Chorale winced. Her lock picks had fallen out of her sleeve.

"Well, well, well. I guess I can probably free your head now."

Aerith scampered dextrously along the ridgeline, grabbing any handhold he could find.

Jane lowered herself to the ground, following the source of the sounds. She approached a ledge where she saw the fire-eyed mercenary moving across the ridgeline. She considered her options and her orders. She covered her ears and tried her best to look like a weary traveller. She then stood up and entered the Fire-eye's view.

"Ho there, Traveller! careful around these parts!"

You know, now that she's hanging upside-down with her lock picks gone. ^_^

Chorale cursed. "Mother of Crystals!" She slumped in her restraints.

Kade grinned.

"Would you like to escape now?"

Jane responded quickly.

"They call me Vulles. Come traveller, it's not safe out on the ridge!"

"We're just looking for something. I lost a trinket of mine in a cave around here. You wouldn't happen to know of any nearby caves, would you?"

Chorale glared at him, and if she had been able to, she would have folded her arms.

Kade purred loudly.

"I dare say, today has took a turn for the better."

"I know a few traveller, but be careful, I've run into many Amal's out here. I guess I'm just lucky enough to be here to tell the tale."

"I can handle a few Amals. You said you knew some caves?"

"Yes traveller, but I must be making my way back to town. I can point you in thee right direction if you wish."

Aerith is relatively good at discerning actors from real people. How good is Jane at acting?

Chorale closed her eyes again, pretending to go to sleep.

"What do you think of your brother?"

Kade stared at her, curious.

Val edged forward, recognizing Jane. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "Why are you pretending to be someone you aren't?"

Jane points down to where she came from.

"I just came from one down there, although I didn't see any trinkets traveller. There are two more farther down that path if you want to keep looking that way."

It's Jane's specialty. She's no Shallan, but she's quite skilled at it.

Jane turns and recognizes Val. She started to speak without missing a beat.

"Oh Val, it's good to see you! You see, the people in the settlement prefer to call me Jane, they don't like calling me Valle for some odd reason. Out here, I prefer Valle."

Aerith glances between Valerie and Jane, mental gears working as fast as they could. He raises an eyebrow.

"You look like you've been traveling for days... and if you've been traveling, then why are you going towards the village rather than away from it?"

Jane paused for less than a second before speaking, trying to get a way out.

"I find that there are many pieces of the wild that I can't find in the settlement. Besides, my old Gramps needs me to visit him, so I can't stay out here for long. Although I really must go, it has been a pleasure meeting you traveller, and good to see you again Val."

Val looked suspicious for a moment, then decided to play along. "Of course!" she said, trying to signal to Aerith that they couldn't trust her.
