"You saw me.  I may be the best where I come from, but no one on that planet, including myself, is any sort of magic user.  Immediate mile-wide gap there."  The closest they have is techwebs, and those things are painfully finicky.

"So... what. You work you life away becoming the best there is, and apparently all that is just useless because someone happens to be born with magic?"

Andante walked over to Martin and Ayia. "So... you guys were looking really good."

"Well, she was.   I looked like a monkey with a bionic tail."  Probably worse.  A monkey can learn to use a bionic tail.

"No, you looked awesome! It's obvious Ayia's awesome, but really, all you need is a couple of lessons with her! Nice simile, by the way."

"Pretty much."  He's no use if he can't beat an opponent.

"Hey... pal..." Ayia dropped a hand on his shoulder. "You're staying on my team. I'm not gonna let you drop out because you think you're useles.."

"I didn't say anything about..." no, he did.  "I," he tries again.  "Uh."

What does he do.  He doesn't - how does this work?

"Well... you did good." She gestured vaguely at his book. "You should probably get... reading."

Ayia walked off and sat down on the nearest stump, catching her breath.

Fresco picks up the book. What a strange title. He opens the book to find that most of the book is blank, except for some pages near the front.

Fresco! Hey, it's me! Well, actually, I am you. From the past. Anyways, you might be confused if you're reading this and have a lot of questions. Like, where am I? What is going on? Who are these people I am with? What happened to my memory? Why can't I remember anything before this? Why...

Fresco skipped several paragraphs of example questions that he might have.

Well, I know the answers to all of them! Well, maybe not all of them. The last few were a little confusing. Anyways, I can help you! This kind of thing has happened before, and you wrote this book to help you remember. I recommend you keep reading, sorry, you like to go on tangents a lot. Trust me, the following pages are much more concise. I hope. I haven't written them at this point yet but I will soon, just as soon as I finish talking about... what was I talking about?
Oh, yes, this kind of thing has happened before.

Fresco walked over to where the other people were. He still didn't know anyone's name.

Oh... whoops. That was a kinda critical error.

"Tongue-tied? Don't worry; most guys do that around me. You're not the first."

(I still think it's funny, Martin still hates it.)

Seeya!

"Hm? Stop flirting? That'd be like asking Fadran to stop smiling all the time." She stretched. "Well, anyways... think you could've beaten me if you and Fresco had coordinated a little."

Just now, Knight of Iron said:

"What is your name?" Fresco asked randomly.

"I never told you? I'm Ayia."

@Chasmgoat

Fresco nodded and said, "I'm going to read a little bit more. I don't know why I stopped."

Keep his brain outta the gutter, though. Gutterthoughts are no bueno.

Fresco skimmed through the book for the next few minutes. Despite all the promise of information, it didn't actually give him too much information, but the information it did give was valuable.

His name was Fresco Ferraro, and he was some kind of military soldier from a world called Ricora, which the book seemed to assume he was still on. Apparently on some kind of periodic cycle, the inhabitants of Ricora would experience a form of amnesia. His past self was concerned because the extent of the amnesia was historically very limited, but it seemed to be growing stronger and stronger. There was a time when one would only forget the past year or so of their life, but the cycle was getting faster and faster and stronger and stronger.

@Chasmgoat

"I... don't know how to work with a team... I never had the need to." N'Fehn looks at the ground, ashamed.

hehe... This is a slightly strange thing since he never mentioned his name had an "N" prefix. Where he comes from, Prefixes are assumed based on their base name, clothing, build, and voice. So, That's why he keeps calling others "Q'Fadran" or something like that. He says his name is Fehn and in his world, others would naturally call him N'Fehn. If they were wrong, he would correct them, but normally it is obvious to them. So... yes, you may keep the N out of the name. Although, he is very slightly insulted each time someone doesn't use it, but I do think he understands these people don't know as they don't use prefixes
