Turns out soon is sometimes actually soon.

Still exists but is not obvious on the profile. That's actually not a good change, honestly, because some do try and obfuscate their douchery by changing their display names.

Tonight, at 9pm Pacific time, we will at long last update 17th Shard's forum software to a new version. The site maintenance--where the forums will not be operational--may last as long as twelve hours, but should be no more than that. We'll be updating you on Twitter. It's a huge update to the site and our forum software. Here are some things to get excited about: Responsive Design / New Mobile Site: The current mobile site sucks, but the new site has a fully responsive design, which means that every feature on the desktop site will be on mobile. Multiquotes on mobile? You got it. Everything you want on mobile, you will have. It's really awesome. New Desktop Design: The legendary Will (Shivertongue on the site) appeared in the room without a sound, said nothing but handed over a flash drive, and had vanished by the time you looked up again. It's some pretty cool new art, though. The legendary Will (Shivertongue on the site) has come out of his coffin and created some amazing stuff. But it's really cool. Get excited. Cosmere Q&A board: No more will need the Q&A thread. We will have a separate Cosmere Q&A board where people can upvote rate questions for visibility, and people can answer questions and rate the answers as well. There's a lot of more minor stuff. (Undoing upvotes and downvotes, for one.) I hope you're excited. Compared to the new site, the current one is just... guh. I can't wait to show you all what's going on. I know change will be hard. The editor in the new version will be quite a bit different, for one, but I think all the change will be worth it. One thing that I want to let you know about is that in our current version, there is a distinction between Usernames (the thing you log in with) and Display Names. These will be merged in the new version, and you will just have a Display Name.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Chaos replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Within 24 hours the big site upgrade will begin. I'm excited! There will be an announcement topic in the morning. For now, I shall sleep. Yay, that's great -
Calamity swag contest from a month or so ago.

Yes. I've been bugging Mi'ch to do this :3

You highlight the text you want to be in spoilers and press the spoiler button and then it's done. IPS when upgrading seems to use the old emotes, but they can be added very easily. I'm not opposed to using addons, and the editor toolbars are highly customizable from the ACP. You'll have all those features.

You will not be able to edit BBCode after the fact. There is an HTML source editor but it will not be enabled by members by default because letting people do arbitrary HTML is not a good idea. I might let people occasionally use it if they request it, and then I revoke later. Not a way to have the old BBCode view sorry. There will be spoilers and I believe horizontal rules and such. Spoilers for sure.

I mean, you can look me up on Facebook and see xD

It's not really anything formal. He tends to not mind Sharders recording the Q&As. I know we did that at SpoCon way back when. Though, I'm sure he expects it more in these local signings. Anyone can do it, and if no one you know is coming to a signing you're going to, feel free to record it! It was great meeting you at the signing That's right, but typing BBCode will still render as you would expect. It's just things aren't stored as BBCode--it's stored as HTML--so there's no BBCode view anymore.

Guys at the Brandon signing today, uh... Okay, so I was standing next to Isaac next the Q&A. Brandon referred to beta readers and pointed to me (that was terrifying). After the Q&A, two people mistaked me for Peter. The hell. One wanted me to sign books. Um... that's frankly the most hilarious things that has happened but no I'm not going to sign books. xD Uh what.
-
Could also be I don't use the rich text editor. This will be basically irrelevant on the new site as it will work differently.
-
I don't have things set on my account where I get notified when I am quoted, but perhaps it has something to do with me using Multiquote in that last one. Do you get notified for this one?

One guy really hated me in the Learning Center though. Oh well. Nargles.

I believe some people summoned me to answer this. I do read this thread rather religiously if I am online. Sometimes I just don't have time to respond. I... don't know if I've ever felt like that. Usually what happens is the euphoria where you simply know it is correct, simply because you've done every step correctly. Also not enough people have recognized this post of Josh: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/54324-random-stuff-ix-rogue-admins/page-58?p=450634#entry450634I feel like it is our finest work. (Josh and I are in the same place. Prepare for memes.)

Two months ago Brandon said: "Status of the game is...not looking good. (sorry.) After a series of setbacks at the game studio, I'm not sure if we'll ever see this." Not surprising. It hasn't been at E3 in a long time. I doubt we would see it here, and if not, it is almost certainly total vaporware.

I saw Warcraft last night. It was solidly pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot. It absolutely does not deserve its Rotten Tomatoes score. People comparing it to Battlefield Earth are utterly full of crap and being dramatic. It was fun. There are laughs. It isn't the next Lord of the Rings and obviously isn't trying to be. Other reviews called it derivative. Yeah, uh, Warcraft 1 was derivative about 30 years ago. But still, the only thing derivative about Warcraft is that there are traditional fantasy races in it. The plot is totally different. Anyway, Warcraft was solid. I would recommend. I don't have too much knowledge of Warcraft lore. I just play Hearthstone. Never played WoW. I did play some Warcraft 3, whose lore is great, and sometimes went on the wiki. I don't think you need much at all of a background to enjoy the movie. They did a good job.

This is great! I'm thrilled that you shared this

Purely coincidentally to the signing, I will be in the Salt Lake area this weekend, so you can bet your butts I'll be at the signing!
-
I don't use them, but I hear I have a profile on there.
-
Yeah, that happened to me. I dunno.

You know, there are some things that just make me wish I could divinely smite people. That principal would definitely get on the list fast. Like, what the crap.

Probably just being at my desk too much?

My neck really hurts today. Ow.
