Ok this is like when you're learning some dark mafia secret as a volunteer FBI agent but the immature kids are off messing around in the corner and it's really hard to feel cool

Vale leads the party into the city proper.

"Look out for any motorcycles, they'll hurt if they hit you. There should be somewhere around here we can go without attracting too much attention."

The room fades away around me. I am dropped back into the bleak realm known as Shadesmar. What has he done? By the ancient gods he will suffer. A heavy wind starts to blow as my rage rises. A wave of heat flies across the landscape setting it aflame. Mighty rains begin to pour from the sky beating back the flames in moments. I tremble uncontrollably. Rage rears its head and fills me. In a moment I am drowning in it. I withdraw into my mindscape and immediately begin to lash out. I tear elaborate pillars from the ground and toss them aside. They shatter into fine mounds of dust. Walls come crashing down as the mindscape begins to fracture. Dust flies everywhere as fissures appear in the fabric of the construct. In a flash I am in my throne room. With a thought my throne explodes violently in a hail of shrapnel. Defeaning booms saturate the air. Bolts of lightning fall and scar every surface. My breathing becomes a staccato. My vision goes dark as I pull all of the light from every corner of the mindscape. The ground begins to shake.

Two shimmering glows appears in the dark. They struggle as though against an invisible wall. Impatience emanates from them. Beams of power fly from them, but they vanish before they can have any kind of effect.

"Enter with my permission." My bellowing voice overpowers the rupturing which is taking place. I stare into the dark vowing to bring death to whomever has dared disturb my destruction. I call my blades of light and advance toward the shimmering.

Before me two women bearing twin spears appear. There is an inevitability about them. The one on the right holds an icy spear whose head is covered in wicked barbs. In the hands of the other a burning lance sends out an eerie aura which would cow most into submission.

I stop, but raise my long swords. "Mes. Met. I guess the crone sent you to discover why the mindscapes tremble?" I make the lightning rain down faster. Greater winds emerge at my command. "Go back to her and tell her that I have been angered! I am going to tear this and ever realm apart until I have my vengeance!" Gusting hands grab them. They are unfazed.

"Don't be a fool." They answer in unison. Smooth unforgiving voices echo over the noises which seem muted by comparison. "She knows what you intend to do and you will be punished if you try."

I clench my weapons in a vise. "Will you stop me. I was old when you were young. Will you lecture me? You know well that you cannot stop me. We all have what to atone for your mistress most of all. My enemy will be judged. He took something important to me. He took her against her will. For this even the gates are too good." Screams from other realms can be heard.

Panic appears in the twins' eyes. "We wanted to stop you, because we know that you are relentless. We care about you Nath and we don't want you to be destroyed. She will come for you if you continue of your path." They cringe as the shouts grow louder.

"Let her come. I do not fear her. If she tries to stop me she will die for her crimes."

Their eyes go wide. "Our mother can be persuaded. Don't do this."

"I must. Now go in peace." With a wave of my blade they vanish from my realm. I take in a deep breath and the realms cease their disintegration. I blink and I appear before the elaborate enchanted prison gates. I'm coming for you Fox. The ancient gods watch you Winter, because you are mine!

Winter smiles.

"That's right, Fox. Now come, let's leave this demon before he can hurt you further."

The dingy apartment room melts, the sides folding in on themselves.

The Fox was laying in a bed, Winter standing over her.

Her wound was tended to.

And Nath was nowhere to be seen.

"Oh, Winter." She said with longing and contentment. She could feel herself beginning to panic again. "I-I can't remember exactly, but I felt so terrified. A hot tear slid down her cheek. "I didn't know if you were going to come."

She gazed up into Winter's face, the placid features calming her. "But everything's okay, now that you're here." She tried for a small smile. The Little Fox reached her hand up to grasp his. "Will you hold my hand?"

"...Yes, of course. But be warned, they're not exactly soft."

He took her hand, then stopped, his eyes growing distant.

"You remind me of someone."

The Little Fox grasped Winter's hand tightly with her own, regardless of the cool of the metal, never wanting to let go. "Thank you, Winter." She whispered. "Thank you." The Little Fox closed her eyes.

The growling gales bow before me. They prostrate themselves and pause their paths. Bolts of lightning are paralyzed in my presence. Freezing driving rains part before me. By my will the defenses of this realm come to a standstill. I clap my hands and the runes on gate glows, but does not budge. Invisible chains appear as I concentrate on them, but other than that nothing happens. She wants proof of my broken vow so be it. I raise my head skyward and bellow in a voice that shakes the gate. "I Nathrangking, the appointed guardian of the gates Gareshusir, Warden of this Eldritch Prison of the Ancient gods, protector mindscapes demand that you open! I command you to obey! Open for your master!" The tongue of the ancient gods sets the door alight with power the chains melt away while the spells around the frame and upon the door vanish. With all of the speed of light I am through the gates after it had only opened a crack. With a thought. Stay your course. The doors stop. I stand in an endless expanse in the heart of a realm beyond all realms. The ground is barren and the sky perpetually both icy as well as burning. I raise my voice over the winds which blow. they slow for me. "I the gatekeeper call before me any who desire freedom." The winds carry my voice for miles and leagues shouts, roars, screeches and other manner of cries erupt. Tens of thousands fill the air with a cacophony. I raise an eyebrow as two appear as though from nowhere. They are in shadow though the light of the day is mighty.  It would figure. Winter, I pity you. "Mars. Ares. Eager are we?"

A deceptively deadly voice whispers from one of the figures. The tone did nothing to betray the fact that he is a god capable and willing to obliterate regions at will. "Why have you come?"

"I offer you a freedom of 1000 years and all that you must do is find me a certain angel."

Third times a charm. Fish tapped his iron metalmind, shooting a coin at Taln, then reduced himself to 1/30th of his original weight, pulling on the coin, flinging himself forward, and back onto Taln's ear. While at ten times his original weight.

Queen, after being annoyed and exhausted by the trouble that the fish and Taln were causing, turned back to Jared. "So, are you going to help us get our friends back? Or are we going to have to fight you...again?"

Seriously, can we be seriously somewhat serious? There's kind of some cool stuff going on...I don't want a fish landing on my head and ripping people's ears off and stuff. Fish, you're welcome to join us, but try to keep it somewhat story-oriented. It started out as just "Do whatever, I don't care" but I think Fadran said/agreed that it is definitely a story now, and the "random" attitude has dissipated a bit. Your whacko fish would have fit right in at the beginning, but now, it's morphed into more than that. (Everyone else, please correct me and forgive me for being salty if I'm wrong. This thread is just basically my favorite thing on the whole Shard and I don't want to waste my time on it if it isn't as enjoyable anymore.)

I agree. The lack of serious tone was reserved for earlier. At this point flippancy throws everything off. Queen you don't have to apologize for wanting us to tell the best kind of story that we can.

You're fine!!! Just try to be a bit more serious from now on. Fish can still be a rather silly character, just try to have the silliness fit into the story. Thank you!
