But are there really non-sapient Voidspren? IT's seemed that all the non-speaking Voidspren do actually report to Odium and have intelligence (thinking about the secret spren). Other than that, we've seen Ulim and similar, and the Fused. Have I missed anything?

Stormspren, but other than that, I don't think so.

Have they talked? I think those were the ones Syl said were spying for Odium.

All the Regal sprens seem to be Void Spren

They probably can think somewhat or at least can heavily influence emotions

This is a cool theory, and evidence wise I could see it being right, but it doesn't feel like it lines up narratively.

Lift is from Rall Elorim. Book six is Lift's flashback book, so we will likely be seeing lots of Rall Elorim in the flashbacks. As well, there's a good chance her storyline in the modern portion of the book will see her returning to Rall Elorim and facing her past. If that's true, it doesn't make sense for book five to have a very significant plot about Rall Elorim and its secrets when book six will also have a plot about Rall Elorim and its secrets.

That is actually a very good point, you are very insightful, thank you.

The only thought I have for that is that it could be used to highten the mystery of Rall Elorim instead of removing it, we still don't know why Mishram wanted to go there, for instance.

This has clearly been on my mind, because I had a dream last night that the blurb for KOWT revealed that Shallan and Adolin were going to Rall Elorim, and I had to eat crow.

I'm afraid I don't understand this, is that a figure of speech I'm not familiar with?

Crows are edible, I think

Well of course it did that’s the point. I wasn’t going to wait for someone to say “what’s crow” and then I’d have to respond... it would be horrible

this makes everything much simpler

Well this entire topic is speculative anyway and BAM is obviously in Kholinar

So instead of some people missing the joke and other enjoying it you have most people understand the joke but it not be funny. I still think it's a mistake

No completely serious it makes complete sense narratively because Navani has a way into Kholinar because of her title she will go to negotiate as a bondsmith, bring Shallan with her as an escort.

Then Shallan would look for BAM

The real reason BAM is there is because in the days of KR a lot of Windrunners lived in Kholinar so that would have been a defensible position.

I think it makes more sense than it being in a Rall elorim

You're right, it's possible BaM used to be in Kholinar, finding her could also be the actual reason the fused where completely destroying the castle at the end of OB, but if she was then she's definitely been displaced when Odium found her, there's no way he'd leave her in a contested zone.

Why do you think there was a lot of Windrunners ther at the time of the KRs? We know Alethela was considered as a place to build Urithiru but why windrunners in particular?

It says it somewhere in WoR I’ll try to find it sometime but there is a source

Edit: My source seems to have run out on me but if anyone else wants to find it is there...somewhere. In one of three 1000 page Stormlight books ( This is why your supposed to put page numbers in your notes, lesson learnt)

Again, you can't use a theory as a counter argument for a theory.

No it doesn't Dalinar already has a deal, why would they need more negotiations.

According to Brandon they were looking for Design.

It's in the starfall vision, and I think it's in WoK.

Why not?  its not an argument but an alternative

Those negotiations don't at all deal with any human/singer relations which neighboring countries do need in order to thrive

then you put it in it's own thread, and if you want we can have a third where we compare the two, which I am totally down for that sounds epic, but unless it's evidence it doesn't belong as more than a single post or so.

It would be premature to start those negotiations until after the duel of champions, as a large part of the state of Roshar will be decided there.

I think this has to do with cognitive shadows.

That would be rather hard, most of the CS are on Braize at the time the name would have come around, and making new ones is really difficult except on Threnody.

Well, this topic was a blast to read through.

I agree with @Frustration; it would make sense for BAM to be in Ral-Elorim. Brandon really likes narrative symmetry (shadows literal and physical). Also, having the characters be like "citY OF SHADOWS" and Lift saying it's cool- but then it's not- would be a Sandersoneque twist. I also think that the climax of KOWt is going to happen in Shinovar (For one, it's Szeth's book) and I think the Unmade(s?) we will be focusing on will be Sja-Anat and whichever Unmade is in Shinovar.

We know from Brandon that the back half of Stormlight will be focusing more on the Heralds, and as 9/10 of them likely freaked out during the whole BAM false desolation, I think it's plausible for her to wait until the back half*.

I wouldn't be surprised at either outcome, but I think that everyone is expecting BAM to show up in KOWt, and Brandon has consistently done things a lot faster than we thought in the SLA, so he could definitely justify waiting longer than we think on this. Plus then Jasnah and Renarin have time to research for the back half.

*Also Brandon likes to make Chaos suffer.

could BAM be the third Bondsmith? their abilities seem distinctly Bondsmith-y

We have confirmation the bondsmith spren are

  • Stormfather
  • Sibling
  • Nightwatcher

Now they might be the closest Unmade to a Bondsmith, even though it isn't perfect and would likely be even closer to one of the other orders.

Do you happen to have the exact language in re the Nightwatcher? I am away from my book, but I'd love to get lawyerly at the exact language. I have... thoughts...

Of course
