Fourth oath of the windrunners (spoilers)
Patrick Star replied to Josiah Bills's topic in Stormlight Archive
A corpse that is 16 months old, or the corpse of a 16 month old? Or both? -

Yeah, you would be shooting normal (albeit heavily reinforced) bolts. I'd imagine that a sprenbow could shoot arrows with more speed, stopping power, range, and accuracy than a normal bow.
-
How about a shard crossbow? Maybe one with an automated magazine-fed loading mechanism? I'm sure a radiant could do that. It's already been done before, after all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow

Yeah, that's what happened during the duel. He broke his legs kicking a shardbearer, and they instantly healed. He was probably uncomfortable in the chasms because he just killed Syl. That would make me uncomfortable any day.
-
Yeah, that's probably the most likely explanation. I had thought of shardplate more of a powered exoskeleton. If that was the case, Eshonai would be able to walk with the leg wound because her leg isn't actually doing anything, and the shardplate's doing all the work. This would be a really good question to ask Brandon about.

Soulcasting is different than other surges. You don't actually need to invest anything, you transport the stormlight directly from the gem to the object you're soulcasting. As for why the gems glow brighter, that could be a function of the stormlight being transferred. Or maybe concentrated.

It's not the force from the hit that I'm talking about. It's the sudden change of direction. Completely different things.

I'm not saying that the plate is feeble. It cushions the external blows fine. The hammer is a non-issue. What I'm saying is that such a concussion would not be caused by the force of hitting the ground. It would occur because some parts of the shardbearer (like the skull) would be stopped by the shardplate. However, other parts (such as the brain) would keep moving, as they are not being directly acted on. The brain hitting the skull (since the skull was stopped, but the brain wasn't) would cause the concussion. It has nothing to do with how strong the shardplate is. In order for shardplate to work, it would definitely need some sort of internal force field to act as a damper. Again, it is in no way an issue with how strong the shardplate is. I think the video I posted explains the problem fairly well.

What I'm saying is that absorbing the force of the ground isn't enough to stop a concussion. It's not the force that would cause the concussion, it's that the shardplate exerts a force on the wearer's skull, but not on the brain. Because of this, the brain sloshes around inside the skull, causing the concussion. For shardplate to protect against the fall, it would have to exert a force directly on the wearer's brain and other internal organs to prevent injury. Here's what I'm talking about, only with Tony Stark inside the Iron Man suit:

Okay, so there's a big characteristic about Shardplate that's REALLY been bugging me recently. Or more specifically, some of the stuff that shardbearers do. When Renarin first gets his shardplate, Zahel (Vasher) tells him to jump off the roof of the training yard and land on his head, in order to get Renarin to build trust in the shardplate. However, even though the shardplate wouldn't be affected (much, at least) by such a fall, Renarin should be. Hitting the ground and suddenly coming to a stop should have given Renarin a major concussion, and possibly killed him. Now, I know that Renarin was already a truthwatcher, so he may have stolen some stormlight from the suit's gems. However, Zahel indicated that this type of training is fairly par for the course, meaning that another non-radiant shardbearer has done the same routine. So, what's the deal with shardplate? Does it have inertial dampener fabrials, or something?

I'm definitely able to forgive Kal if he finally moves on in Stormlight 3. The whole point of book 2 was that he killed Syl without realizing that he was killing her. By now, though, he should know better. I'm reserving judgement for Szeth until Stormlight 3. But I'm still pretty pissed at Dalinar for his awful handling of the Kaladin-Amaram situation. I can forgive him, but ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS TELL KALADIN THAT HE BELIEVED HIM. After all, he did at the point where he spoke to Kaladin in the prison. That's it.

Elhokar. Kaladin fights off the Assassin in White (by tackling him out of a window 200 feet up, no less) and suffers no injuries. He then literally SENDS A FULL SHARDBEARER RUNNING OUT OF THE ARENA and likely saves his cousin's life. But then Elhokar gets pissy when Kal accuses Amaram and sentences Kal to death. Yeah, I'm not forgiving that. Edit: This is basically what Kaladin did in the Arena. There's no way anyone could forget it.

My thoughts exactly. However, it's useless to read too much into this right now. Maybe Nalan will spill the beans in Book 3.
-
Then you should get started on your first mandatory re-reading
-
Yes. Both of them. #2 is actually answered before the end of the book. #1 is answered right at the end.
-
Exactly, you hit the nail on the head. This is why I think that Helaran was working for the skybreakers when he tried to kill Amaram. Killing him on the battlefield is legal (if it's legal under the Geneva Convention, it's probably legal in Alethkar). An assassination is illegal. And going after a full shardbearer was too risky.
-
That's the big thing with Kaladin. He's been pardoned. Plus, Nalan's too busy with the Stone Shamans now. He can't continue to prevent desolation when there's one that's actually happening.
-
Oh no! He also got Joey Crawford! Actually, that's OK. But still, here's the evidence, right on video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WwUXAdvzZ0

[Theory/speculation] 'Main' Characters + Knight's Radiant
Patrick Star replied to JellyFishxD's topic in Stormlight Archive
I believe that Eshonai will be a Willshaper. Remember her love of maps and adventuring? Also, Taln is the patron of the Stonewards. -
Yeah, it's heavily implied that Venli took stormform earlier. Simply put, Venli lied to Eshonai to get her to take stormform.
-
His reach extends beyond Roshar. For example, he took out Jameis Winston during the Rose Bowl! This was a scary takedown. He moved so quickly that only people with an intimate knowledge of classical mechanics would have suspected foul play. As you can see, he also got the referee during his escape. Take a look at how brutally he murdered the poor QB!

Facepalm-worthy Moments during Readings
Patrick Star replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's definitely Kaladin in the back. He's holding a spear and has the Parshendi bone shield slung on his back. Plus, he's not wearing shardplate. Zoom in, and you'll see what I mean. Not Eshonai.
