very pleased to be proven wrong. So the better ending goes to the Great Hunt. If I think of anything I missed, I'll post some more.
  10. For WoR, I very much enjoyed the "Was Heleran a Surgebinder?" thread. While it didn't necessarily start off with a theory, the discussion in there is great, and I feel that Helaran is one of the bigger mysteries in WoR.
  11. Unfortunately, my understanding of the immune system isn't as vast as some of the other body systems, but I think I can shed some light on this. The soulcasting of Shallan's blood should not have a drastic effect on the immune system. When someone is healthy, they normally don't have a lot of white blood cells, or leukocytes in the blood stream. One of the ways to test for infection is to do a white blood cell count, and if it's elevated, it's because the body is involved in fighting the infection, and so more leukocytes have been made to combat the infection. When the body isn't involved in fighting infection, the leukocytes are stored outside of the blood, in the bone marrow, spleen, and thymus. The majority of immune system works through the lymphatic system, which has its own channels for transportation apart from the cardiovascular system, and is separate from the red blood cells, which would be the ones Jasnah is soulcasting. The poison would be carried in the plasma of the blood. So here, we see that the soulcasting isn't necessarily even affecting the immune system, as I'd assume white blood cells would be replaced during the soulcasting. As far as immunity goes, the memory cells that recall past illnesses are completely seperate from the blood. This passage describes it as well as I can Shallan should have all her immunities in tact!
  12. what do you call a fight between coinshots?

      Jo and the Bush

      You sir, get an Upvote.

  13. I hadn't thought about the quote that way, but I think you might be off a bit. The previous chapter has a quote that's from the same section according to the citation. The quote you listed is on the same page as this one, and I had been interpreting it as the skybreakers had an aptitude for determining guilt. Also, ancient fabrials are theorized to be very different than modern ones.
  14. I was referring to intelligence unbound, not the "we don't use our brain" drivel, but I wouldn't chalk that up to your misunderstanding, its more my bad cliche phrasing that did it. I was thinking more along the lines of a savant in probability prediction. There's one thing I don't understand though. If he was so intelligent at the time, why didn't he think to ask for paper???? All the knowledge in the world isn't useful if it's illegibly scrawled on a bedside table, or forgotten underneath a floorboard nobody but Super Mr. T knew was loose. Maybe he also foresaw his success, and knew that the room where the diagram was created would become a great tourist attraction. 1. Definitely valid point, but that's why they continue to tweek the diagram on his better days. 2. I disagree another goal would be better, they're facing flat out extinction. Aim for the safe bet. but that's just my opinion. 3. I think we can assume from Dalinar's visions "unite them," that a universal leader will be accepted. As far as setting himself up as the ruler, the atrrition tactics he's using are only affecting other forces, not his own. I think it's the most perfect strategy I've ever read to usurp a throne. 4. I strongly feel that this is more probability based than precognition, otherwise he wouldn't need to account for different outcomes. This puts him on a different playing field than Odium and Cultivation. 5. We believe Odium was observing Szeth (stormcloud coming for them when Szeth attempts to kill Dalinar the first time.) But that could be a spren similar to the stormfather, or if it is Odium, he could've been drawn by Szeth's skill and hate, looking for possible champions. 6. Can we attribute this to the diagram, or is it an imperfect interpretation of the Diagram? I think the biggest problem with the diagram is that it requires so much interpretation. They offset this by allowing members to work independently and attack problems from several angles. Edit: I got ninja'd, then wanted to reply to the post.
  15. Morning star added. I also agree that we'll need 20-25 Phantoms at the last. I was thinking the Thunderclast was smaller, but with arms at 15 feet, we're looking at a 25 foot abomination at least, and that can put a lot of hurt out IMO.
  16. Only if we want to incur the wrath of the now dormant fatal memory error!
  17. Wow! The arm is 15 feet long! THE ARM! We're going to need more phantoms... I'd say since they are using hammers against it, and not just leaving it to the Knight, that bashing it repeatedly should work...eventually. I'd say that works in favor for the Phantoms as well though. The things clawed arms are not going to be as effective, but the Phantoms are going to be well prepared for the match up.
  18. I very much tend to agree with all of what you said, especially this: King T became transcendent for a day, tapping into the entire potential of the human brain. IMO, it's all about probabilities, and that's shown in the diagram, and why they allow so many members to operate independently. That goes more along the lines with your AI metaphor. He doesn't just predict one outcome, he predicts several plausible outcomes, and has other plans in case those fall apart. I trust Super Mr. T, and I pity the fool that doesn't believe in the diagram.
  19. Sadeas discovered a type of Voidbinding, which allows him to change size. He was trying to spy on Adolin and Shallan when Adolin caught him in the hallway. Sadeas used his stormlight, but because he wasn't used to his powers, he grew tiny instead. A guest of wind caught him as he shrunk and blew him out the window right as he summoned Oathbringer. They both immediately plummeted down into the flowerpot, and Sadeas was instantly crushed to death by the of weight Oathbringer.
  20. Don't sell yourself short. Without you, there wouldn't be a story arch whatsoever! Just random violence. Albeit satisfying fantasy random violence. Definitely some of the same Phantoms. I was also going to bring up that their skill as lifeless is linked to their skill as people, I would think that holds through to the bones, and we can assume that during that particular war, Vasher would have had access to a lot of skilled corpses. So how much of an advantage will this give the phantoms, since we don't know how intelligent the Thunderclast is?
  21. I'll start editing the main post with some of these! Also, the ideas are great, and I promise what I'm not using here is already forming into some awesomeness in the future! The Kholinar riots would be a great setting for a fight.
  22. Oh yeah...Geography...*cracks open book as well* There's a loose (and slightly flexible due to travel times being largely ignored) chronology I've put to this, I've got a few plans for future about that very sort of thing in Kholinar. We aren't quite ready to head to the Shattered plains yet, so I think the Horneater mounts will do! But I agree with ccstat, he isn't going to travel to those travelling pools quite yet because of [redacted]. We'll head to Herdaz after that, Then we can swing by Kholinar in time for the riots, and make it to the Shattered Plains in the nick of time. Give Roshone a nice loose travel schedule that we'll adjust as need be. I'm glad you noticed This battle isn't important to the storyline, so Roshone will inherit the loser, just because I like to abuse him. Just because he's the protagonist doesn't mean he's the hero, or should win! So far we've got a range of 12-15 Phantoms And other assorted blunt objects: You obviously read my other thread and saw my obsession with chain weapons! So at least one Phantom armed with a meteor hammer! Yes!!!!
