Only vaguely related: I watched Mulan for the first time last night, and suddenly I can't stop thinking that Altermind's training regime involves him standing shirtless in Thoughttown singing "Make a Man Out of You."

RE: The Dalles. It's the first time somebody's hugged Backtrack in the entire RP, and he's too busy being terrified out of his wits to enjoy it. I don't really know much to say about his reaction other than "He squeaked in alarm and tried to make himself look smaller."

Just a quick note, the Portland thread is no longer accepting High Epics as characters. The Dalles is better for new players. Doctor Funtimes is one of the central characters of the game. Known for whimsical hijinks and glitter.

Adventures in Edassa Information Thread (RP Ongoing!)

I'm surprised someone didn't do it before me. And you're on the clock for a Samuel Carthen pony, by the way. Murk would definitely have agreed to this deal. There'd be nothing worse than to be stuck in a crocodile body with crocodile feeding urges while disallowed from hunting. Seonid, how exactly does familiar magic work? Who is responsible for the conscious manipulation of energy--the sorcerer or the familiar?- 314 replies

Not exactly Lightwards' train of thought goes "I am awesome because I am saving humanity." Murk the familiar's train of thought goes "I am awesome because I am a crocodile."

Cool! Welcome to Portland, Winter. I officially made my first post in the Edassa RP today. I play Voidus' familiar spirit, an enormous intelligent crocodile. I write her much like I write Wes the Raptor, if Wes were a sociopath and a mild megalomaniac.

"You are not a crocodile. You are a tall piece of meat. I am a crocodile." I'm sure you won't. And if you want your character to have a pony or something as a familiar spirit, just give me a call. EDIT: Is it improprietous to ponify a crocodile? I hope not.- 314 replies

All right, first Murk post is up! It's short, but hopefully conveys a bit about who she is and what she spends her days thinking about. So far she's not much of a complex character; most of her thoughts can be summed up as "I am a crocodile and I am awesome." Anyway, feel free to criticize the post. Seonid, let me know if anything is inconsistent with your model of familiar spirits.- 314 replies

Adventures in Edassa: Summer, 1375 S.E - City of Menkor
Kobold King replied to Seonid's topic in Inactive RPs
The sun was warm. The mud was cool. Her belly was full. The air teemed with the smells of blood and Tall-Meat flesh. It was a good day to be a crocodile. Murk sunk into the riverbank, savoring the moist mud sticking to her scales. The river flowed in front of her, its billowing grey waters occasionally broken by a small fish or resilient turtle. Behind her sat the city of Menkor, roaring with the distant cries of fighting Tall-Meats. Murk didn't much mind the sound. Even in her first life as a crocodile she hadn't feared the silly creatures, and she was now well beyond their capacity to harm her. She was a spirit of the hunt made flesh; Death itself given an armored hide and a snout full of fangs. She was above all else a crocodile, by far the greatest type of animal. Murk felt herself as being in a fine position to judge, having lived as everything from a mosquito to a mountain lion. Broken to bits on the riverbank was her newest claim to glory. Shards and splinters of a sailing river-boat littered the mud, attesting to her might as a huntress. Samuel was usually quite restrictive about when and where she was allowed to devour his fellow Tall-Meats, but she was confident he would not mind her taking the liberty this time. He had spoken passionately of the "heathens" in Menkor, speaking of them with bile and hatred. He often seemed to relish striking them down, and while he'd adamantly refused to devour them, Murk often felt she could see something of herself behind the Tall-Meat's dim-witted eyes. Though he didn't know it, Samuel would have made an excellent crocodile himself in another life. As if in response to her thoughts, the muscular Tall-Meat came trotting beside the riverbank. Samuel was walking at a brisk pace, hand absently tapping a blood-flecked blade by his side. Murk made no outward sign of noticing him, save for half-heartedly splashing her tail in the mud. After all, Samuel knew she was always keeping an eye out for him. They were partners, crocodile and not-crocodile hunting side by side. Whatever task assigned to him by those ghastly superiors of his would no doubt require her magic. And--if today were an exceptionally good day to be a crocodile--her jaws. So she lifted a head out of the mud and stared up into her sorcerer's eyes. Her mind connected with his, manifesting as a feminine yet slightly gravelly voice among his thoughts. "Hello Tall-Not-Meat," she said languidly. "Have you hunted your share of heathens today?"- 31 replies

That's Backtrack for you. Any sufficiently advanced magic or technology will make him squeal in alarm. That's... mortifying in more ways than I could count. Does he rule his own Epic fiefdom, or does he serve a somehow even more powerful Epic? Fun fact: Backtrack once visited Mesopotamia, using his power to see what happened in the Garden of Eden. He fled the country upon discovering that the Serpent that tempted Adam and Eve was Nighthound in a snakeskin loincloth.

I think Murk could work as either species, but I think I'll classify her as the extinct saltwater species. Maybe that's part of the reason for her choosing to become a familiar--she knew she wouldn't have another chance to be reborn as her favorite species, so she chose a spiritual situation that would allow her the form again. Regardless, I'm ready to join now. The Murk Lurker is ready for duty. Fen? Ooh, that's a nice name. I guess I got mixed up a bit. I'll go back through this thread and the other and try to get a better idea of what's going on. I like this idea! Welcome to the RP, Quiver. If this is anything like the Reckoners RPG--and it looks very similar to the Reckoners RPG--then I imagine it'll also have a very fanfiction-y style to it. See you all in Edassa!- 314 replies

Funtimes and Flashpoint share a romantic duet next, right? Because I choose to believe they share a romantic duet next. Unusually short and lousy Dalles post up. Now other people can respond to the panda menace, and I can go to bed. Quick question though--are Jordan and Bill fully NPCs, or are you the only one writing for them?

I was wrong, Backtrack thought dimly. Koschei isn't the ruler of The Dalles. He was cowering in a corner, right beside a large chart showing different cuts of a pig's body. Irony is. Squirrels continued banging on the windows, raging against the glass in a way that made Backtrack think of old zombie movies. The difference being that no one felt ridiculous when fleeing from zombies, because zombies were actually scary. Autumn Glass, fortunately, had taken control of the situation. Backtrack didn't feel inclined to argue--even if she wasn't flanked by armed soldiers, he'd still be following meekly at her heels. Zombie squirrels weren't something a man could just handle on his own. "Glass to Arsenal," the woman spoke through the crackling radio. "In Bentley Avenue butcher shop with three unregistered Epics. Two have momentum-based powers demonstrably capable of bringing down the pigs." She winced for a moment, though it was unclear why. "Sir, what do you advise? Remain in shop until danger has passed, or send momentum Epics to assist?" Backtrack reflexively shot a glance at the twins, who were standing bemusedly out a window. They were still holding hands, which he would have found cute at any other time. Right now though, he could barely keep the terror out of his voice. "Um, Glass?" he yelped anxiously. "You're not... you're not sending them away, are you?" A bead of sweat formed on his forehead, joining a congregation of its bretheren holding some kind of sermon on his brow. "I mean... it could be dangerous for them, who knows what else is out there..." OK, so he wasn't really concerned with the twins. He'd seen the way they'd de-airborned the flying pig earlier; there was no doubt they could handle themselves. What he was really concerned about was how well-defended the butcher shop would be without the momentum-controlling goddesses on hand. Before Autumn could respond, a curse blasted through the radio. "Damnation Glass, you're supposed to restrict them from using abilities! We're lucky your negligence--" The radio crackled, though whether it was from typical static or the high-pitched squeal of something dying was impossible to tell. "Calamity, Glass. We'll be talking about this later. Send them out!" the voice commanded. Backtrack's heart sank. Well, sparks.

Lucentia stomped her foot petulantly. "I wanted to sing 'Be Prepared'!" Her partner rolled his eyes. "Lucentia, that song was written for a male singer. If anyone gets to perform it, it will be me." The diamond queen's gaze was murderous. "That's sexist." "Sex has nothing to do with it. The cold, hard reality is all that matters here," Lightwards replied coolly. She snorted. "Reality? You're neither an animated lion nor Jeremy Irons. My claim's as good as yours." I think it'd be harder getting those two to sing than you think.

Kobold King replied to Seonid's topic in Inactive RPs
Murk Lurker will have at best an apathetic view of human life--being a spirit with knowledge of the afterlife, she doesn't see human fatalities as a particularly serious issue. Having died a thousand times herself, she sees it as only a temporary inconvenience in the life cycle of a soul. So she wouldn't be much of a moral leash to Samuel Carthen. I imagine she'll spend much of her time lounging on riverbanks until Samuel needs her. She'll be less active and definitely not as meekly subservient as Muni the wolf. EDIT: Seonid, how much awareness of past lives do familiar spirits possess? And are they all limited to an animal-like intellect, like Muni the wolf?- 314 replies
