What are you playing right now?
Bort replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I currently have games running of Skyrim (again), and a UGC (user generated content, basically player written) campaign for Shadowrun Returns. When I finally get around to it, I also intend to restart my epic Civ journey - From the beginning of time in Civ V, through to leaving Earth to colonize the stars (science victory) in Civ: BE, and ending up sending a fleet of ships across the galaxy to save another race of human colonists in Sid Meier's Starships. I did already start once before, but the race I selected in Civ V didn't have a corresponding race in Civ: BE so I'll have to go back and start over. I'll probably wait until I pick up the Civ BE expansion for sea based cities first. Before that though, I intend to buy Shadowrun Returns: Hong Kong. Then perhaps, I might finally get around to starting my own UGC campaign. -

A Smart Guy. I have no idea who is suspicious or not. This is the first time I've been in the thread in 3 or 4 days. I was hoping to get better, then rejoin the game but I think too much time has passed for me to make much sense.

Last game we played, I was an Eliminator with Shallan. She had barely posted in the eliminator doc (if at all, come to think of it, I think all she did was claim a colour and ask about time zones) by the time she was executed. I think her inactivity is more of a time thing, rather than hiding something. As for why I've not been on, I've got a nasty ear infection at the moment, which has spread to include toothache, and has given me a pretty much permanent headache, as well as (and out of it all, this is the worst part) this really annoying, constant ringing in my ear which throws me off whenever I try to concentrate. As a result, I have no clue what is going on, so nothing really to say.

I got the impression that Shallan did something to distract him.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Congratulations Mestiv Did anyone else read this as 'bedspren'? -
Bortholemew had indeed wandered off, having noted a request for beardnuts. He would get to that, but first, "Mistrunner, Awkwardmother, I have been successful. I return home with a fellow Knight, a Tear of Edgli, and a painting which holds out first clue to the Shardmarks. Now, though, I must return to Roshar. The item we seek there has been moved, and is once again somewhere we can retrieve it." He bowed and turned away. There was one more thing he needed to do before he left. The Hero of Hyrule... He wanted beardnuts. "Inkwell," the bearded one said quietly. It was a Library. Everything was done quietly. The libraryspren quickly appeared, and Bortholemew walked towards where Raven was talking with a few others. "Amrynn," Bortholemew said, "this is Inkwell. He is one of the Library's spren, and he will teach you how to make beardnuts. It is a sacred Knights Awkward recipe though, so you must never teach anyone outside these... erm, fragments of interstellar mysticism which make up our walls."

Seonid, I had a question about the availability of metals. When you say there is a base chance of 20% of a metal being available, is that per person, so if three people requested tin, there would be three rolls, each at 20% to see if each person can get some, or would it be one roll at 20%, and everyone can get some?

A spark of light, and a white hair started to curl around in the air above one of the chasms closest to Dalinar's war camp. It quickly grew into a beard and, with a pop, deposited Bortholemew the Blind into mid air above a chasm. "St-" was all he got out before he started falling. Fortunately, the beard was long enough, and Bortholemew's knot tying skills were fast enough, that he was able to lasso him to the chasm wall. From there, the beard helped him to the top. He slipped into Dalinar's war camp when no-one was looking. Now... What was going on here? And how would it try to stop him finding the trailweaver's pipes, which were the next part of the clue to the Shardmarks? Signing up as Bortholemew the Blind.

A spark of light in a quiet corner of the Library spawned a strand of white hair. It grew, spinning into a cocoon, and depositing Raven onto the floor before retreating into a beard shape. Then, with a pop, Bortholemew appeared attached to the beard, and staggered back a few steps. "Home," he said. Then he looked at Raven and asked, "Does it seem busier in here than before we left?" Without waiting for an answer, Bortholemew reached into his beard and pulled forth a flower. "Luma, take this and store it with the painting. We'll need it again, once we have more clues." "Yes, Bortholemew," the spren replied, shooting off with the flower. A second spren appeared. "Master Bortholemew." "Yes, Inkwell?" Bortholemew asked. Inkwell was one of the Library's spren, bonded to the building in a way even normal spren didn't comprehend. "This arrived for you while you were away," Inkwell held out his hand and a note appeared in it, telling the midget of a new clue discovered. This one on Roshar again. He handed the note to Raven and said, "Our next clue is on Roshar, Highprince Dalinar's warcamp. Meet you there? I have a few things to do around here first."

Quick Fix Game 9: The Court of The Gods
Bort replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Bortholemew the Blind looked up as Raven entered the room. He listened to what she had to say, then took her hand and shook it. "Partners, but be warned, the methods we use to travel between worlds does not give us warning about where we will end up. It may well be that, in future, we arrive in a location, and find ourselves on opposite sides of the local conflict, as we were here. I've tried keeping out of these conflicts, but that never works, so we will just have to do the best we can." The serious comments done, Bortholemew smiled and held out a hand. "Luma, show Raven what we came for." A hole formed in his beard, allowing Luma to exit it. She half carried, half dragged a bright red flower with her, dropping it on Bortholemew's hand so he could show Raven. "One of the Tears of Edgli," the beardspren said. "The painter used it while he painted the image that showed our Library." The bearded one himself continued the explanation. "The artist remembered the day he painted it. He awoke one morning, with an overpowering urge to go and paint one of the plazas, but he had no idea why. He also doesn't remember submitting the painting for inspection. Very odd circumstances." Turning around, Bortholemew addressed his high priest. "Thank you, Haribo. Your service here has been most appreciated. Now, it is time for us to depart, and return home." The confused priest opened his mouth to object. Surely this was his God's home? Then he seemingly thought better of it as the midget walked over to Raven and asked, "Ready?" A few minutes later, there was no sign of either of the Gods, apart from a single strand of beard hair floating to the ground, and a high priest who stood there, jaw dropped, trying to work out exactly what he had been witness to over the past few days.- 271 replies

I quite like the metallurgist rule, since both sides would need to go to them for their metals. I do see how this could become OP though, as the metallurgist would quickly discover who had what role, among the allomancers at least. One possible solution would be to allow the allomancers to request three different vials. Yes, they would still gain information, but at a much slower rate. It would also put more metal vials in play, and give the players another reason to cooperate - metal trading. At first glance, this sounds like it may benefit the Ventures more, but depending on how they play it, it could make it far easier for the metallurgist to work out who they are.

Quick Fix Game 9: The Court of The Gods
Bort replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
In cycle three, when Phattemer had rightly predicted who the Rebels were, he made a comment about one of Vauhsoj's posts, about how it felt too composed, as though Vauhsoj had written it, got someone else to edit it, and so on. Yet, Lopen's comment above about keeping things neutral makes me wonder, how do you recognize the difference between a carefully crafted post designed to not make you look suspicious and a carefully crafted post designed to make you look innocent? Raven, I'll get a response out to your RP sometime today, but probably this evening once I'm back home.- 271 replies

Brandon ships via FedEx, which I'd say is a pretty huge company. Customs on a single t-shirt and a single hoodie is not going to push the shipping cost up to anywhere near $160. It's the air fare we'd be paying for, ironically because our parcels are small, we are paying more for it when compared to someone who ordered, say, a box of goods by comparative weight, I mean. Sending 20kg of t-shirts will cost a hell of a lot more than sending 20kg of hammers. Mestiv, thanks for the offer, but I'm told there should be a USPS option on the store, and that Kara (one of Brandon's assistants) is looking into it.

T-shirt and a hoodie to the UK was going to be $160 (for shipping only). I emailed Brandon's website to ask about alternative shipping methods, and got a very friendly response from Kara. It seems their site is supposed to have USPS shipping as well as FedEx, but it doesn't show up for international customers. I'll let you know when I receive a further reply from her - she said she would see what she could do to arrange cheaper shipping.

Quick Fix Game 9: The Court of The Gods
Bort replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Bortholemew the Blind sighed. Braize Funweaver's enthusiasm. The bearded one had wanted to offer Raven a way out. The intrigue was over, so there wasn't any reason for them all to die. Still, it wasn't a total loss. He had survived, and that meant that the Knights Awkward finally had their first clue to the Shardmarks. There was one thing left to do first. "Put her on the bed," Bortholemew instructed Haribo, who was carrying a freshly mummified, or maybe cocooned, body. The confused high priest did so, laying the corpse gently to rest on the oversized bed. "Luma, do your thing." Bortholemew's beardspren popped out of his beard, regarding the still form sadly. "It's not you, Bortholemew," she said. "It might not work." "Please, try." Looking back at the body, Luma nodded, gaining a determined expression. She slowly sank back into the beard. As soon as her head disappeared, the beard came to life, growing and reaching out. It wrapped around the cocoon, merging with the beard hair used to create it, and stopped. Bortholemew started swaying, feeling his power being sucked from him, and invested into Raven. 'Thank Brandon Endowment gave me his divine Breath,' Bortholemew thought as the extra power he had received upon arriving here left him in one swift pull. He fell to his knees as his beard started to retract. Pulling back from the bed, the beard revealed Raven, lying there in her true form, not her Nalthis illusion. "It's done," Luma said weakly, retreating into the beard to rest and recover. The figure on the table drew a loud, haggard, breath. "Thank you," the midget whispered. "Raven, welcome back," Bortholemew said, feeling about as drained as Luma. "I... apologise for Funweaver's actions. He got carried away. When you are ready, come downstairs, and we can return home to the Library. If you need anything, just ask one of the servants." Bortholemew the Blind led Haribo out of the room, and down the stairs to where a certain artist was waiting for them.- 271 replies

Quick Fix Game 9: The Court of The Gods

I'm usually 'on about now' (as in, when Wyrm posted) because the previous evenings haven't been filled with an addictive new computer game (Convoy, on Steam, it's rather fun). But, it was a friday night last night, so it didn't matter if I stayed up late (no work, yay!). As a result, I didn't get to bed until after 5am, and am rather brain dead today. I did check in with the thread earlier, about 9am BST, but couldn't think of anything tosay. For now, I'll place a vote on Orlok. His last post made me think. He has said that his work experience has been keeping him away from the boards. That's fine. But, it's also excellent cover for an Eliminator. A perfectly good reason to avoid being too active and drawing attention to yourself. That coupled with your vote for Vauhsoj, for basically doing something you've done all game, makes me wonder. It may be moved later, depending on what you say, but it will do for now. Edit: I'm curious Raven, why would you think I'm a good target for the Eliminators? Never mind. Your reasoning was in your post. I just missed it the first time round.- 271 replies

Yeah, I upvoted Jerric. This has been a fairly RP heavy game for me, so it's good to see others getting into the spirit Also, I think Jerric's quirk for his character is great - inspires morbid descriptions from people. Gamma, if Jerric dies, I hope you make note of this- 271 replies

A sound whispered through the library-home of the Knights Awkward. It was almost nothing, one hair rubbing against another. Then another, and another. There was a spark of light, and a long white strand of hair appeared, seemingly fed through from another place, growing longer by the second as it hung in midair. The hair grew, twisting and expanding, until it reached the floor. It still didn't stop there, expending some more until it covered a decent sized area white white beard. The beard began to retract, leaving something behind. The legs were the first to be seen, thin wooden supports. The beard retreated, revealing more and more leg until it reached the top of the legs. Now the beard seemed to roll back away from the item, which turned out to be an artist's easel, holding a painting. Once the beard had freed itself from the easel, it pulled back towards the point in the air where it had first appeared and started to shrink. It pulled in on itself, gradually getting smaller, until it disappeared with a pop, apparently returning to wherever it had came from. The painting it left behind was recognizable to anyone who had read Warbreaker. There was a plaza, obviously in Hallandren, but with a few details out of place. The clock, for example, looked familiar. And the spear, held by the statue of one of Kalad's Phantoms, looked... off. Maybe it was nothing, just an extension of the abstract way the painter had used to create this, or was it something more?
