Copyright Policy

I need some help searching WoB. I am considering writing a book, but I have a question. What is Brandon’s copyright policy, and what would y’all consider “okay” to use? I am obviously not going to put a big destructive storm in my book, or 3 distinct realms, but I might want to have a universe and center it around a number. Thoughts?

i think he just has some terms and symbols copyrighted.

the terms Mistborn, Dragonsteel, Cosmere, The stormlight archive, and most of the symbols throughout the books are also copyright.

but anything else should be fare game.

 

well, its not like the idea of 3 realms, is unique to brandon. you could use that if you wanted(given you add your own twists)

even a massive storm. Brandon pretty much just took a hurricane and made them magical and more common(im sure you could think of something like that)

Centering around a number on a universal scale for your books is too general to really be copyright, so it should be fine.

Even if what you're writing is a part carbon-copy of Brandon's, he's too nice a guy to sue you anyways.

I've had similar fears, but Brandon once said that he feels authors worry too much about being derivative.

I can't find it right now because the Arcanum hates me.
