Orpheus hesitated, looking to Talnic. Awaiting a response.

Talnic sighed. "He said he'd talk to you later. Wait back with the others."

Minuet huffed. If they were going to have a secret conversation, they may as well include her. It was important for her to be aware of the situation, it kept her from being surprised. And she didn't like being surprised.

Avren’s plant was dead again. He knew as soon as it died, his sense alerting him to the death.

It had lasted two months this time, which was pretty good. For him, at least. He really did try to keep it alive, but no matter what he did, it always ended up as a withered, brown husk. This time he could ascribe some of it to the cold weather and travelling.

What am I even doing here?

He froze momentarily, staring down at his tiny dead plant and wondering if he would soon be the same.

With effort, he brought his focus back to the present. Everyone else seemed distracted by something up ahead, which meant it was the perfect time to do some... healing.

He held the pot with one hand and brought the other to rest on top, shielding it like a dome. He closed his eyes and reached out with his mind. This wasn’t evil, he told himself. He was doing something good, giving this plant another chance.

There it was, empty of life force. He began to pour his own into it, feeling a slight tingling in his hands. It was only a small plant, so it didn’t take much. He felt the roots uncurl, the green bleeding back into the shrivelled leaves. He opened his eyes and removed his hand from the top of the pot, revealing a healthy, green plant, just as had been on the first day he had received it.

Satisfied, he stored it back in his pack. It wasn’t the best place for it, but he didn’t want to risk it getting damaged out in this weather. He hurried to catch up to the rest of the group.

I just thought your plant died again, so you wanted to pass your feelings somewhere, but well, I've been wrong before.

"My abilities. I don't know where they came from, but I can read minds." And use telekinesis, he thought, but didn't say.

"Stay out of my head," Talnic whispered. "I will not be asking politely next time."

He had too much at risk.

Traige nodded somewhat vigorously. "Absolutely. I can exclusively search, so I only found your name, as a sort of joke. Again, I didn't know how much that meant to you and I apologize."

He looked back at the others. "Where are you going with this group, anyway? Something about a dragon?"

A joke? How had that been a joke of any sort? Talnic pushed his annoyance to the side, hoping that Triage would keep his promise. There wouldn't be any way to be sure, however. He hadn't felt a thing when Triage had found his name.

"Yes, we're going to find a dragon," Talnic sighed. "Every once in a while, I will give a prophecy, and then... This happens. I think one of the people down there has copies of it."

My explanation beginning after the intro scene:

Talnic (Tesh) was sneaking around a school in Zemel 'cause he likes swords or something and Orpheus (me) was sneaking around as well. We met with Valzwyn (Fadran) and then Talnic vomits upon us a prophecy (I'll edit it in after I post this) about finding a dragon (see name of RP if unsure of how this is relevant to plot). We all go, sure, why not? But we're a little loud and we get a load more people joining in, next day we meet together to get supplies. We got supplies. Character interactions x17. We just walk off. And we've been walking for a little bit now, potentially coming up on the next town over. The dialogue you see above is ourselves discovering someone who was eyeing us and now they're being introduced to the story.

You can find the prophecy and all the different characters in the Google Doc that I linked to on the first post.

Memory listened to the three conversing away from the group. The newcomer wanted to discuss matters outside of Ara’s hearing. “Ara,” Memory whispered. “I’m going to go listen to what they’re saying. They could be dangerous to you.” “What, no! That’s rude!” Memory had already taken off. His physical self stayed in place, cast as a shadow of Ara, but he quested outward with his true form, the one that lingered in another realm. He moved his awareness to the group of three, and listened.

Quote

Traige may be able to sense Memory, I’m not sure about how his exact powers would interact, here. Memory is basically a cognitive shadow in Cosmere terms. He has a reflection in the physical realm, like a spren from Roshar, but the bulk of his self in in the cognitive.

"No, but I got the gist. Someone showed up who knew their names - I think, at least - and maybe he wants to join our group? Not sure on that count."

Avren nodded. Someone who knew the Shadow, perhaps?

“So, how’d you end up here?”
