  1. To in-universe scholars, Tin seems to have the opposite effect when used in a fabrial compared to when an allomancer burns it, but I think the effects are actually kind of similar. Whenever I think about it, I always come back to what Spook told Vin about Tin. "It's not what you see with it, it's what you DON'T see." - To paraphrase him. Spikes may stay, the powers granted by those spikes, not so much. From Coppermind's page on aluminium, emphasis mine: Doesn't affect metalminds? You mean apart from being the deciding factor on if someone can use a metalmind or not, and being the only way an unkeyed metalmind can be created? And once again, when used in hemalurgy, it destroy all other powers the spiked one may possess. I see nothing at all saying that other hemalurgic spikes would be immune to this effect. In my last post, I should have used the word powers instead of Investiture. And while you're right in that it doesn't destroy your spirit web, I wonder what effect an aluminium spike would have on someone from Nalthis. Would it steal their Breath?
  2. What with the various references to salt, I can't help but be reminded of this... https://coppermind.net/wiki/Uscri Could this be an easter egg for SP#1?
  3. Oh, I just thought of a bad one. What if book 5 sees the reforging of the Oathpact? Knights of Willing Torture. Edit: Or, maybe we finally find out some about Feverstone Keep - Keep of Watery ???
  4. How is it a big difference? The effects the metals are having is exactly the same. Exactly, meaning that it couldn't be down to Preservation, as this effect happens all over the Cosmere. It has a link to Identity in Feruchemy, which it seems no-one understands. In Hemalurgy it acts just like it does in every other magic system. It prevents the use of power, by removing ANY Investiture the person being spiked has. It removes their ability to access Cosmere magic systems entirely, by the looks of it.
  5. I have to disagree with you on this. Preservation did something to Scadrial's metals, true, however, the "Fabrial Mechanics" lecture Navani gives in RoW (early book epigraphs) shows a definite link between the metals used in fabrials, and the effects they have as being very similar to Allomancy. What we definitely know aluminium does on Roshar is block emanations from soulcasters and fabrials. It's this technology which allows the Fourth Bridge to fly properly. From Coppermind: Aluminum has been confirmed to have strange effects to all magic systems, is magically inert, and will act as an Investiture sink.
  6. Take a look at Coppermind. Aluminium, when burned by a Mistborn, destroys their metal reserves.
  7. Hehe, nice. I took a spell for my cleric in D&D, solely because it was called Word of Radiance
  8. Silver is also referenced in Mistborn as being "that useless metal" - Vin's shackles and the screws in her prison in Hero of Ages. I don't think it'll destroy Investiture though. I think the Inquisitors would have already known about that, instead of having to use Aluminium.
  9. @Illwei Because you're all over the place. On one day, you're saying he's elim, on another he's on your list of "trusted villagers," and then you're straight back to trying to kill him. I'll admit, this might also be a natural extension to you having one of the higher post counts in the game. More posts = more comments to be suspicious of Why not join you to vote for him? Because I don't trust you. You get me to put my vote on Archer, so both you and he end up with a single vote apiece (judging from what has been said during this cycle), and you've got a mislynch all lined up. Edit: So, why did you change your mind about Archer so much?
  10. While I still don't have time to write out a long post explaining all my opinions, I did go back and look through the threads to see if anything stood out, and what I saw made me think I'm right to keep my suspicions on Archer and Illwei. When you're putting up a list of people you believe to be village, why would Illwei include Archer on that list? There is a lot of debate around who between Archer and Ash is elim, and just on Saturday, Illwei said she'd put Ash in a village read over Archer. What changed? Edit 2: And what changed between then and now when she's pushing e!Archer again? Edit: Luna danced around on Bortington's beard, weaving flowers into it, much to his dismay. He had, however, painfully learned not to argue with his spren when she got into this kind of mood. Now she was talking about setting him up with some noble around here, one of the Kholin boys. Hmm... Maybe if he grew a beard, but right now, with that smooth chin, he just didn't look very tempting. Bortington scowled, wondering if Luna had already made "arrangements" with Adolin, since the lad did keep handing Bortington flowers. The same flowers now being woven into his beard.
  11. Who was first and second? So... My immediate read on this is that the elim team is Archer and Illwei. I think my vote will remain on Illwei today. You're not wrong, I was just too busy yesterday. Too many dragons and not enough time! I'll try to get it up today, but I'm also at work, and have a game on tonight so no promises I'm afraid.
  12. I'm just starting up a D&D game, but will come back to this tomorrow, since we've now got an extra day
  13. @Kasimir Aman pretty much nailed it as to why I'm voting for Illwei. As for why not Archer, because while I'm still suspicious of him and will probably vote for him tomorrow, the current interactions around him and Ash are letting me read everyone involved.
  14. Hey guys, sorry I missed the vote. I'm used to the end of the cycle being in the middle of the night for me and I hadn't spotted it ended so early. I'm going mostly off gut here, but I think I'll be voting today for Illwei. Weird drek like seemingly nonsense elim kills? I think this could be an option, depending on balance. There was some talk earlier in the game about how many elims are out there. People in thread were thinking either 3 or 4. Given the relatively low number of players, 3 made sense to most, but if it was 4, then in a short game, then this kind of gambit could make sense. It would immediately put the survivor in a vaguely trusted position, since which elim would push a vote onto one of their allies on D1? Exactly your logic here Kas. In a short game like a QF, that really could pay off. I also think that this is the kind of tactic that e!Archer would get behind. ********************************************************************************************** Bortington the Blind reached out and touched the beard. "Incredible!" He exclaimed. "That's as hard as rock! Perhaps I was wrong about the beard wax from Nalthis. You, Sir, will have to tell me where you get such excellent beard care products. I must visit the place!" While he was waiting for the statue to respond, Luna came flitting up to him on a wisp of beard hair. "Bortington, ummm, I think you're supposed to be voting." She points to where the contestants were gathered. "And I don't think this has anything to do with beards at all. Are you sure we're in the right place?" "What? Nonsense, Luna! Why else would they get this man to stand here where all can admire his beard? But voting, you say? What? On who?" He turned from the statue to see where Luna was pointing, then squinted his eyes as he examined them. "That one!" Bortington said as he pointed towards Albert. "I don't know what he thinks that is on his chin, but it's no beard," he explained, stroking his luxurious white expanse of facial fur. "He should be nowhere near a documentary about the wonders of beards."
  15. I'm just as amazed as you are, lol. I still need to go back and reread D1 to check interactions to see if anything stands out, but right now I'm not too convinced by Archer and Ash.
  16. This is why, and I put my vote in shortly after writing that post. ******************************************************************* Bortington the Blind stood before a painting. Gavilar, former ruler of Alethkar, looked down at him from the wall. He looked regal, with a neatly trimmed beard adding to the effect. "The best beard wax comes from Nalthis," Bortington was explaining to him, seeming happy to carry on a one-sided conversation with what he obviously thought was a real person. Luna, Bort's Beardspren, just sat in her nest in Bort's magnificent beard, alternating between laughing at him, and shaking her head in dismay at how oblivious he was.
  17. I was just thinking Keepers of Wasted Truths.
  18. Morning all. I go to bed, no game on. I wake up to three pages, lol. There's something about Striker's posts I don't like. They feel like some of my early elim posts - trying to defend against everything that's been said. I'm also a bit suspicious of things Archer, Ash, and Mat, specifically have said, although if you want specific examples, you'll have to wait until I go through the thread again when more awake. Given my expert skills at picking elims, it probably means they are all village, lol. ********************************************************* The door pushed open to reveal a short, hunched over figure with a resplendent beard, freshly cleaned and groomed. The end of the beard hovered up, about 2 feet off the ground, and moved of it's own volition, seeming to look around the room. After a moment, the mass of chin wig settled back to the floor, falling away from a tiny glowing figure, feminine in appearance, but with long, luxurious hair that looks like it could have came from the beard itself. "Bort, are you sure this is the place? I'm not seeing a lot of beards around." Luna, the Beardspren asked her bonded bearded one. "What?" Bortington looked a bit taken aback by this, peered around intently at the other contestants. "Nonsense, Luna. I see plenty of beards here," he says pointing to people wearing a variety of necklaces. "I just have the best beard!" "Well, of course you do," Luna replied, proudly. After all, his beard was partially her doing, oaths being what they are and all. He approached the nearest person and started talking about beard care products.
  19. I did, and your answer still made no sense, so I asked again, and got your line about submarines, which, at least as far as I am concerned, had nothing at all to do with the question I was asking. I mean, my question was about what the open mouth had to do with anything if it was down to the soul to determine how stormlight was held by the body. You replied with something about a leaky submarine. I can see the analogy with the body... But not what it has to do with the soul, which is what I was asking about. Tell me Frustration, how many times do you need to be asked before explaining what you mean properly? Edit: In response to your last point, about Radiants expelling stormlight... I know it's not being forcibly expelled at the time, just natural leakage, but don't we see stormlight leaking from the eyes of Radiants at times too? Suggests it might be possible to expel it forcefully elsewhere.
  20. That all makes sense, and is a pretty good explanation of why a body leaks stormlight. It is missing, however, all the times stormlight acts like a liquid. But, in the context of body leaking, it might not be so relevant. Now we just need Frustration to explain what he was going on about with the soul thing.
  21. Different perspectives are all well and good, however not explaining those perspectives when you're trying to make a point really doesn't help your arguments. Like when you are asked a question about why an open mouth has anything to do with stormlight attaching itself to your soul, and you respond with some nonsense about submarines. If Frustration had bothered to explain his argument in more detail, then it would have made sense, instead of just being nonsense. That said, his reply still would make little sense if he's saying it's down to the soul to hold onto stormlight, but the body is leaking it.
  22. Perhaps Frustration should explain that then, instead of coming out with meaningless lines which have nothing to do with the conversation at hand.
  23. I'm sorry, but this has nothing at all to do with anything being said. Submarines don't have souls, nor can they magically infuse themselves with stormlight. So, perhaps you could answer the question put to you, namely, if stormlight absorption is all about the soul, as you previously claimed, then what difference does an open mouth make? I mean, your soul doesn't need to breathe, so why would stormlight be expelled when breathing, if it's attached to your soul? Come on Frustration, let's have some proper answers here, not just more meaningless nonsense like your submarine line.
  24. I'll play as Bortington the Blind, someone who believes he's on a documentary about Beardspren.
