Well, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do this. Ara tries to suppress the shaking in her hands, holding one arm in the other, she takes a step foreword, trying to project authority.

”I am Lady Auriel Orius of House Orius, and I take insult at your insinuation that I am a liar! Now, when you go back to your lord, tell him you have insulted an Elevated One so! Now, begone!” Ara winced inwardly. Poor soldier. Hopefully word of this encounter didn’t get back to her family. Ara had gone quite some time without having to run into them.

Rosalie grinned, thinking of what could reside in such an important person's bag.

Minuet held her breath. She'd heard of House Orius, but Sir Cocker Spaniel wouldn't have. All it would do is tell her family where she was.

Sir Nathaniel sniffed. "Oh, really? Shame I haven't heard of you, otherwise I might believe."

Sure.:) That works, and it would be fun for Chrys and Cara to find out that they are cousins of a sort, if that’s ok with you.

Thanks, it would be cool if they found out they were distant relatives. I'm just gonna wait for a good spot in the story to jump in.

So... I got messed up a little. We got back today instead of tomorrow.

So hi!

Talnic stepped forward again, making sure to stay clear of the horse, so he could jump to the side if needed. "Listen, friend," Talnic said softly. "We have seen nothing of this girl you are looking for. Your threats mean nothing. Leave now. Or, I am afraid, we will have to make you."

It wasn't a threat he was all too excited to make, as their small group was disorganized, outnumbered, and he had no idea what any of them were capable of. However, he had to trust that some of them knew how to fight. And he himself was accustomed to taking down armoured men, and he would be able to hold his own, although the horses would make that a little more difficult.

Hello! Welcome back!

I think Nathaniel's soldiers need to find Minuet in the tree. The story's sort of at a standstill for the moment.

You had some of the soldiers move into the trees. Could one of them look up and see her? Or if they have bows or something, if they shot her, it  could make everything more difficult.

That's why I had them look in the forest.

There was a cry from the forest as one of the soldiers looked up and saw Minuet. She cursed.

Ara winced. So much for deception. She started slowly backing away. Seeing Shadow’s aggressive stance, she said “Careful... I mean, try not to kill any of them. They’re just doing their job.”

Then, Ara whispered so that the soldiers couldn’t hear, pulling a rune from her pocket. “Shadow, when I throw this, it will make a big flash of light and sound. Listen for my signal and plug your ears when you hear it.”

The soldiers climbed the tree and dragged Minuet down, pulling her into the clearing. Sir Nathaniel smiled. "Lord Leggerio will hear of this. Both your actions, Minuet, and those of your... companions."

Gal notices how tense is everyone, realizing the situation is just about to become messy. He considers for a moment trying to solve it with a little polite speech, then realizes it's too late for that. He then says: "Gentleman, I believe you aren't fully aware of what you're messing with. We are on a prophesied quest, and messing with a member will end badly. It's not a threat, merely a warning. Be wary whenever prophecies are involved."

Hope this works. I guess Talnic won't like that, but I believe he didn't tell Gal not to talk about the prophecy.

Some of the soldiers exchange looks, but Sir Nathaniel scoffs. "You can't possibly say you want her on your quest. Do you know how ridiculously dangerous that is?"

Minuet shook her head. "Nope, no need to tell them that."

He laughed. "So you haven't told them? It seems the Lady Minuet has no regard for your safety."

"It seems you misundestood me." Said Gal. "This is no mere quest. However dangerous the Lady is, it's more dangerous to act against a prophecy. Surely you know that."

His tone seems to imply he means that even people like Sir Nethaniel must know something about prophecies.

Did Sir Nethaniel ever introduce himself?

Yes he did.

"And what if, by taking her away, I am following the prophecy?"

Gal rolled his eyes. Clearly, this man is an idiot.

"You know nothing about the prophecy. I assure to you that this explanation is highly improbable, but it is, of course, your choice whether to believe me or not. If you follow another prophecy you may well just tell us."

I wonder how long it is before Sir Nethaniel decides to kill Gal because of all the contempt he shows. Almost nothing can annoy Gal more than ignorance.

"I follow no prophecy. I follow my lord, and I'm afraid he has no patience for prophecies."

Apparently, there is no escape from the ugly way. Unless...

"If you pay no heed to prophecies, you must still appreciate knowledge, as knowledge in power. I'm a magic researcher doing research on Graces. I might be on the brink of realizing how to Grace people. Wouldn't your lord be pleased to have more Gracelings to serve him? I can promise not to tell anyone else how to do it. Even if I won't find out how to do so, the knowledge I will gain will be important, I'm sure."

Of course, appealing to the desire of knowledge in such people is stupid, but the desire for power exists in everyone.

"That sounds intriguing. You are welcome to join me, I'm certain my lord would be happy to have you join us. There are other Graced at the castle, which would undoubtedly assist your research." Sir Nathaniel smiled.

Suffering the presence of those people? Definitely not. He did want to question more Gracelings, but one does not simply ignore prophecies. Unless, of course, one was Lord Leggings. Gal gave up. With some people you can't reason. He sighed and backed off, shaking his head.

Lord Leggings. :D

Oh, and I think she's going. But she'll be back soon.

"If there's nothing else, we'll be going now." Sir Nathaniel (who was still on his horse) beckoned the soldiers and Minuet.

She shook her head, digging her feet into the ground. "No, I'm staying."

"Come now, Lady Minuet. You don't honestly believe that they'd want you here if they knew your Grace." Sir Nathaniel laughed. "No, the only one who wants you is your uncle. He doesn't just want you, he needs you. You're family. And honestly, I'd prefer it if I didn't have to hurt anyone today. So here's the deal. You come with me and I won't tell them your Grace so you can come back when you inevitably run away again."

Minuet paused, considering. "Two questions. What am I supposed to do this time, and how likely is my escape?"

"Lord Leggerio assumed that your escape meant you were ready to work again, so you won't be going back to the academy. We're to take you back to the castle, where he can tell you himself. So your escape's unlikely until you've done a couple of things for him."

Orpheus glared at Sir Nathaniel. "She said she's staying."

"My apologies. There are two options. Either Minuet can come with us of her own free will, or she can fight back. I assume you would fight with her, but we are mounted, carrying weapons, and larger in number than you. Do you really think that'll work well for you?"

Orpheus pointed at the dead bear carcass nearby. "I'm not known for making smart choices, but... uh..." Shoot. Where was he going with that? He felt kind of awkward now.

Wʜᴀᴛ ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴅᴏɪɴɢ? asked the voice in his head, curious. Aʀᴇ ᴛʜᴇsᴇ ɪᴅʟᴇ ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛs, ᴏʀ ᴅᴏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴀᴄᴛᴜᴀʟʟʏ ɪɴᴛᴇɴᴅ ᴛᴏ ғᴏʟʟᴏᴡ ᴛʜʀᴏᴜɢʜ? Wɪʟʟ ʏᴏᴜ ғɪɴᴀʟʟʏ ᴜᴛɪʟɪᴢᴇ ᴍᴇ?

Orpheus remained silent, and drew his knife. "I can see you won't relent with this... kidnapping. And so I fight beside her against you."
