"I was; I'm just not the kind of person that stands out."

"Oh. Sorry."

"If it's any comfort to you, then you can rest assured knowing that no date we'd have together would be... like the stuff you might've had to do."

"Thanks.  I figured that out shorthand, though.  All of you, you're good people."  Martin makes a vague gesture encompassing the tent.  "But still.  Thanks."

"It's fine; I'm used to it by now." Enter went back to making blueprints in his notebooks in Ancient Terris.

Craven looked over the man's shoulder. "What's that language? It looks weird."

"Would you like a hug or something?"

"That would be really nice, actually."

Channeling Kindness the hugspren, I see.

Gosh, I want a hug now.

Ayia wrapped him in a hug.

Martin hugs back.  It feels nice.  He hasn't been hugged in a while.

I absolutely will.  I'll buy a plane ticket to Utah if I have to.

"Ancient Terris. It's an old Scadrian language that not many people know anymore."

Though some people do know it. (Marasi, Bands of Mourning, chapter 12.)

"Scadrian? Is that like... South, or something?"

We seriously need to coordinate something at the next signing. I'll make it work. I'm only 1,000 miles from Utah, I'll start walking now if necessary :P

"How much have you had to put up with, exactly?"

"Depends on what you mean.  Urban's the worst, no sightlines.  Too many civvies, too many buildings.  Open, you've got no cover, but nobody gets hurt 'cept yourself.  As for missions with people."  He shakes his head slightly.  "I didn't break my hand and get the bone structure reinforced for nothing."

"I mean... what things have you had to do? What kind of life were you forced to live?"

"Wasn't so bad.  Had a roof, had regular meals.  Soldiering's rough work, yes.  But you don't get much of a choice these days."

"Scadrian, meaning pre-Final Empire, as far as I know. Early Final Empire at the latest."

"On your missions, I mean. What... friends did you have to leave behind? What morals did you have to forget?" Her tone had turned dead-serious; desperate, even.

Camelia snorted. "Well you wouldn't. This isn't Scadrial. This is Sel. They're different worlds."

Enter forced himself to reevaluate. "Scadrial is another planet, and Ancient Terris is an old language from the northern part of it."

"There was Mica.  And Chrissa.  Sniper and shrapnel, respectively.  As for morals... I do have some backbone.  I made sure they knew my limits.  After the third mental breakdown, they wised up and kept me on the intel side of things.  But yeah.  I... I killed people who didn't deserve it.  I'm not proud of it."

Craven's mouth dropped open. "Another... planet? Can I go there?"
