  1. There's a lot more matrix theory here than I expected. Did you know that in my graduate linear algebra class, we used matrices maybe... twice? Turns out that you don't need (or want) matrices for proving powerful results.
  2. It is a power of 2, of course. (And sixteen.)
  3. Editing this topic title to not have all caps.
  4. Additionally he is still welcome to let us know why he did this via email. In any case, I am closing this topic.
  5. I'm a college professor who teaches math. I can answer questions but don't have time to scroll through now. But after this post I'll check. LaTeX is not supported yet but may in the future. Two names for the same thing. We just write the integral symbol to denote "take the antiderivative." They are the same thing. Now, the reason why you would want to use the integral symbol is because antiderivatives are related to area, specifically by the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. So that's why we use that notation for taking an antiderivative. That's actually not what the antiderivative of most functions are. Antiderivatives are just, hey, you had a derivative, now find which function it came from. They are derivative rules in reverse essentially.
  6. I've answered this before. You may look here for my response: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/23963-app/#entry240990 Long story short, if an app doesn't gain anything over the website, there's no point, and we all do this for free. We don't have resources to do an app to the quality we would want on multiple OSes. And it would be on multiple OSes. It would be a simultaneous Google Play and Apple Store thing. One platform would not be supported more than another. But again, why is an app even necessary? If you add extra features to an app, people complain it isn't in the main site. The true solution is a good mobile responsive design, which will be happening when the site is upgraded. The only mobile app feature that I could see being useful are notifications, but you can send those via email, so I don't think that is particularly compelling to spend a lot of time making excellent apps, when we could spend time enhancing the actual website. The site isn't actually static. There are very few static pages on 17S.
  7. I have edited the topic title to not contain spoilers.
  8. One of my very favorites. I put it higher so it would be more visible, and also so people who were less lore-heavy were suddenly very confused
  9. It'd be unfortunate if something were to happen to your carefully discovered reputation levels Things are in the works, and we'll never tell you how many of them you missed. Muwhahaha.
  10. Also, Around the Cosmere is returning. It's actually pretty difficult when you're busy to do big reviews of content. It's kind of a lot of work.
  11. I'd have to investigate svgs here, I may or may not be able to enable them here. Sorry.
  12. Okay, here's how this is going to go down: we are not going to have in-depth political discussion of Earth and its racism. If you are going to discuss politics, put it to PMs. Everyone should stick to relevant discussion to the books. navybrandt, what I quoted is not relevant to the books, and simply has a political agenda. As an administrator, I do not care what political affiliation or opinions you have, but I do know that politics can get extremely charged. I will ask you to not continue this line of thought, and have you focus directly on Stormlight Archive. This topic is not going to be a thread on "Black Lives Matter." That segment of this topic is done. I will not be having fights break out--fights that are off-topic to the topic at hand. So, everyone, please continue this discussion, but keep it relevant to the books at all times. Be respectful of other viewpoints. But honestly, I think if everyone focuses on the book, it will be a fruitful discussion, rather than a political argument with no resolution. This topic is not going to have political arguments.
  13. Later this evening (morning of October 22nd), there will be site maintenance done by our host. It will occur at 1am Pacific time. There is two hours allotted for this maintenance but could be shorter in duration. No need to worry!
  14. Obviously Snapping would be considered Initiation.
  15. Not yet... There's going to be news regarding the database soon™, and you will be able to get notifications for it. This might take time but it is in the pipeline.
  16. I agree with Shroom. Vin is passable but it is not excellent and so I don't think it should be featured yet. I am generally not one to say who should do what on the wiki, because people should do what they are passionate about. However, I honestly don't know if Vin is the best use of time. Certainly much of the original trilogy needs to be better, but I would generally say to focus on the new stuff. On the other hand, there was that guy who was super pissy that some main character pages were not up to par (like Dilaf). Writing long articles is really hard and a huge effort. I cannot think of anything more time intensive than writing an article on the main character of three books.
  17. Obviously the featured article should be changed but such articles need to actually be good and have images associated with them. There is not a wide variety of such things.
  18. I was thinking of calling them "Bleeder's construct" for the purposes of the wiki. She got the knowledge elsewhere, but that's the clearest thing that is true.
  19. I'm sure nothing bad happens in Bands, right?
  20. Agreed, Vax must be a planet (despite what this thread thinks http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/46195-new-hoid-scene-ars-arcanum-elantris-10th-anniversary/#entry337112). It is mentioned in the same breath as Taldain, another Shardworld. Another factor to Vax being a planet is that I asked what series Vax was associated with, directly with the understanding it was a Shardworld. If Brandon wanted to keep the mystery he could say "Why do you think it is a Shardworld ;)" (yes, he says those emoticons). He didn't. I am certain it is a planet. It may or may not be Dark One, though. He wouldn't even tell me if it is one of the ten core worlds, of which there are still some unknown ones.
  21. Go for it. We are currently planning how to update things. I'll update the infobox on Cosmere and other such things. What are you planning on doing? Mark things with the {{spoiler}} tag though!
  22. Technically this was about... oh, three minutes after that reveal.
  23. The discussion of the breakdown of these two types is something important that we will talk about for a long time to come, I think.
  24. White Sand forum will be made very soon so all this Taldain-y stuff can be more open. Not tonight, though.
  25. Windy and Weiry suggested "Potential" Investiture, to mimic potential and kinetic energy in physics, and I will use that too. I do not believe merely having Breath is "Kinetic," it just means you're more Invested. Something has to happen for that to work. Sure, Investiture can have effects, but I think you actually have to use it.
