Mid-range Game 11: Paradise Lost
twelfthrootoftwo replied to twelfthrootoftwo's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You're right that it's not in the spirit of the rules, and I'm going to rule this out. The potential to edit spoilers means players essentially have to read the same content twice, and that's going to make the game unwieldy and frustrating to play. RP is a little different, because RPers spend their time producing something that everyone can read and enjoy. The mechanic is geared towards people contributing to the game however they want. There are a couple of tricks which Eol and I discussed, and decided to allow. Unlike this plan, though, they prevent anyone ever trying to guess your code, meaning they completely rule out gaining Aviar through wrong guesses and make you a more attractive target for the other team. Roleblocks (in order: Hidden, Beautiful, Mind Force) Messenger Voting Vote Change Mind Shield Power Sense Death Sight Kills (simultaneous: Trader, Patji, lynch) Observant Aviar movement- 493 replies

Mid-range Game 11: Paradise Lost
twelfthrootoftwo replied to twelfthrootoftwo's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hidden by the darkness of the early morning, a single iron-hulled boat steadily made its way into one of the more sheltered beaches of Amaji. The island, known as the Mother to those who still kept the old ways, was a three week voyage from the Eelakin Isles. Fourth of the Rain had made a similar journey many times in his life, but never before had it felt this long. Out of habit, he pulled some parchment out of his trouser pocket and, for the hundredth time in the last few weeks, stared blankly at the seal of the Northern Interests Trading Company. The parchment symbolised a great many things. The betrayal of his family, traditions of his people and his faith. The loss of his livelihood and Aviar. But what could not be overlooked was that it meant a way to survive in a changing world. Rain had chosen Patji, the Father, when he was of age and skill to leave Sori and make his living as a trapper. Whilst there he had witnessed the expansion of the trading company and their strengthening foothold in the Pantheon. As the greed of the traders grew, fortifications were moved further and further into the dense forest of the Father and local trappers who found themselves in the way of progress were shown neither kindness or mercy. Safe houses, if found, would be destroyed. Aviar were seized, and killed if they proved too loyal. The trappers themselves were given the option of employment within the company, or safe passage to leave the island – and with their shielding aviar taken, it was little wonder that very few saw fit to brave the sea’s depths unprotected. Placing the parchment safe back in his pocket, Rain turned his gaze to the other members of their party. Some were former trappers of Patji like himself; others, experienced scouts from the trading company, who had been around long enough to spot a deathant pod or avoid cutaway vines. All were capable of living isolated on the islands. The forests of the many islands in the Pantheon were deadly to the unknowledgeable or unwary, and even the most skilled trappers would find a swift death with one misstep. Even knowing this, Rain could not drag his mind away from the task they had been set, and mourned with the knowledge that the Mother would be soaked with faithful blood before the week was out. As iron hull met the soft sand of the Mother’s shore, Rain paused briefly, half-heartedly asking for the Father’s forgiveness in this blasphemy, before promptly leaping the boats rail and made haste towards the safety of the tree line. Around him the others were doing the same. None wanted to be on ground level longer than absolutely necessary for fear of predators hunting by night. Against his better judgment, Rain turned at the edge of the tree line and watched as his one way off the island gradually faded back into the shadows. There would be no leaving this place until his job was done. ----- Third of the Dawn crouched by the corpse. Only chunks of flesh remained, and there were scores - tooth marks - on the exposed bone. Tuskrun, probably; the marks were smaller than she assumed a nightmaw would make, and they didn't come out during the day anyway. The notebook Dawn held named the trapper as Second of the Sun. Tuskrun were not too difficult to avoid, suggesting the corpse was inexperienced; a reminder of the island's dangers. The notebook said otherwise. Sun had been trapping Amaji for several decades; he would not have made such a mistake. That meant she was late. Dawn had heard the silence of the jungle abruptly disturbed by voices. The sound had startled Jay, sending him fluttering off her shoulder - his wings were clipped, thankfully, else she could well have lost him. After collecting her Aviar, Dawn had hidden - a wise decision, as it turned out, because the brush in the direction of the voices had come alive shortly after. Sun may have encountered a young trapper - one who did not respect the jungle's silence, and called out at their meeting - and then been brought down when the sound drew predators. Dawn doubted that. Even young trappers seemed to avoid speaking. No; more likely the traders had arrived, and had begun their work. Dawn stood slowly, leaning against her staff rather than placing a hand on the ground. She regarded the corpse for another moment. "We need to find the other trappers." Jay chirruped in response as she moved away. She didn't know how to hide her trail, as the trappers seemed to do without thought. And for the moment, that served her needs nicely. ------------- And the game begins. PMs are on their way. EDIT: All PMs have been sent. Player list:- 493 replies

Mid-range Game 11: Paradise Lost
twelfthrootoftwo replied to twelfthrootoftwo's topic in Sanderson Elimination
After some discussion, Eol and I have decided to make a change to the lynch. The first person to vote for the lynched player (excluding retracted votes) will receive one of the lynched player's Aviar at random. (The others are lost.) If this would take them over the cap, the second vote will receive it instead. Vote changes from Influential are considered to come from the player whose vote was changed, and come after all unchanged votes.- 493 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
After some thought, I can't quite make sense of Kipper claiming Beggar to Ada on the first night and then killing HS. I also can't see trying a play such as lying to get Meta lynched without a way to disrupt the Snitch scans. For the moment, I'll run with the idea that Kipper's note got Meta's role correct by accident. Kipper. If that's the case, Mark is likely an Eliminator, for explicitly telling Kipper to reveal the note's contents.- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Nope. Let's draw a picture: There is a reveal about Player A (an Eliminator) in thread The reveal seems to indicate Player A is an Eliminator, but could be the result of multiple effects Discussion ensues. Player A heavily defends themselves. Thread decides that knowing Player A's alignment is valuable, whatever the results, and goes for a lynch Player A has no reason to give that they shouldn't die Player A has two options: repeat their old defences, which have been taken into account in the decision to lynch, possibly keeping thread discussion running. Or reveal, end the discussion, and (not so much for Meta and the like, but it still applies for others) defuse the tension that's built up over the cycle and act as a reminder that we're all playing a game for fun. I can think of at least one example of this happening before, in a rather similar situation. (Kynedath, you might be surprised ) Now, there was something strange about the 'reveal' this time, but it was that there was no fun in it, not that it happened at all. Kipper- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
All through the night turn, I was convinced Kipper was evil. Then I went back over the previous day, and started to think he wasn't. Then I got to the bit following Meta's 'reveal', and changed my mind again. Now this? I don't know what to think. But one thing I am fairly certain of is that Phatt's Snitch does exist, due to the argument over side roles in Snitch notes last cycle. Kipper (and Kynedath to a lesser extent): please explain what was strange about Meta's 'reveal'?- 529 replies

Mid-range Game 11: Paradise Lost
twelfthrootoftwo replied to twelfthrootoftwo's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Clarifications Players may start with anywhere from zero to five Aviar. Yes. None of the roleblocks affect Aviar movement. No; you arrive back at your shelter to find them gone. In that case, it would be a random person out of those whose votes were changed. About Codes Codes may be in the form of a phrase or single word. Single words can receive minor modification, eg. plurals, possessives, tense changes. Conversion between noun/verb/adjective etc. forms is not permitted (except where these are identical). For example, if your code is 'world,' then 'worlds', 'world's' and 'Alduin the World Eater' are acceptable uses. 'Worldly' is not. Phrases will be common and reasonably vague, but must be used word-for-word and without interruption. In the case where (part of) your code varies between UK and US English (eg color/colour), using either is fine as long as you're consistent Formatting and text colour (outside of red and green) can be changed as much as you like - this includes white text! Ciphers, first letters of lines, white text masquerading as spaces etc. are not permitted. Examples from Kirrah, with the code 'hold the line'. (This is a harder code than any that will be used this game.) Depending on player numbers and how we go generating codes, we may be able to offer all players a choice of two codes. If so, please indicate which one you prefer before posting. Finally: GMs are human, and you are trying to hide things in your posts. It's by no means required, but if you point out your code uses in your game PM, then we can avoid incorrect reveals/deaths.- 493 replies

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven…” The harsh environment of the Pantheon islands has gained a new threat. After their success on Patji, the Northern Interests Trading Company have been expanding their foothold in the Pantheon. Experience on Patji has taught a few of their number to survive the cruel jungle, allowing them to explore the islands as freely as the trappers do. Now their gaze has landed on the island of Amaji, and a small party has been sent to scout the island and weaken the resident trappers. The Game: 48 hour cycles, with combined Day and Night turns. Players get one vote and one action per cycle. Actions can include the Trader kill, Trapper special abilities, Aviar abilities (two can be used in one cycle) and giving Aviar to others. Factions: Traders - The Eliminator faction. Familiar enough with the Pantheon to pass as trappers, you are also equipped with advanced weaponry. You get one kill per cycle and can communicate in a doc; you win when your numbers are equal to the Trappers’. Trappers - Native to the Eelakin Isles, you've spent most of your lives in the harsh Pantheon jungle - first on Sori, now Amaji. You win by eliminating the Traders. The surviving Trapper with the most types of Aviar at the end of the game wins a bonus victory. Roles: The jungle has lessons to teach, for those able to learn. Aviar: Players can start with more than one Aviar. Players can have a max of 5 Aviar; up to two can be used in the same cycle. A player can give any number of their Aviar to another player, and they can also be stolen (see below). The first player to vote on the lynch target (excluding retracted votes) will receive one of the lynched player's Aviar at random. Aviar are otherwise lost when their owner dies. Caution: The Pantheon jungle is dangerous, and even the most experienced trappers can't afford to lower their guard. Each player receives a word or phrase (their 'code'), unique to them. They must include this word or phrase in a post a minimum of twice a cycle. Any player who does not has not been cautious enough. The first time is a free pass and will incur a warning. The second time, their code will be strongly hinted at in the writeup. The third time, they will die. If player A believes the code of player B is X, they may tell the GM ('Player B's code is X'). If correct, A steals all of B's Aviar (or as many as possible before reaching the cap). If incorrect, B steals one of A's Aviar. This does not count as your action, though only one guess may be made per cycle. Signups will run for 7 days; the game starts at 30th Jan, 10PM AEDT/11AM UTC/4AM MST Quick Links:

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don't think Meta is evil, because if he were then I can't make sense of his claiming Beggar when he could instead claim, say, Bodyguard. The only possibility that doesn't rely on bizarre plays or random chance, IMO, is the one where Kipper received a note but is lying about its contents. That said, we do stand to gain a lot of info from Meta's lynch, so I'll just sit this one out. Kynedath Edit: Ha. An interesting ninja. Meta Cue your results to Mark by voting on Meta, wait half a cycle, reveal. Also, this is from a while ago, but someone brought up that Traitor Ada pulling a WGG by attracting village protection is implausible. Judging from MR10, this is definitely plausible for Ada. Phatt's Snitch note now lining up with Kipper's makes it unlikely, but not impossible.- 529 replies

twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
In which I try to explore all possibilities with the roles we know (I'm 98% sure there's stuff missing here; this situation has become ridiculously complex). There doesn't seem to be any scenario which doesn't rely on unlikely chance or strange decisions. I propose we keep Meta and Kipper alive for the moment. Maybe the Snitch who targeted Meta should reveal to someone they trust so they can tell the thread whether they're blind. If they send notes to a variety of people, we can also confirm that the note wasn't invented. Kynedath has caught my eye; they seem to not be doing much beyond noncommittal defences of others (which are a great tool to hide as an Eliminator).- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
There's a contradiction here. Interesting. Lord GM, I think the thread has some questions: Meta claimed that a Snitch note about a Compulsive Liar could contain a mix of true and false information. Is this true? If yes, is it therefore possible that single pieces of information about a Compulsive Liar (eg a Beggar scan) could be true? Do Snitch notes contain side roles?- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
If I were a traitor, I'd want to hang on to the bodysnatches as much as possible, for use on critical lynches - think MR10, where the lack of reveals after death gave the village a lot of problems. IMO, alignment is much more valuable info than role for the village. Hence why I think forcing as many snatches as possible on lower value targets with known alignment - if the village kill roles hold their fire for a few cycles (please!) - is useful. From this point of view, it's certainly not a cop-based strategy as it's intended to ensure public information from the lynch.- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
twelfthrootoftwo replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I, for one, think having a mental illusionist around is just plain dangerous. Let's get rid of Altermind before he causes too many problems. How do we feel about minimising role uses (day and night) as much as possible for the first cycle? If we do that, then a future Mortician scan on the Traitor kill target is very likely to only show their killer. The Traitors have to choose between letting one of their own be revealed like that or bodysnatching someone whose alignment we effectively know. The main downside is that Snitches are set back a cycle.- 529 replies
