TalFidelis Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Been lurking in the various subreddits for a while, just started digging into the coppermind (cheated and used the coppermind Stormlight Summaries before RoW - I had just re-read everything over the summer, but wanted a fresher refresh :). Someone mentioned the 17th shard on Reddit and I don't know how I didn't know about this site. Also - just finished Dawnshard after getting it as a backer for the WoR leatherbound. Eagerly awaiting RoW... 1
Scout_Fox he/him Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) Welcome to the Shard Tal! So happy to have you come join us! A fresher refresher is perfect before RoW so awesome you've been enjoying the Coppermind! And man, that's the second Reddit rec join of the day delighted to have you here! Backing the Kickstarter was the perfect way to get Dawnshard I'm exactly with you there! And totally on RoW, where's that time machine when we need it What's your favorite Cosmere series? Hope you have an excellent time on the Shard and let us know if you have any questions! Edited November 12, 2020 by Scout_Fox
TalFidelis Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 Thanks for the warm welcome @Scout_Fox. Favorite Cosmere series... definitely Stormlight. But I gotta say, before joining reddit I didn't get the full picture of the Cosmere... so after rereading all of Stormlight... and I just finished rereading Mistborn Era 1 and am reading Era 2... picking up on all the Cosmere references is awesome. I would NEVER have picked up any of that on the first read throughs. Even though I read Warbreaker before Oathbringer, I missed a lot of the connections there (not Sword-nimi - that one was easy) - but after my reread over the summer the connections there are so fun. And having just finished Alloy of Law - I clearly need to go read White Sand (which I haven't done yet). I'm going to need to take a week off to read RoW, and re-read everything else I haven't re-read in the past 6 months (my wife is gonna kill me)! 1
Scout_Fox he/him Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 You are so welcome delighted to have you join! I would totally agree on that Stormlight favorite as well, the world, the characters, the magic, it's perfect! Yess! Finding all of those references as you group through is the absolute best. You start reading and your just like "woh, there's a lot more book here than I thought" It's literally what makes the Cosmere so amazing too is that everything new gives so much more meaning to everything old. It's like the MCU and other top franchise universes you constantly are unraveling all the details and it is so fun to spot new ones along the way! And yes, that sounds like the absolute perfect week (that is if you make it out alive )!

Took me three times through before I felt confident that I had spotted all the connections. For me the big inflection point was Mistborn: Secret History. I didn't even bother to finish Arcanum Unbounded, instead I immediately went back and reread all of Mistborn Era 1. So worth it. Of all the crossover events/ references to other worlds, which one keeps you up the most at night thinking about the implications?

Anyway, if you were to make the most ridiculous prediction for rhythm of war (that does not elude to things that you have read in the preview chapters or Dawnshard) that might come true, what would you predict? (No need to say why)
I Am A Fish he/him Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Hello, and Welcome to the Shard! Who's your favorite Sanderson character?

Daggon - It may not be a huge thing (or it might) but it's the Vasher/Zahel and Vivenna/Azure thing. Why did Vasher come to Roshar? How did he lose Nightblood/Sword Nimi? Why is Azure hunting him? What will happen when she realized he doesn't have the sword? And what else is all behind that that makes these questions the wrong ones? Oh... and the WoB where he mentions "space age Cosmere"... !?

Though when they meet up again, if they aren't completely on opposite sides (which they are at the moment), would Kaladin have to protect him according to his Oaths? I have avoided the preview chapters to have a pure experience next week! 1
