Tavar Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I was wondering what each ideal unlocks. For windrunners the first ideal allows bonding and access to radiant powers. The third allows a shard blade. The fourth allows shard plate. The fifth is pretty much unknown for now. But what does the second ideal do? Does the second allow anything new that one could not already achieve with the first ideal?
Chasmgoat he/him Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I believe the second ideal allows you to be stronger in the powers.
Honorless he/him Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 The Third Ideal allows Radiants to summon their spren in the form of Shardblades, Shardplate comes after the Fourth Ideal. For some Orders, certain parts of their powers are locked till they reach a higher Ideal: like Dustbringers and Skybreakers, who don't get access to the Surge of Division straight away.

Well Skybreakers anyway. I haven't heard that of Dustbringers and Maltala certainly was third ideal fast.
Autobrecciation Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I know there is no logical way for it to work, but I want fifth ideal to grant a Ryshadium somehow. 2

As for Malata, that probably has to do with how much perception plays into the Oaths and the Ashspren seem to not care all that much about good character of their Radiants as much as getting revenge for the Recreance and I suspect their spren don't have great self-control, that's the impression they've given me and they'd sort of mirror their Radiants this way, like how Cryptics are interested in lies.
LuckyJim Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 It changes depending on the orders, Skybreakers don't get surges until the second and third ideals, and Dustbringers access greater and greater powers as they progress. Shardblade and Shardplate seem to be constant across all the orders, although it's possible Lightweavers get their blades earlier, depending on how the whole timeline stuff with Shallan works out. Aside from that, I don't think there's a specific benefits for each oath. You get a closer bond with your spren, better stormlight retention and can use the surges to a greater degree, but no real "unlocks". I've said this before and I'll say it again, but I think a cornerstone of the Radiant progression is that being able to speak the ideals, becoming a better version of the ideal Radiant, is its own reward.

It depends on whether or not you have a spren.

It probably matters a lot that Honor isn’t around to keep them on the straight and narrow.
