Random Stuff VII: The Admins Awaken
Kobold King replied to Young Bard's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
No, there's something very clearly dhole-ish about them. They're definitely part dhole. -
Yes, but is it not true that Brandon Sanderson is a divinity that operates on a higher plane of morality than us lowly mortals? Can we seek permission from his actions, as we are but ants compared to his sublime, even supernal glory? (For the record, I see no reason why anyone shouldn't do this. )

Felt a pang at that. Sorry, guys. I'll try to get something written soon. Not that you haven't heard that one before...

Congrats! -
I don't like that she's an alicorn. But at least she's an adorable alicorn, and if I'd be lying if I claimed that my magical headcanons matter more to me than cuteness when it comes to a show about pretty pastel ponies. I do like that the trailer seems to imply that the birth of an alicorn foal is an unusual event in-universe as well as out. Maybe we'll even get an appeasing explanation for the phenomenon.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO KOBOLD KING!??

To be fair we do have Taylor Swift as a superpowered antagonist. -
On Paragraph 2: once heat vision develops, the fishies will be forced to evolve in one of two different ways to evade predation. 1, they could simply evolve speed and heat senses of their own to simply detect and swim away from predators. For a carnivore, being able to sense prey is only the smallest and easiest part of the battle. There's no reason the fishies would be driven wholly to extinction by the evolution of predators. If anything, the competition between predator and prey would only cause a mass diversification of forms in the fishies. There'd be way more species of them. 2, fishies could evolve some sort of outer layer that insulates their internal bodies and prevents heat from radiating out into the water. The less heat radiates away from them, the closer to invisible they will be to predators. So don't worry. The Europite fishies will be more than capable of surviving the evolution of predators. From a biodiversity standpoint they will actually prosper.

I like the Europites a lot. Personally I doubt that that licking minerals off of the bottom of icebergs would make up a hearty foundation for an ecosystem. Physical materials alone are not enough to power an ecosystem. You need a source of energy; a foundation of photosynthetic organisms would be the best way of harvesting energy to fuel the ecology, but hydrothermal vents would also work. I hesitate to bring this up, however, since I'm unsure whether you were implying that the Europite ecosystem is predicated on mineral deposits or merely that the creatures supplement their diets on the stuff. The latter of which would be quite feasible and is in fact quite an ingenious quirk of the planet. I love the idea of heat vision being the dominant form of sensory input among these species; I'd caution though that a mere millennium is absolutely nothing in the scale of evolution, however, and a complex adaptation like heat vision would take many millions of years to be properly established. I think the Europites as a concept would be strengthened if thermal vision were already part of their ecology, allowing for complex predator/prey dynamics and some neat Darwinian stuff. (Maybe even a fish that produces a particularly hot organ inside of itself like a bombardier beetle, solely for the purpose of attracting mates.) Like I said, I'm really fond of these guys and think they have a lot of potential. Just bringing up the couple of bits that I feel might need to be expanded on, is all. I'd be particularly interested in learning about different phyla of Europite life; are there invertebrates that coexist with the fish, for instance? If so, how do they interact? Is there any life that ever comes up all the way to the surface of the ice? What about life that goes all the way to the bottom of the ocean?

Well. That sounds like an... interesting franchise. It does sound like a cool fanfic. Would you mainly be using canon characters or your own OCs?

Batman villain logic: "They called me crazy... said my experiments on the psychological effects of fear were out of line, unscientific, and immoral! But I'll show them how wrong they were. And I'll show them by dressing as a scarecrow and poisoning the city water supply with my nightmare toxin! That'll teach 'em who has the moral high ground!" -

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO KOBOLD KING!??
Kobold King replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in General Discussion
Mother, I'm trying to cultivate the perception of there being some vague but fascinating mystery surrounding my absence. Don't make this hard for me! For the rest of you: Cryptic remark that vaguely hints at explaining my inactivity without laying down any concrete details and ultimately only enhances the enigma around it. Will think of one later. Probably.- 121 replies

Well, I found this. On a scale of one to ten, how bad is it that I want to write a parody called "How corrupted!Funtimes Won the War"?

I usually don't consider extra-literary sources canon unless I like the ideas they present better than my own headcanons. (Brandon Sanderson being the only major exception.) -

This is far too reasonable for the madness that is is love. I say we go with the Lopen Maneuver.
