  1. I am looking at the old map and the new black and white map and the only thing I see different really is the misted mountains. Also, I never realized before that Roshar the continent is in the Southern Hemisphere. Otherwise, I may be going nuts, and the map to focus on might be the colored one.
  2. I always assumed the nexuses (nexii?) were how you got to the other shardworlds.
  3. New New Theory, the Stonewards are Thermians.
  4. Roshar has always looked like a hurricane to me. Irrelevant, I know, but I can't ever see it as anything else.
  5. I zoomed in on the signature. There is a symbol next to it...
  6. That map was just the frostlands though. There are two Roshar maps. One is the colored endpaper and one is the Isasik Shulin one: http://brandonsanderson.com/books/the-stormlight-archive/words-of-radiance/stormlight-2-maps-and-illustrations/#PhotoSwipe1394631940838 http://brandonsanderson.com/books/the-stormlight-archive/words-of-radiance/stormlight-2-maps-and-illustrations/#PhotoSwipe1394631940838 I hope I did those right, my iPad is acting weird.
  7. I was just looking at the map and coming over here to see if anyone had posted about it - the rays from the compass immediately struck me as unusual.
  8. Yeah I always assumed it to be common knowledge that they were not native. I'm not good with timelines so I don't know where their first arrival matches up with the rest of the cosmere. Doesn't matter really, just a crazy idea I once had.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I was always under the belief that the Heralds were not native to Roshar. I don't know why I thought this. It would amuse me if each Herald was from a different shardworld, brought by Honor to defeat Odium. But I think this all may be a hallucination, or perhaps a dream I once had after too much wine.
  10. I actually can see some ties with the beauty conversation and with the Fleet story he tells. Both indicate that giving up isn't the right course, humanity.
  11. Or philosophers. Edit: That being said, I think some of The end of WoR comments could possibly be describing the struggles of writing a highly anticipated sequel!
  12. Was her father a Ghostblood before the incident with her Mother and the loss of their fortune? I got the impression that he was not, but may be misinformed. I also highly doubt her mother was an Envisager. I'm not sure what "group" she belonged to, but I don't think it was the Envisagers.
  13. I figured it was the cities of the Silver Kingdoms, but wasn't sure how those related to "current" cities - thanks for the clear listing. The Silver Kingdoms map doesn't show any cities. I suppose it may not be relevant. Akinah is one of the cities Kabsal draws in WoK, right?
  14. Do we know which cities had oath gates? I can't remember if that information is listed or not.
  15. Here's the quote from the book: Now that he saw those pillars from this perspective, he recognized that there was one of them in Kholinar. It made up the dais upon which the palace and royal temple had been built. Shallan suspected that Jasnah had tried to open the Oathgate there; the woman’s notes said that Oathgates to each of the cities were locked tight. Only the one in the Shattered Plains had been left open. Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (pp. 1069-1070). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. I wonder which other ones Jasnah tried to open. With the ability to transport herself, she could have been to all of them.
  16. True. I guess you can't put much stock into people's reactions when Hoid is around. I do find Chan-a-rach to be a bizarre deviation from the rest of the Herald names. I briefly just toyed in my head with the idea that the Heralds (as they're likely not native to Roshar), are each from a different Shardworld initially, and maybe we could figure it out based on their "real" names. But that doesn't really make that much sense, so it's probably best to just take it at face value EDIT: My apologies, my post wasn't very clear. Gotta work on that. I was wondering more as to why Vorinism was so coo coo for symmetry in general, using the Herald names as an example. It's clearly very important, and I wondered if there were theories about a stronger meaning behind it, or just one of those things that a religion latches on to as being important.
  17. Are there any theories on the Vorin insistence on palindromes? I'm relatively new here, so I don't know if that's something that people have discussed, or if it is just assumed to be a religious quirk.
  18. I wish Ym had survived to be a future character. I quite liked him.
  19. She stopped at a paperweight on the women’s writing desk beside the king’s chair, poking at the block of crystal with a strange kind of crab-thing trapped inside. Were those wings? Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 95). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. Rysn's Larkin: Something crawled there, about as big as the palm of her hand— a creature that looked like a cremling, but with wings that folded along the back. Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 196). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. Not 100% stated, but seems like the same thing, especially when you consider that kings pay fortunes for the dead ones.
  20. I actually agree with you based on logic, but I also don't know why Kaladin wouldn't react to hearing a strange name for one of the Heralds. Or, he was in prison and didn't really think about it or care
  21. “Capacity,” he whispered, turning a page. “Capacity to stop what was coming. The capacity to save humankind.” Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 913). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition. Side note, the capacity/ability question is brought up by Elkohar later: “How do people know what to do? Why don’t I know what to do? I was born to this office, given the throne by the Almighty himself! Why would he give me the title, but not the capacity? It defies reason. Sanderson, Brandon (2014-03-04). Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archive, The) (p. 966). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle Edition.
  22. I assume Chan-a-rach is a Vorin name or close to it. Hoid uses it when speaking to Kaladin, and Kal doesn't seem to flinch at hearing a weird name for one of the Heralds. Also, I guess Chana/Chanarach/Chanaranach was considered to be fairly speedy, what with the racing and all.
  23. I quite agree with this. Mr. T's mistake may be in having asked for the capacity to do something instead of just asking for said something to happen.
  24. Yes, it is a larkin. Elkohar also has a dead one on his desk.
