He positioned himself in the person's--a young girl?--path, concealed.

The colonel and his men were catching up, although they were still a short ways off. The soldiers hesitated as another figure got involved, but the colonel pushed them forward.

Cadenza sighed and launched herself toward the others using a growing ice pillar. She caught herself on a slide and skidded to a stop about fifteen feet away from them.

Cadenza made another pillar, this one completely straight, and watched as Janice and the other person walked away.

The colonel bellowed at his soldiers, "open fire! Take her down!" Bullets tailed after Trace with little regard for whoever got in their way.

Cruz led her behind a few restaurants near the shore until they reached a junky backyard. He slipped down a concealed entrance into a small underground cavern.
