"Simply relax the bonds of your withergeist and let its influence flow into your target. It will pull the life from them to feed itself- and, in turn, you."

"My hubris?" Jeffery scoffed. "How the pot screams... First, are you even going to listen to what I'm going to say, or will you completely ignore my words in favor of your own worldview like you did last time?"

My voice lowers and softens. "Do you wonder why I kept these a secret. This is why. I do listen and will continue to listen. I care about your daughter. I do not want you to be the reason that something happens to her."

"Very well. I'll say this once." Jeffery's gaze intensified. "I don't want to do it alone. I don't intend to do it alone, and never did. I would be a fool to turn down help from anyone willing and able to provide assistance. Can you comprehend that?"

Psyder seemed surprised. "Why not?"

"Well, they're... that's not right." Herate pushed on her side harder.

"They will die anyways," replied Psyder. "Their injuries are too severe. Might you not as well give their death purpose?"

Herate chewed on her lip, then gave in. "All right, all right. It'll make it stop?"

The shadow chuckled. "Not what we want from you, child... what you want from us."

"So have you finally decided to reveal the way in, or are you going to continue to stubbornly hold onto it?"

"I don't need anything from you."

My softened gaze meets Jefferey's fiery one. I don't back down. As much strength as he is projecting in anger I am projecting in something far less harsh and scathing. "That's not enough, but it will have to be for now. If we are going to help you then you have to let us. Each one of us will have to play a role. Yours will be crucial. However, I don't think that it would be wise to have you on an assault force to rescue your daughter." I turn to Fadran. "This will have to be voted on of course." "I turn back to Jefferey.

"We've already decided that we're going to save her; no doubt about it. We just need some volunteers."

"I did not doubt that we would save her the question of whether or not it is objectively a good idea to have her father on the front lines when we do is a different matter."

"Yeah. We're at a huge disadvantage, which is why I'm getting Ayia to throw together an elite squad. Marching an army up a mountain is hard. sending a few well-trained warriors up a mountain? Not so much. They'll be hard to detect, difficult to counter, and easy to maneuver. We'll grab some enemy watchtowers, position our troops on the high ground, and reconfigure our plan from there."

"Hmm," said Fresco. "Is there any way I can study the enemy? Books, battles, etc.?"

"I wouldn't know. I haven't been on this planet for very long."

"Facing an unknown enemy is defeat," said Fresco, "When you know your enemy, then you've as good as won the battle."

"Because you don't think I'm capable enough?" asked Jeffery, irritated.

Fresco sighed.

"Anyone that could give me a quick recap on how this all started? You showed up here, decided to overthrow the government, and the government is trying to deal with that?."

"We had a friend who was in charge of this revolution, but she was captured by the enemy. For some reason, she chose to leave me in charge, so I'm doing the best I can."

"There is more to it than that. Your emotions are going to cloud your judgement. You are so consumed by anger toward Rish that you may very well making a critical mistake. Emotions are important, but if they are going to impact your judgement then they will be a liability to us all."
