Mat he/him Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 I am on book 8 (Please no spoilers for future books) and so far it has been... boring. Basically everyone is politically talking and marching and so far nothing really has happened. So I was wondering, what is everyone's least favorite and most favorite books? I'll go first: (Again subject to change as I'm only on book 8) Favorite: Lord of Chaos (6) Least Favorite: The Path of Daggers (8)
Shard of Reading he/him Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Anything past book 7 I can't stand. (Except for the parts with mat in it) until the towers of midnight. My favorite is A Memory of Light. That books is flat out awesome. I would go on a rant about why it rocks but if you are anything like me you can't resist clicking spoiler tags so I won't say anything. 2

That's what I was afraid of... so I get 800 x 4 pages of bleh. fun. Also: When you said 'go on a rant' I immediately thought 'go on a rand'
Ammanas Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 My favorite is a toss up between 2,4 or 14. My least favorite (and can anyone argue against it?) is, of course, Crossroads of Twilight.
Mat he/him Posted May 25, 2020 Author Posted May 25, 2020 I feel like all the middle ones (8-11) are 50% walking, 45% talking, and 5% important stuff 1

I'm on Path of Daggers as well (again) after having to restart because I completely lost interest. It was just too bland.
Truthless of Shinovar he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I honestly can’t remember what happens in which book, but the one Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler /2 books where it’s just Perrin trying to get Faile back is pretty boring. My favorite book has to be either Gathering Storm or Memory of Light. 1
Purple he/him Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Oo, forgot about that one that Truthless mentioned, would agree with that sentiment. But I think it is either 11 or 12 (I think it is 12, working my way through a reread so hopefully will get a refresher soon), that was just a slog to read through. It was rough even for me, and probably the only book I have had to force myself through (even though I remember the climax being SO rewarding because of it). Aside from that, the last few books during Mat's POV is my weakness, and Memory of Light or Crossroads of Destiny would be mine.
Jaywalk he/him Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 It's a tossup between A Memory of Light and The Gathering Storm for my favorite. A Memory of Light is the big payoff for so many things and it's freaking awesome, but the ending of The Gathering Storm affected me in a way no other moment in the series did. Least favorite...Crossroads of Twilight. So boring. 1
Mat he/him Posted June 8, 2020 Author Posted June 8, 2020 Oh great, that's the next one Actually tbh, Winter's Heart hasn't been that bad. I am only 150 ish pages in though, so that could easily change.

Why didn't Robert Jordan tell me?

I love Lord of Chaos and can't stand Path of Daggers. I hate that Mat isnt even in it 2

Espically with what happens to mat at the end of the Lord of Chaos Edited July 9, 2020 by Shard of Reading
Bondsmith30 he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Favorite: The Shadow Rising, followed closely by A Memory of Light. Least Favorite: Path of Daggers...when they talk about the slog, it's really this book...Crossroads of Twilight is realllly close, though.
Dunkum he/him Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Favorite: Dragon Reborn, btu the next 2 or 3 after that are pretty good too. Least: Path Of Daggers, for the reasons already mentioned. Eye of the Word and the Great Hunt are close behind though, at least partly because Mat isnt a perspective character in them either. I'm in a bit of a weird position, though: I got The Dragon Reborn for christmas one year, but neither of the first 2 books. after at least a couple tries to find them at the library, i gave up and just started in with book 3, so by the time i got back around to the first 2....they felt boring.
Poi Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Favorite: Gathering Storm with Memory Of Light close behind. Least favorite: Crossroads Of Twilight, although, in my opinoin most of the middle books, (6-10) with the exception of Winters Heart and maybe Lord Of Chaos leave a little to be desired
chongjasmine Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 My favourite book is the eyes of the wheel. Reason: It is where the story begins. Least favourite is crossroads of twilight, literally nothing happened.
TacoBellChoutaMeal Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 The Feds don't want you to know that The Great Hunt is actually legitimately the best one and that Lord of Chaos is actually the start of the slog. "But Dumai's Wells!" Yeah, Dumai's Wells is amazing. That's one of the best parts of the entire series. But it's the 5 minute "best fight scene" that someone uploaded to youtube that you searched up because you didn't want to sit through 2 hours of mid movie to get to one fantastic fight scene. Nynaeve is bored for the first half of her plotline, and I was too. It's the best of the slog, but it's still the slog. Gonna make an even more controversial opinion here and say that Crown of Swords is actually the worst one because of how insulting that ending was.
Qianweilian He/him Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The best: Knife of Dreams, The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight The worst:
Through the living Wahr He/Him Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) I am in the middle of Fires of Heaven and its the one I like the most so far, with the others It always took a bit to get really into it, but not this one. I also like Shadow Rising, especially the end was also quite good, I liked Perins storyline in the two rivers and am dissapointed that He hasnt appeared in Fires of Heaven yet. But Eye of the World, Great Hunt and Dragon Reborn, were also not Bad I would say. Edited January 21 by Wahrheitswächter
