*quietly* I didn't mean to scare you...

Do you want your character to go find Talnic in the courtyard? If you've got something else planned, I'm good to go with whatever.

I didn't have anything planned.

Valzwyn decides that, if she wasn't going to be getting any more sleep, then she might as well see what all the commotion's about. She slipped her spellbook into her satchel and made her way outside.

Eɴᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴜɪʟᴅɪɴɢ, Dᴀʀᴋᴇsᴛ Oɴᴇ.

"Why?" Orpheus whispered. "I'm not going to use our powers. I'm done with you."

Tʜᴇ Cᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛ ɪs ɴᴏᴛ ᴏᴠᴇʀ. Yᴏᴜ sᴇʀᴠᴇ ᴍᴇ.

"You rarely speak to me. Why--"

Dᴏ ɴᴏᴛ ǫᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ ᴍᴇ. Gᴏ.

And so Orpheus pulled back the iron gate and slipped inside stealthily, still unsure what he was going to do. But he was bound to certain wishes of Zᴀɴɪᴅᴀʀ's, and this seemed to fall within his criteria.

As he made his way through the school--following the promptings of the demon towards the clashing of swords and clamor of students--he thought about what it meant that Zᴀɴɪᴅᴀʀ was speaking to him again. It had been only a week this time since his last contact. The demon was becoming more and more active within his mind. When he was younger, he would only stop by every few months or so on random occasion. But now it seemed he had been speaking to him at least every week now. What did it mean?

Orpheus gasped when he saw the fighting. He had seen others use magic before, but never battle. The students used magic from nearly all varieties Orpheus knew of. And their skill with the sword... oh, how he envied that. He had mainly only trained with his bow, for hunting, but he had gotten decent with a knife, for taking out beasts that had gotten too close.

The sword was nothing like wielding a knife. The students danced elegantly in the firelight, and Orpheus watched, mesmerized.

A few of the students closest to him noticed him, however, and their eyes darted back and forth from him to their opponent. Of course his curse would reveal him. He was about to get out of the school when he noticed a tall man in a dark coat and a wide-brimmed hat on the other side of the courtyard. Orpheus noticed he was hiding a large sword beneath his coat, and it looked as if he didn't belong there.

Okay, I really want to get into this already but my post was really awesome. So pretend I posted something awesome about fighting a dummy by herself in a separate courtyard, not wanting to hurt people for her uncle(and not having to because she made a 'mistake'), being left out because her Grace is dangerous, and lots of berating herself for being dangerous. Feel free to join me if you want to.

Talnic cast a glance out at the sparring student, an odd sort of melancholy settling over him. "Watching something that is a part of me for what might be the last time," he said. "But I don't belong here. I am leaving, now."

He pulled his hat down a little ways and made to leave, but stopped as he saw a tall teenage boy step out into the courtyard. He was around Talnic's age, although likely a few years younger. The boy was looking directly at Talnic.

Brushing his coat to the side so he could easily reach his sword, Talnic glared at the kid. "Can I help you?" he asked, ignoring the elf for the moment.

The man still glared at him, and Orpheus took a deep breath. Man, was he intimidating. Orpheus was surprised to see that he was a little younger than he had originally thought, but despite that, he still looked like he could easily take out Orpheus if he needed to. And that sword was menacing.

And it seems the voice that had gotten him here had fallen silent yet again. Well, if this didn’t go how he wanted, he was just going to have to deal.

Orpheus cleared his throat and decided to play the role of a student. He was young enough, right? “No, just admiring your sword. Any idea where I could learn to wield one of those things?”

The kid was trying to hide something. And he was doing a terrible job of it.

"Listen," Talnic said, taking a small step forward. "If you want to hire me, just tell me. I'm not doing anything else at the moment, and depending on pay, I'd be willing to do just about anything short of murder. If you're just here to annoy me, I'm leaving now." The kid seemed young to be tracking him down, but it wasn't implausible. Talnic himself had started dealing with various underground crews when he was fifteen.

Talnic's vision began to fuzz. He let out a small sigh, closing his eyes as his senses began to abandon him. He felt his mouth moving, but didn't hear a sound. There was no pain as he collapsed, crumpling to the wooden walkway.

The moment he was able, Talnic forced his eyes open again, and pushed himself to his feet. "What did I say?" he demanded of the elf and the human in a forceful whisper. He'd learned years ago to not dismiss his prophecies, and to show no weakness in the moments after he gave one.

Anyone have a good idea for a prophecy?

Thanks! I wanted to try something different than the typical evil necromancer thing, and it may or may no be inspired by the fact that one of my plants is dying right now and... Sorry, I’ll stop subjecting you to my rambling :P

Aw, ten year old me would be having a field day coming up with a prophecy. Hmm... maybe it could be related to all of our characters meeting? That would be doable and wouldn’t stifle any unexpected plot developments.

I am not Tesh but I invite you in. We've barely started, I think. Only four out of nine characters have made their way from a character sheet into the world thus far.

I can't write prophecies. I've tried and failed many times.

So... Any volunteers? I'll do it if no one else wants to, but...

Probably something that would prompt a quest or something. Maybe dragons? Dragons would be good...

"I... you..." she gulped. "Nothing."

Talnic closed his eyes. "Please," he said, trying to soften his voice. "Tell me. It's very important."

Should he tell her why? No, not yet. Not unless she still  refused to acknowledge his ravings.

He'd have to leave Zemel behind for a few years before returning, to make sure that rumors of the prophecy would fade.

Exasperated, Talnic stepped forward, towering over the elf. "It was a prophecy, and when I ignore them, things tend to go downhill very quickly. Now, tell me what I said. I won't be asking next time."

Talnic hated threatening violence, but the last time he'd ignored a prophecy, an entire village had nearly been burned to the ground.

Orpheus interfered. "Listen, listen, it was something about fire, and dragons, and the call to... something or another..." Orpheus's memory faltered. He had trouble remembering any exact wording, as Orpheus was too frightened by the strange, trance-like rhyme.

I ᴋɴᴏᴡ ɪᴛ.

Orpheus flinched, but managed to regain his composure. He glanced back from the elf to the man, wondering if either had noticed. And then his demon began to repeat what the man had said. Orpheus repeated the words back to the man as he heard them.

Thanks. We're at a high school/academy in Zemel right now, idk where Traige is but he could potentially be a student or have taken up residence after being driven out of a nearby village. We've also still got Minuet in a training grounds next door we have to pick up somehow.

Talnic grimaced. Of course there would be another quest. And of course he would have to find another dragon. He hated bothering the creatures, and they hated being bothered, especially by people who wanted to kill them. At least he knew how to properly interact with dragons to avoid getting incinerated.

But "To mount a strike..." Hopefully he would be able to avoid attacking a dragon, and get away with just some of its hoard, as he had done in the past.

The line where it said that others would be going as well, though, that bothered him. The prophecy hadn't specifically mentioned Talnic himself, but each and every one in the past had ended up with him involved in some way or another. And he'd have to do whatever he was supposed to be doing with other people. And knowing the prophecies, it would be the people who had heard the prophecy in the first place.

"So," he said slowly, letting his hand drop from his sword. "How do you two feel about hunting down a dragon? I think that there are others who we will need to find, as neither of you are dwarves, but that will happen eventually. We need to take the first steppes, and the rest usually falls into place rather quickly."

He hated the stupid prophecies.

His demon clammed up again, but Orpheus didn’t need him to know what he was being commanded to do.

Hunting a dragon? How were they supposed to go about that, much less even kill the thing?

And... who was this man, who spouted prophecies on a whim and then demanded you repeat it back to him?

But Orpheus knew he had a task to complete, and it would be much easier with this man on his side.

He looked over at the elf from before. A student, it seemed, dressed in... well, the style seemed distinctly elven. Orpheus had never understood elven culture.

Suddenly, Orpheus noticed that the prophecy had drawn the attention of many of the students there. Sooner or later, someone in charge would notice that they didn’t belong there.

He turned to the others. “Um... mind if we bring this conversation one training ground over? I think we might’ve been noticed...”
