Brandon has talked about how Pattern "withdrew" after Shallan started getting all lie-to-herself. We also have some more direct WoB: Source:

I'd just assumed that was a heavily stylized take on the compass rose.

Questions for Omaha Signing, 3-13-2014
Kurkistan replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Events and Signings
Ooh, very interesting answer, that second one. -
Chaos!? You wound me! ( ) -Though, to be fair, most of my delving into the minutia of time bubbles is at the very least spurred by FTL considerations.

EDIT: Better WoB: Kind of. Odium visited Sel long before the events in Elantris (he was the cause of the Seons/Skaze showing up), but the chasm/Reod were likely the consequence of some weird magical buildup that happened because of the Splintering he did. I believe one of the epigraphs from the in-world WoR speaks to this, how the Elsecallers were the best at Shadesmar. One thing to help your theory is that even Kaladin gets a glimpse of Shadesmar when he first uses the Basic Lashing. We know that Hoid uses Shadesmar (can't recall the link, sorry); you might want to know that space without people is "contracted" in the Cognitive realm.

Szeth Had an Honorblade...Or Did He? [spoilers]
Kurkistan replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'd like to note that I'm with Shardlet in thinking that this is mostly a misunderstanding on our part. Anything else is rather silly, I think. One thing I'd like to note is that, at the point where Szeth was convinced that Kaldin had one of the 2 Regrowth-enabling Honorblades, he hadn't seen Kaladin do anything but glow and heal his arm. The arm-healing in particular, it seems, is supposed to be impossible with infused-Stormlight from an Honorblade but okay with even Honorblade-Regrowth. Sure Kaladin claimed to be a Windrunner, but he never actually used any Lashings.- 43 replies

You can always upload the audio to Soundcloud if you want some help, Jerric. -
Szeth Had an Honorblade...Or Did He? [spoilers]
Kurkistan replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Spren bonds are Spiritual (forgive me, but I can't find the source at the moment), just so you know. "Connection-y" things tend to be Spiritual in nature. Welcome to the forums, btw!- 43 replies

It's nice to get some new annotations. Besides the tidbits (Sazed's Zenness, the God Beyond...), I like to read Brandon's thoughts on his writing. @Windy Let's call it dozing, then.

Your "I Knew It" Moments for Words of Radiance?
Kurkistan replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not to burst your bubble, but I think you may be confusing some characters. Zahel != Nalan, I don't believe. So Vasher is the swordmaster, but somehow Nalan got a hold of Nightblood. -
Don't forget that Ym (either Edgedancer or Truthwatcher, due to having Regrowth) corresponds to a female Herald.

Physical Colour is not the Fuel for Awakening *Mild WoR Spoilers*
Kurkistan replied to Aonar's topic in Warbreaker
I'd like to note that Shard-severed limbs seem to functionally be paralyzed, not "dead." They likely still have blood flowing through them and whatnot, otherwise they'd literally rot off.- 56 replies

Physical Colour is not the Fuel for Awakening *Mild WoR Spoilers*
Kurkistan replied to Aonar's topic in Warbreaker
I don't think that's how it works. He makes light prismatic, not objects, and Awakening drains the color from objects.- 56 replies

Physical Colour is not the Fuel for Awakening *Mild WoR Spoilers*
Kurkistan replied to Aonar's topic in Warbreaker
Because they don't? I'm fairly sure that even Susebron can't get any energy from pure-white objects.- 56 replies

Your "I Knew It" Moments for Words of Radiance?
Kurkistan replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
Let's see... I got the nature of Stormlight healing very wrong. Spren as living ideas is basically in line with my whole Form theory (though I intend to clarify that with Brandon at the signing in a week ). Hmm... And now that the time comes I can't think of anything that stuck out. I'm sure that something will occur to me as soon as I click "Post". -
Here's a new one that Aonar came up with: What connection is there between Lifeless and Shard-severed limbs? -There's a theory that the color-drain of Awakening is actually the initial Command feeding off energy released when and object's Spiritual connections are broken/an object is Spiritually damaged.

Oh great, we just need a quality to match some of the best animation to come out of America in decades. That should be easy.

Kurkistan replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Events and Signings
I'm curious as to why you think Nightblood's origins are in doubt. -
@Wes Ah, thank you for that additional information. I agree that "non-Windrunner" covers other Orders, but I was afraid that Brandon might have misinterpreted the meaning of the question and was himself referring only to non-Surgebinders.

That's not 100% that, say, a Lightweaver would get the powers, though.

Questions for Omaha Signing, 3-13-2014
Kurkistan replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Events and Signings
Here's a few I've added to my list since WoR came out: Does being the donor of a Hemalurgic spike have any implications for your afterlife? Are there a bunch of Scadrian souls wandering the afterlife with holes their personalities/memories/identities? Why did Syl turn into a hammer during Kaladin's fight with Szeth? A hammer might be better against Plate, perhaps, but not against squishy flesh. You've said that Drabs on Nalthis don't have Innate Investiture: How are they still sentient, then?
