Corwin bolted, feet slapping against pavement, laughing loudly.

"Corwin!" Cadenza sent a sheen of ice across the pavement and rose to her skate blades in one graceful movement, leading to a step. Soon, she was swiftly gliding toward Corwin. "Stop right there!"

He disappeared into the mouth of an alley some twenty feet ahead. Jeez, he was quick, like a little rat.

Finn dropped in front of Corwin and put a hand up like a traffic cop. "You need some medical attention, and as Brother Sparrow is with the other guy, you're going to the hospital. Don't make me drag you."

Cadenza slid to a stop just behind Corwin, blocking his other way out. "Ha! Now you're going to get some proper medical care."

There was some kind of manic frenzy in Corwin’s eyes, a cold sweat on his skin.  He didn’t seem able to stop laughing, his skin in goosebumps. “No thanks,” he said.

"You don't get to say 'no thanks'. Your arm is hurt!"

Janice grabbed his hand. "And you're all sweaty and gross!"

Corwin pulled his arm free of Janice abruptly, as if she’d just tried to cuff a shackle to it. “Leave me alone!” He shouted, directly in her face.

He shrank back, stunned at his own words, at his anger. “I’m sorry.  I’ll be fine. Just no doctors.  I’m okay.”

"But you won't be fine! That's why you did that!"

Finn nodded. "Look, honestly, I'm new here, but I've served in a lot of settings and I know someone in need of medical attention when I see one. Just...it's fine. Go see someone qualified."

Janice shrank away as well. "N--no."

Corwin flinched. “Look. I’ll be okay. I can take care of myself.  Honest.”  He started patching himself up with his sleeve, as if to prove it.

"No, sleeves aren't sanitary either."

“Then say that you told me so to my coffin,” he grimaced, exasperated. He kept wrapping his arm, nice and snug.

"Hey Corwin," Janice found herself asking. "What happened to your parents?"

"Probably shouldn't ask that... especially when we're trying to convince him to get medical help."

Corwin grimaced. “I don’t care. Like I said, I’m a street kid. They didn’t care about me, so I don’t care about them.”
