Shardcast: Aimia and Akinah

Chaos
 Share

Do you like mysteries? If so, great, because we're going to be talking about Aimia, Akinah, and the Scouring of Aimia this week. There's so many mysteries here, it's almost as if we don't have anything to talk about. But joke's on you, we have plenty. Oddly enough, we very easily could have called this "Dawnshardcast." You'll see why.

Our cast today is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and Ben (Overlord Jebus). Big shout-out to Ben who edited this podcast. Send your Who's That Cosmere Character to [email protected], leave a rating and review for us on iTunes, and as always, you can subscribe to Shardcast with this RSS feed: http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:102123174/sounds.rss

What if the Aimia kept the dawnshards and the last group of radients were denied access? This could be a worthiness issue that is referenced. And the radients tried to force their way to them which caused the scouring and wounded the Sibling.

That's what I thought, perhaps the Aimians hided the dawnshard from either unmade or KR, the scouring happened because someone/some party tried to find the weapon but didn't know where exactly to find, so they destroyed everything in sight to look for it (and if the Aimians actually hided the dawnshard from everyone else, there was a good chance they will be accused for being involved with the enemy or something like that, thus "scour" not "tragedy").

Concerning Immortality @ 1:13:30:

Comment is made by Arclo in Edgedancer, who quotes Axies:

Quote

When one achieves immortality, one must find purpose beyond the struggle to live, as old Axies always said.

Long time listener, first time caller.

The Curse of Kind always sounded to me like a Kandra Blessing. The Scouring of Aimia sounds like something Nale would do - possibly playing up the other meaning of scour: "to search extensively and exhaustively." Perhaps the Aimians were hunted by Skybreakers to near extinction like the Radiants?

It could be. What worries me is Honor makes it sound like they are just not an option anymore. If they were simply hidden on Aimia, Honor would have been liked "Seek out the Dawnshards in Aimia" or something.

I hadn't thought of it as a Kandra blessing but you're not wrong! There may be more here than meets the eye. We have blueskinned, shape-shifting creatures on Roshar... Could Dysians be hemalurgic constructs? :D

Random theory from left field as I listen. The Dawnshards are on Aimia. The sleepless are guarding them. One of the Sleepless has bonded the Sibling and they are using some Fabrial with the Sibling(or a Dawnshard) to create the storm surrounding the island to deter people from landing.

I know the whole "but without the dawn shards..." line is a big hole in this thought. But, Odium is imprisoned on Roshar, right? So, do we have any WoB as to what it would take to trap him, or what specifically has trapped him there? We know it wasn't always the case, because he's splintered other shards, but he tells Dalinar that he wants to be released.

So, with that said, could the dawn shards have anything to do with/be Odium's prison?

Could perhaps the dawnshards be so deadly like nightblood? Maybe they destroy completely? Perhaps the last radiants pre-Recreance weren't worthy enough? Or maybe they were too tempted to use the dawnshards? Or they lost enough knowledge in between Desolations that they couldn't use them? I wonder if the dawnshards have a personality like nightblood, if they can "think" on their own? Or maybe there is a secret/special order of spren that specifically manifests as a dawnshard? So many questions! I am determined to find as many secrets to the Cosmere before the next stormlight book!! Your podcast is excellent! Thanks for all the hard work!!

Isn't Odium's shard on Braize? If we go with the theory that the dawnshards have something to do with Odium's prison, would they also affect Cultivation and Honor? Or perhaps they were designed with Odium in mind because of his destructive nature and the Aimians or Listeners of the past were like we have to do something drastic to help contain the shard Odium, so dawnshards?

Alternatives to the dawnshards that could be hidden in Akinah... Unmade. What if Akinah is where the Radiants after the False Desolation hid the trapped Ba-Ado-Mishram there or Dai gonarthis is trapped there.

I feel the Kaza Interlude implies something monumental hidden in Akinah.

Quote

"I cannot speak", the cook said, "even to sate a dying demand. There are those who culd pull secrets from your soul, and the cost would be the ends of worlds. ..."

One or two captured Unmade don't sound dramatical enough.

Note that - until now- Odium has just splintered Shards. He did not destroy any world - though he had some impact on the local magics. For example, Sel is a big populated planet with multiple flourishing societies, although most of the Investiture of Devotion and Dominion was stuffed into the Cognitive Realm. Threnody might suffer from the Evil - possibly a result of Odium's fight against Ambition. Anyway, also this planet is not destroyed.
It is possible that Odium has to destroy the planets in the Greater Rosharan system to get out of his trap as a last resort and the hidden stuff in Aimia would help him with that. Destroying every planet would be a bad strategy for the Shard that wants to be called Passion, though. Not much of that would be left when all is vaporated.

Another thought: It is not necessarily only Odium or Sja-Anat as a proxy of Odium who could be able to pull secrets from souls on their way to the Beyond. We have seen one of the IRE in Shadesmar, there might be other cosmere-aware agents waiting and fishing for information. A Dawnshard in Mraizes cosmere collection would be a rather prominent piece.
