Minuet spoke up. "No, Orpheus. It's fine, I knew I'd have to go back to my uncle eventually. And Sir Co - Sir Nathaniel made a good point. I'm dangerous to be around."

Sir Nathaniel grinned. "Good, you've come to your senses. Get over here, we're going."

As the soldiers walked her over to Sir Nathaniel, Minuet looked over her shoulder at Orpheus.

And winked.

As the soldiers walked her over to Sir Nathaniel, Minuet looked over her shoulder at Orpheus.

And winked.

Ah, a social cue. Hopefully, he was reading it right.

"Okay. Bye! See ya later."

Okay, Zanidar, he thought, what can you do?

Iғ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴀᴄᴛᴜᴀʟʟʏ sᴜᴄᴄᴇᴇᴅ ɪɴ ᴛʜɪs, ʏᴏᴜ sʜᴏᴜʟᴅ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴘʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴄᴇᴅ. Bᴜᴛ... I'ʟʟ sᴇᴇ ᴡʜᴀᴛ I ᴄᴀɴ ᴅᴏ. Lᴏᴏᴋ ᴛᴏᴡᴀʀᴅ ᴛʜᴇ sᴏʟᴅɪᴇʀs.

Orpheus looked at the soldiers. Nothing happened.

Uh, Zanidar--

Iᴛ'ᴅ ʙᴇ EASIER ɪғ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴇʀᴇɴ'ᴛ sᴏ sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ ᴏғ USING ME! came a threatening, impossibly loud shriek into his mind. Which didn't exactly help.

Suddenly, Orpheus could sense the souls of all those around him... and... he felt a type of power, within him?

Usᴇ ɪᴛ!

Orpheus pushed the power outwards forcefully, draining him of a surprising amount of his energy.

Quote

NOTE (in interest of everyone nearby): This power he feels is a manipulation over fear and purely unsettling. The type that gives you the shivers. And due to the fact it's basically his first time using his powers, he hasn't been able to direct it at the soldiers. So I assume everyone would feel this, and the fear will pass after a short time. Probably enough to bring you to the ground, unless you're real tough.

Minuet felt a sudden outpouring of fear. She dimmed it down, controlling herself, but found herself quivering. The soldiers holding her fell to the ground, shaking, and the others had a hard time staying on their horses.

Tannic felt afraid.

He hadn't been so afraid for years, and the fear seemed to another all other emotions.

And so Talnic used logic. He pushed aside the irrational fear, and turned to Ara. This wouldn't last forever, and they needed to take advantage of it while they could. "Now would be a good time to do wherever it was you were planning," he said softly.

Gal felt a presence of fear creeping in. He would've thought he'd e ready. After all, he did meet a Hyenason once or twice. But this was a little different. He succeeded - barely - to stay sanding, and after flipping a few pages in his notebook he wrote something, with shaking hands. The feeling seemed to come from... Orpheus?

He then considered for a moment. He was practically useless in battle - his magic was far more useful as a party trick, really. But he could try a little Planting. And... he hesitated. Was it fine to Harvest this men of the little intelligence they have? He decided to stick to Planting. He readied himself to when the fight will start.

Quote

By Planting he could make people more curious, or enhance their thought process. He probably will try on Minuet, and she might feel something. He didn't do it, though you can assume he would once the fight has started.

BTW, should we summon Mat, Fadran, Cosmical Existence, Vapor and Salad too? The events (technically) should affect I'll tag them outside.

@Matrim's Dice, @Channelknight Fadran, @The Awakened Salad, @Cosmical Existence, @Vapor.

Ara collapsed to the ground, overcome by an intense fear. Something she had only felt once before. The rune dropped from her limp fingers, and tears started falling to the ground. Ara was shaking, memories flooding back. “No...”

So, yeah... Ara has some past trauma with emotional manipulation magic. This will be fun :D.

Aw, dang it Orpheus!! Watch what you’re doing!!

Orpheus looked around. He had hot everyone, including his friends. Panic set in... what was he doing, controlling the powers of the devil himself... he was pursed, and he knew it. He...

A brief moment of realization hit him as he realized the only person capable of taking advantage of the situation was himself.

He lunged with his knife at Sir Nathaniel. “FEAR ME!” he cried, his voice uniting with the demon in his head.

Things happened so quickly Chrys could barely keep track. The soldiers found Minuet, and then pretty much all hell broke loose.

The figurative turned into the literal as a wave of fear crashed into Chrys. She could barely stay up as she felt the largest amount of irrational fear she’d ever had. She started humming to calm herself down, trying to do anything to keep the fears away. The humming turned to soft singing as she looked up and saw the others in the group who were paralyzed with fear. Gathering up her courage she pushed through the fear, her instincts to protect overriding her negative emotions. I don’t know how well this will work against this, but I have to at least try. And so she sang to the young blonde who was close to tears. She sang a song of strength and courage, a song that would slowly work its way to a call to battle. Faro, let this work.

Two kinds of emotional manipulation in one day... I’m sorry Jester.

Rosalie clamped her hands on her ears, trying to keep the sensation out. She had never felt so hopeless. She slowly sat down, squeezing her eyes shut and taking deep breaths. What was happening?

Gal looked around him, only now realizing the extent of the fear wave. He was worried for a moment that a Hyenason will be able to sense them - then remembered they weren't common outside the mountains. He returned to his notebook for a moment, wrote something and looked up again.

Sir Nathaniel jumped, wheeling his horse to the side. The horse's eyes were wide with terror, and it was one scare away from bolting.

Minuet took the chance. She jumped up and toward the horse, startling it and making it gallop away.

Sir Nathaniel was usually a good rider. The circumstances, however... he fell off of his horse.

Just thought of it: does he have glowing eyes now? If so, what color?

Sir Nathaniel fell off his horse.

Taking the opportunity, Talnic drew his knife and dashed to the fallen man. He planted a knee in his chest and held his knife to the man's throat. "Don't move," he said, then looked up. The rest of the horses had drawn back considerably at Minuet's abrupt movements, and a few had fled with Sir Nathaniel's horse. "Scare the rest of them," he said. "If they resist, kill them." He hated saying the words. But it was his duty to protect these people. For the time being, at least.

Sir Nathaniel's face was red and his moustache had gotten stuck in his armor. "Unhand me, you... peasant!" He gestured toward some of his soldiers, who surrounded Minuet. "We're leaving here with her and you can't stop us!"

Minuet sighed. She'd wanted to keep from using her Grace, but it was likely inevitable. Sir Cocker Spaniel always had been a bit blustery. "Sir Nathaniel!" she called. "If you go now, I won't hurt you or any of your men. Except your pride. Your ultimatum means nothing, because you know that you don't stand a chance against me, especially with the help of my companions. Now leave, and don't come back."

He sputtered. "You can't expect me to - " he broke off.

Hmm... I don’t think his eyes would be glowing continually. This was a very brief connection. If anything, the colors of his eyes would have flashed violet, I think, unless it has to be orange for Gal’s magic assumptions. I don’t intend the violet to mean anything different from the orange, I just wanted violet.

Talnic dug his knife a little harder into the man's neck. "I'm not afraid to cut your throat here and now," Talnic whispered. "I have killed my fair share of men, and ridding the world of one more snobbish lord wouldn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I might enjoy it." Talnic's grip on the knife tightened. He hated using those words. He hated lying. He hated using the deaths of those he had killed to his advantage. He hated saying that he might enjoy killing another. "If I kill you, your men won't be able to find me. I am accustomed to hiding from the law and anyone else who might come looking for me. If needed, I will kill them too. Tell your men to retreat."

Sir Nathaniel nodded somewhat frantically. "Right. Men, leave her be."

The soldiers stepped back, revealing Minuet sitting on the ground casually. She yawned. "All right, Shadow, I think we've scared them enough. What say we let them go?"

"Not yet," Talnic said to Minuet, his eyes not moving from the terrified man on the ground. "Swear to not seek her out again. I will kill you the next time I see you, understand? Have your master send someone else."

Talnic got to his feet, sheathing his knife with no difficulty, despite the slight shaking of his hands.

Sir Nathaniel nodded. "I swear." Surely Lord Leggerio could see reason this time. And if not, he'd just stay back.

"Go, then. Find your horses before they get too far." Minuet stood up and looked to the Shadow for approval.
