Ok, I couldn't quote your post because it was in a quote box, DramaQueen, but I wear pink on Wednesdays too.

We should skip over it and just have Enter say that we're there, I hate long car trips. :)

Yay!!

Hmmmm... I was thinking more along the lines of progressing certain arcs? *hint hint wink wink* *cough*queedran*cough*

Spoiler

I swear I'm not usually this weird.

At least I don't think I am...

Am I usually this weird?

Is this weird?

Am I anything?

Do I exist?

What is the meaning of life?

*questions everything*

Spoiler

Yep, I'm weirdly weird.

I thought we were already doing that.

Well, yes, but I meant like...more than just awkward conversations and stuff like that.

Then proceed, Queen, because Fadran ain't gutsy enough to start one of those on his own.

Queen ain't either...awkward conversation it is! Ooh, or we could have like a mental conversation or something? I feel like, since it's just thoughts, that'd be less stressful...?

Are we seriously planning this? If it's going to be awkward, then there should be no planning WHATSOEVER.

Fadran clears his throat. "So, uh... Queen. Uhmm... learn any new magic things? Recently?"

Good point.

"Not really. I can feel the capacity and abilities, but I'm afraid that if I experiment more, I'll end up bringing myself close to death again." Queen replies stiffly.

Also, Condensation, I can't quote you since this is an edit, but would Herate do that?

Well, she's missing Daolan hard right now, so she'd try to make others as happy as she is when she's with Daolan. Believe me, I've thought and noted every aspect of Herate's character.

"Then, ah..." Fadran tries to steady his awkward-itis by pulling into a subject he knows all too well: magic. "When you have a form of magic that comes from a variety of different sources, then you'll occasionally find sources that are ludicrously powerful or incredibly lame. The way your magic works, you should be able to test a source before actually using it, and prevent yourself from... well, dying."

Ok, you can do that subtly if/when you see an opportunity. Don't make it too obvious to Queen and Fadran what Herate is doing, though, I want it to be mostly them.

Noticing that Fadran was loosening up, Queen managed to pull herself out of her "brick-wall mode," as Journey had called it. "What would you say are my sources? I feel like it mostly pulls from my own abilities, is there anything else that you've noticed that it draws from?"

Tchanta?

Yes, my queen?

Have you noticed anything...off about Fadran lately?

Tchanta didn't respond, though Queen did receive a feeling that portrayed a similar message as a knowing smile.

HAPPY things. What do you like to do?

They both have pretty powerful powers, are adventurous, I think they both like the outdoors, (I know Queen does,) they both like to explore...? I came up with a bigger list than Fadran did, do I win?

"I wouldn't know, but I suspect that wherever there's something to be experienced, there's a source to be found. Emotions, in particular, are probably the most common sources--in fact, I bet if you never knew anyone who studied magic as much as I did, those would be your only sources. I imagine that emotional sources provide one-dimension, single-layered magic; real basic stuff. You might be able to compound emotions, though that could be really dangerous if done incorrectly. Compounding positive emotions like happiness and pride could provide some really powerful results, but compounding negative emotions like sadness and anger could provide some really dangerous results--the confusing muddle of negative emotions will confuse you and... possibly kill you dead."

Queen's first thought during Fadran's explanation was that Journey had studied magic extensively as well, then a chiding for comparing Fadran with Journey.

"So, is that why I nearly died when I enhanced you during your battle with Jaxevist? (Is that who it was? I'm too lazy to go all the way back.) Do you think I might have compounded sadness and anger, or maybe worry?" Queen blushed as she realized that she admitted that she was worried about Fadran, then got mad at herself for overthinking her own sentence. Of course she was worried about Fadran during the battle, they all were! She kept her face forward, hoping that Fadran wouldn't notice the emotions that must be bleeding through her mind to her face.

Did that "bleeding through her mind to her face" thing work? I've been trying out new phrases lately. (My favorite is "weeping bullets," talking about a gun firing. Unfortunately, I am not currently writing, nor am I planning on ever writing, a book with guns.)

"I couldn't tell you, but it's possible. Negative Emotional magic isn't the only way to knock yoursel out; if a source is powerful enough, then as untrained as you are, it can overwhelm you." Fadran stretches. "If you'd like some informal training in this kind of thing, then in theory I might be able to help."

I think it worked. Trying out new phrases is one of my favorite things to do. (Though the weeping bullets thing kind of downplays on the power of a pistol; I personally like the terms "unloaded a round" or "hammered away" or simply "pulled the trigger")
