Szeth's Unique Aquisition (SPOILERS!!!!!!)
Kurkistan replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
HA! That would have torn the forum apart if we saw it. I noted this one too, but not for the same reasons, I think. By that point in the book I was pretty sure Zahel was Vasher, and the way that Adolin described Zahel's advice ("as Zahel had taught him years before, sending a direct instruction to the Blade—picturing what he needed it to do.") seemed eerily similar to the Visualizations in Awakening. That may be a cause of shared causation, though: Awakening and Blade-throwing being similar because of Realmatics instead of Zahel's technique being odd. The Terriswoman being Demoux's better half is just speculation (albeit plausible speculation) at this point. -
[Full Book Spoilers] Fulfilled Death Rattles
Kurkistan replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nice spot, Grunion. -
While I agree that it would be nice to know what "broke" Shallan initially, I actually think that Pattern being a Blade that early is a really cool hint to the nature of the Lightweavers' "Oaths". It's all about self-awareness and self-knowledge, right? Well if you're just a precocious child in a loving home environment, then you may well not have to work at it to attain such knowledge. "I love my parents and pretty flowers" (though that's probably not as simple as that at age 11) might be enough to do the job at that point. But I think that after Shallan started going into wall-staring mode and developed her memory-flinch, then she lost that degree of self-knowledge and regressed back to a point where, if Pattern weren't already a Blade, then she probably wouldn't have been able to make him one. EDIT: Also, on breaking, I think we may all overestimating what's need to "break" someone, at least on Roshar. Kaladin apparently drew Syl back when he was a kid, before Roshone, even, so his mild isolation from the rest of the village might have done it for him. Or perhaps seeing someone die on the table (okay, that one is a bit more traumatic). But he wasn't some psychologically crippled wreck at that point, either way.

Very very nice, Harakeke. We'd be lost without you. EDIT: But yeah, that's definitely "Cove" there. The labels match up to the location of, well, coves on the map.

Those all sound like good ideas to me. I'd probably just go to "Rosharan Magic" for now. Easy to replace when we get the real name and accurate enough, if a bit bland.
-
It occurs to me that the flashbacks were much more about character development than really getting simple information. We all knew or could reasonably guess most of the end-results of this stuff going in, I think. It's more important that we get Shallan's emotions and reactions to her past than it is to find out what happened in it.

There is the question of whether the spren in question might be able to voluntarily break the bond from their end at that point, if you did it by stealing a Nahel bond.

Word of Brandon from Huntington beach signing.
Kurkistan replied to ericth's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks for the info. Nothing fundamentally new here, but it's always good to get more WoB. -
It was late and I was sleep deprived, but I nearly did a spit take when Hoid said:

Theory Status Index as of WoR [Spoilers]
Kurkistan replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
You're right: not for sure. I thought that was the implication of Amaram's thoughts about Gavilar's plan, Eshonai's thoughts about Gavilar's plan, and this WoB from Brandon (he was likely talking about Navani's notebook and how it talks about capturing spren) pretty much nail it down as containing a spren of some type. I agree that I shouldn't have said it was flat-out confirmed though. I'll edit it. @aheerema Sorry, I suppose I was a tad lazy there. Those are all from the "I told you so" thread I linked to at the beginning of my post. Some of them have theories behind them, some don't, but mostly they're just people "calling" how things are, rather than putting forth arguments and evidence and whatnot. -
I wouldn't be surprised if Nightblood is just about as far as he's willing to go. To the uninitiated, Nightblood is essentially "another sword with way too much power that was just given to a crazy man". There's no need for them to get into the specifics of his origins or anything: he can just be treated as a black sword box of death. @Feather Thanks.

Theory Status Index as of WoR [Spoilers]
Kurkistan replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well there are quite a few listed in the "I told you so" threads (one, two). Szeth has an Honorblade Summary: Honorblades bestow surgebinding on their wielders without the need for a spren. Szeth has one such. Status: Confirmed -Related: Szeth gets his windrunner abilities from his Shardblade Shardblades are corrupted Summary: Odium or some other influence "tainted" or otherwise did something to Shardblades, or perhaps they were always corrupted. Status: Iffy, depending on interpretation of the original theory. They're the corpses of murdered bond-spren, but not really "corrupted" in any way. They don't appear to be linked directly to the Thrill, for one. Urithiru is located on the main continental land mass of Roshar to the west of Alethela in the physical realm. Summary: See above. Status: Confirmed, it's in the mountains west of Alethala. The parshendi killed Gavilar because "The evil sphere of doom" was a corrupted spren that could create a "voidbringer parshendi form". Summary: See above (and wow was that a good/accurate call) Status: Likely. ---- It's a fine line which one's to port over here because several weren't really "theories", per se, but just predictions. Someone else can feel free to grab more of them. -
Information from the midnight signing! (SPOILERS)
Kurkistan replied to Pinpoint's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes. This WoB is actually why we know for sure that Shardblades cause Spiritual wounds. Source: -
That'll do, I suppose. The release video/audio isn't up yet, is it?

Information from the midnight signing! (SPOILERS)
Kurkistan replied to Pinpoint's topic in Stormlight Archive
You can just use Feruchemical gold if you're already on Scadrial. Or AonDor or Resealing or the like. I'd hazard that anything with more oompth than Allomantic pewter would get the job done. -
Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings
Kurkistan replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
Not quite, Nepene. We didn't even find out that Honor was the Almighty's Shard until we asked Brandon about it. -
Oh, we have direct confirmation on this? Where, might I ask? (I do like having my links)
-
Well that's cool. Mind posting a thread for that so you can get the people's attention with more of your absurd abilities to decipher things? (though, to be fair, that one was likely easier because you could probably assume Alethkar and the city/place names)

Some new info from Peter: It doesn't look like this was a mistake on their part: Dalinar likely wasn't using an Honorblade: Source:
-
I agree Mraize is likely a wordlhopper (though I've not yet, to my knowledge, seen the absolute proof if we're to think that the base is really Hoid's), but I really must get back to the "non-intervention policy" that both sides of the letter-dialogue claim the Dragon follows. Assassinating people and orchestrating grand schemes to topple/control society don't fall under that definition, I don't think.

It's that time again! Time to bring Sharders to account for their foolish promises/bets/oaths!!! We've got a nice spread this book, but no outright loses, sadly. My limb collection does not grow... You win this round, Scott. I think we can all agree that Mr. Grumpy up in the clouds is as Honorary as they get. Yet another win. Though I think we were all surprised at the non-Shardblady method of the execution, Riddles managed not to specify that in his oath. These Words are Accepted, then. Moogle managed to double down: I'll give Moogle this one. As I've said myself, it's near certain their Order 10 at this point. One more book left and then it's bye bye hat, Shardbearer... --- Any oaths I forgot?

Duly upvoted.

Very nice spot, Azul.

Thanks for the hint, Peter. I must admit that usually I rather fear (in a friendly and appreciative way, of course ) your comments, what with their crypticism and multiple meanings. This one seems rather straightforward, though... ... ... IT'S A TRAP!!!!
