Regardless, I doubt Cassie has reasonable access to liquid nitrogen. She works with metal; she’s not a full-on chemist, so I don’t know if she could actually get that working or not. She probably understands supeconductors worse than I do.

On one hand, she could have a reasonable access to liquid nitrogen since in real life you can buy cooking liquid nitrogen for about 10€ before taxes and it's necessarily cheaper for professionals.

On the other hand, every known -200°C superconductor is a ceramic so you would need Topazes instead of Amethysts to make them anyway :)

Also yes, you cannot turn something superconductor with electricity

"So I have... a commission for a Stormlight-shifting device, a potent magnet, and maybe a Steelpush device."

She looked up. "Any other devices that you have that you think a metallurgist would be interested in?"

"Oh you are the metallurgist, you tell me if you need something else," He smiles kindly, "I will see what I can do about those commissions, It caught my interest too!"

“Those two should be my only commissions,” Cassie replied. “That and a  powerful magnet are all I can think of at the moment. Neodynium, if you have it.”

She looked back at the shelves of devices. All of these things, and she was buying a lump of metal. An important lump, but still a lump.

She walked over to the shelves. “Do you think you could show me what some of these do? I’ve never seen any before. Something may catch my interest,” she said, looking back at Lord. “Suprise me!”

"Alright," Cassie replied, watching Lord run to fetch a fabrial. She hoped that he could find something interesting; she knew little about the actual design behind fabrials, but she'd heard that they could do almost limitless things. Soulcasting was just a piece - a very important piece, yes, but just a piece. And fabrials run with Epic-made gems. Interesting. That means Soulcasting with it should actually work.

Nothing much else to do, Cassie looked at a shelf of what seemed to be more fabrials, careful not to touch any by accident. A small one with two rubies strapped to a smokestone caught her eye. It didn't seem to have much of a function, but fabrials often looked that way. I'll have to ask Lord about it when he gets back.

I just kinda want to see what random inventions there are around here, as opposed to something specifically requested.

Cassie stretched out her arm, showing the large Soulcasting fabrial wrapped around her hand. "It has various sizes of crystals, but generally I can make anything shaped like a clip, mark, or broam work just fine." The gemstones he had certainly looked real enough.

"By the way," Cassie asked, gesturing with her free arm toward the strange fabrial on the wall, "What do some of these do?"

IDK how big Soulcasting gems are, but I think Cassie'd be resourceful enough to manipulate spheres to Soulcast things. She could also likely Soulcast the glass to mercury to extract a gem. Messy, but effective for her purposes.

Cassie reached for a gem that looked like it would fit, carefully pulling it from its fabrial. She akwardly transfered it to her gloved left hand, then replaced the empty amethyst in her caster. She reached out over the pencil she had discarded, shut her eyes, and took a breath.

And focused on the ideal of Copper.

She felt the pencil change, and she opened her eyes to a metal orange pencil.

She grinned. "Oh, I think this will be a very profitable arrangement."

Cassie looked back at Lord. "What was our original agreement? A regular supply of amethysts from you, a regular Soulcasting commission from me? I believe that will do just fine. Perhaps we can add this-" she gestured to the smoke-detecting fabrial "-and some other special fabrials and a Soulcasting you'd like done to celebrate a deal?"

I've had to remove some posts here because Grammarly and the quote boxes horrifically do not mesh. Sorry about that. Please disable Grammarly on 17S.

Now it looks like I quadruple-posted. Although I met the head Admin, so I guess it balances out :P.

TLDR, Lord went to find an amethyst that had Stormlight, found one in a fabrial that had been made by an epic, and showed me a fabrial that's essentially a smoke detector and absorber.

Thanks chaos, those posts did look horrible, and i could not even edit some of them.

again thanks.

also...

can't you disable grammarly for everyone?

I don't think you can just adjust the website's code to disable it, since Grammerly to my knowledge just functions as a browser plugin, so as the website you can't unless Grammerly exposes a specific toggle/variable that does it, or you need to create some weird custom text input box Grammerly can't recognize.

"OH! how great!"

"I really thought these gems would be useless."

"As for the deal, we would need to further details, but i certainly agree."

"I already have an idea of what i would need for that first Soulcasting..."

Again, sorry i am late.

Can we have some sort of blackout like this?

Cassie and Lord discuss and haggle a bit over the desk, only friendly extortion.

Eventually, they reach a more or less profitable agreement...

Sure. So long as Cassie gets enough amethysts to Soulcast on a regular basis, she's willing to give up a lot. Although "willing" and "wanting" are two different things. Just ask/PM me if you want anything Soulcasted (or come over to my shop!) - or just say that I turned it to metal at some point.

"That sounds like a deal," Cassie replied, beaming. "If you ever need something Soulcast, just come over to my shop. I should have a business card... somewhere..."

No, she had given out her last ones out in the party. And she had turned her pencil into copper. She hunted through her satchel and found another, then quickly scribbled down an address. "Just come to here!"

She shook Lord's hand, then hauled her new smoke-detector fabrial and small bag of amethysts out to where her cart was waiting. Hopefully Lord would have her two commissions done soon enough - neither were terribly important, but she was sure they would prove incredibly useful for a Soulcaster.

"It's been a pleasure doing business with you!" she called out after him, then departed, humming happily to herself.

So Lord doesn't have to ask me each time

I will come to your shop to install the smoke fabrial, to deliver one of the commissions and ask for that one free soulcasting you promised...

Hm, where do i find you? does your shop have a thread?

@Ashbringer

That 'Poller' had him interested.

so devote to the shop, looking for his master's interests... he seemed hardworking and competent

he should get himself someone to tend the shop while he was gone. he currently used a piece of paper saying: be back soon, don't knock the door the few times he left the shop.

and although he did not get any customers, it was still distracting to have to talk to whichever passerby that entered, or newcomer asking: Is this Cassandra's metal emporium? and Oh, sorry then, can you tell me how to get there?

Yes, and an assistant would keep the shop tidy for him... he was messy by nature, but liked to see everything in place.

this was the most evident when there was an important customer such as...

damnation, i spaced out again.

"Pardon me, I was only thinking. I have no fixated price for this fabrial."

There, good pick up. now she knew he was willing to bargain.

"Figure, it was surprisingly easy to get hold of it! A friend of mine owed me a favor and went all the way to Roshar to get one."

"It is also surprisingly easy to get currency in the cognitive real over there."

"But anyways, I think i have settled, this is an important device, but it came to almost no cost to me. I am sure we can agree among the lines of 300 Chrysts?"

How did I not notice this... sigh, I'm sorry.

"Hmm," Cassie said, shaking herself. "300 Chrysts sounds perfect. How large of a device is it? I'd prefer for it to be portable, if possible."

I actually expected you to haggle a bit:P

300 seems way too much, considering that your aluminum armor is only 150.

but hey, i dont mindB)

also, i think we should put a shroud over how the device looks, at least until it is cannon.

"small enough, let me show you, it is back here."

"it is a bit heave, but small enough to carry, you will see"

he heads into a small room.

Cassie noticed a strange look on the man’s face. Perhaps he wished for her to negotiate a better price. Well, she thought it was fair. If it held up, it would become such a huge improvement to her business, not having to scurry to find a new infused amethyst when one cracked during a Soulcasting.

Lord hurried into a room. Cassie took a step to follow, then hesitated. She didn’t know exactly what Lord-son-son-Silberfarben did in here, but she wasn’t sure if everything was... accessible to the eyes of curious shoppers.

Mike clutched his bag to his body hurrying through the streets. His stepts were fast, so fast he was nearly running, trying to get away as far from the Hospital as possible. Something about that place creeped him out, despite the fact that he had managed to grab some pain killers that could come in handy at one point or the other. Maybe it was a haunted place, full of the ghosts and screams of those in some of the wings, those that were so crazy that you needed to lock them away.

He was more comfortable outside, picking a pocket now and then, helping clueless festival visitors to lighten their pockets. This was where he belonged, where he was comfortable. He should have sticked to it, should have avoided all other places. Opening a larger pouch he smiled in delight at the amount of spheres that were waiting for him inside of it. They would get him a nice, cool beer and something to eat as well.

His hands loosened his grip on his bag when the weird feeling that had haunted him ever since his visit at the hospital slowly faded away. It was a good night. He had enough money for food, he had gotten his hands on some sweets and even some medicine. The rest was nothing but his imagination running awry in his head. Better to focus on what was real. Humming to himself he turned into a smaller alleyway. There had been a tavern somewhere around here. He had visited it now and then, remembered that their beer was fabolous.

Mike didn't bother to read the sign above the door, knew he was entering the right place. He had grown up in these alleys, had run through them ever since he could walk. Finding one of the cheap, but good taverns was easy.

"Hello." he greeted the guests and the inkeeper as he stepped into the room. "I would like to have a cool beer and some stew." Only then did he realize that he wasn't standing inside of a tavern. The room in front of him was unorganized, full of stuff and dominated by a large desk. Freezing in place he tried to fit the image of a nice and cozy tavern, a place where he had drunk several times to this mess. He couldn't. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

Another customer!

he rarely had two at the same time, in fact... he rarely had any.

He put on his best face as he ducked his head through the door, still struggling to drag the box across the floor.

Wait, what did he say?

something about...

a bull? a deer? then he asked for something else too?

His hearing was indeed restricted by his head apparatus; he would need to fix that.

"Hello, is there anything i can do for you? I am sorry I did not hear you that first time."

He looked at Cassandra, and waved at the box.

Cassandra whirled as the door to Lord's shop opened. A man stumbled in, asking for a tavern or a beer.

Cassie took a few steps back. She had no idea who this man was, but her first impression wasn't great.

Lord-son-son-Silberfarben drug a box over to her. Cassie opened it, looking at the semi-complicated fabrial within. It wouldn't be portable, but it would do well for her Soulcasting. Cassie fished out the 300 chrysts, then went to hand them to Lord.

Well, she wouldn't be able to drag the whole box back to her shop. "Do you have a cart or something that I could rent?"

Posted

"oh, no need, the device itself has wheels," he struggled and pulled it out of the box, "It was in the box for safekeeping."

he shows her the wheels and the handle.

Posted

"Ah," Cassie said. She hadn't noticed that before; it was a clever design for transport. Cassie looked it over, then took the box and re-covered the device, leaving the wheels open and cutting a hole for the handle with her pocketknife.

"Now," she asked, ignoring the new 'customer', "do you need anything Soulcast for me?"
