That saves Althea the time of searching for him. Because as it is right now, it's what she'll do. She can be a tad idealistic sometimes.

Screams and flames both resounded within the building, and Max ducked, kept low to avoid the smoke, steadily rising as the flames consumed more and more. He watched Althea try to talk to the Dustbringer, tears in her eyes, and he coughed, leaving the hole and running from wall to wall, trying to find any sort of alarm system, any sort of sprinkler. Again, he summoned and thrusted Sethramir at the flames, but the wind made everything worse. It enraged him, to try and help and make everything worse. Is that what he’d done by being here.

No, you’re Rioting him, he thought, coughing again and making sure to keep the Riot strong. It steadily consumed his metalminds, but now Althea was there too, saying something, and Max couldn’t let go while she was around that Dustbringer. He stopped at a wall and an emergency fire extinguisher in a glass case. Animal impulse and desperation overcame him and he punched through the glass and snatched out the extinguisher, letting loose on the flames. But he knew that while he could fix up this floor, there were still all the other ones above him.

A flash of anger going through them he clenched his fist and made the Rioting stronger, threw his mind against the Dustbringer’s in a full mental attack as he tried, in vain, to extinguish all the fires. How dare he? How dare the Dustbringer waltz in on a celebration night and create all this chaos? Make these fires, bore a hole through this building. This night, of all nights. When he was done with this floor he summoned Sethramir in one hand and wind-boosted himself up the next, repeating his manoeuvres.

I’m trying to reduce the fires, he said to Althea, grateful he could speak without opening his mouth and letting in smoke. But you need to stop him before he makes more. Take him to Shadesmar, drown him or something. More anger bled into his voice than he liked and when his fire-extinguisher ran empty, he through it against the wall and ran to find another one. Remembering he targeted Althea too with the Rioting, tried to enhance calmness, but he knew with all this fire there likely would be nothing apart from trauma to even Riot in her.

Brin cursed loudly into the open air as the Dustbringer disappeared into the ash and dust he had wrought.

Suddenly, fire. Fire crawled up the streets, choking and burning, cinders falling like glowing rain.

"Damnation Dustbringers!" Brin exclaimed.

Then, floating in the air above the city, he noticed the female Radiant from earlier.

"Mate!" he called out to her, and lashed himself in her direction. "Where's the Dustbringer!? The Damnation city is in flames!"

Don't worry, it's only one building ;) Setting the whole city in flames is something more of a main plot. I'll wait for Ash to post first, as Tyrian's actions will determine how long her reply to Brin will be and what she'll say.

Vivi moved a little backwards, when the weird man stepped up to her, grinned his scary, twisted grin. Reval was angry, she could see it, hear it in his voice and that scared her even more. This was supposed to be a good night, a special night. Time for her to spend with him, to eat sweets and to jump over fire. Not to discuss these things. The man made her feel as if she needed to run, to flee, but they were trapped in the bubble.

"I'm not." she hastily shook her head, despite the copper burning inside of her. "I'm noone special." She inched closer to Reval, grateful when he took the conversation over. She had hoped to distract the man so that they could run, but instead he had slowed down the time around nearly completely. Even if their parents were close, they wouldn't be able to help them. Not like this.

"Rainbowglow is special." she hastily added, "she's magical and beautiful, strong and never gives up." she started to babble. "But then she has to be, or she wouldn't be Rainbowglow. Nobody is as special as she is."

Falling silent she shot a glance at her brother, hoped for some guidance, for a plan to get them out of here.

Liam burned steel. He still did not completly understand how he did it. He was still trying to get used to the feeling it gave him.
"Hey! What's going on here?" He asked. He had seen the fire from a couple blocks away and came to investigate.

"A bad case of arson?" Mari asked as she walked up behind him. She had heard the commotion, and decided to come this away as well after failing to find the DA members who she had sensed alleytravelling a while ago. She was wearing a simple Spymaster constume, a suit, bowler and monocle, with an iron bracelet on each of her wrists to give the illusion of an iron feruchemist. She looked quite calm, though every so often she glanced into a nearby alleyway, trying to spot the thing she had seen moving in there earlier. Not the best place to be using her abilities, if it was still around.

"It has taken a while though," she joked. "I had expected the arson to take place earlier, judging by previous festivals. Still, better late than never, I suppose." She studied the building, trying to figure out what was going on. It didn't seem as if there were any residents, though at least one person was going to get an unpleasant surprise when they returned from the festival. Someone was screaming, though it didn't sound as if they were actually scared, which, given their situation, showed they were either very powerful, or very delusional. Knowing this place, it could very well be both.

Something cracked within Tyrian.

For an instant, he froze in place, the tunnel’s expansion ceasing before him. For an instant, his rage was replaced with a calm sense of dread, of broken hope, of feelings of inaction that he could barely describe to himself. For an instant, Cinder faded from red to nearly shadow, a look of shock and horror on his face.

For an instant, Tyrian’s body was not his own.

The instant, however, passed.

Cinder reappeared as his normal self, a look of concentration on his face. “The bond. Focus on the bond. It gives order and it gives power. Focus!

Tyrian’s mind returned to the tempest. Stormlight blazed. Wrath burned. Dust billowed. And Tyrian....

“AAAAAAAUUUGGHHH!”

Tyrian slammed his fists into the sides of the walls of his stone passage and finally released the storm. He felt cracks within the rock from the force of his Radiant, Blessed blow. And Division widened those cracks, creating holes, gaps, crevices, caves.

Perhaps it would bring the whole block down on his head. Perhaps it would merely give him... options.

Tyrian replenished his drained Stormlight. He was nearly out; aside from his final stash, he only had enough for two more feats of Radiance: two more battles, two more buildings broken, two more foundations split.

Well, if those interlopers want to fight me, they’ll have to come to me.

And Tyrian continued to burn through the stone, away from the ones who were trying to steal his mind.

Is there anything of importance below the Alleycity before I break into it? Because I may have just created a minor cave system.

There are a few cave systems, but you’d have to go somewhat far down before encountering one, and...I’m not sure if TUBA’s are still there in this timeline, considering that they didn’t have a need for them. You’d find the sewers before anything else.

As Ene said, the first thing you'll find is the Sewer System. It's a maze with at least two levels. It's mostly used by gangs and/ or criminals and some parts were refurbished into underground living spaces. In E3 we also created a thread for it, as a plot happened there.

==============

Althea listened to the Dustbringer, heard his noises grow quieter and quieter until he was gone. She sagged down, remained lying on the ground for a moment. Her thoughts whirled around, memories of smoke, of pain and fire mixing with the smoke and the orange light visible through the hole in the ceiling above her.

Someone was shouting, calling out to her, but she wasn't able to grasp the words, heart still beating far too quickly, lungs working hard to get any air inside of her body at all. She knew that her body was covered in cold sweat, but couldn't bringer herself to care about it, nor about the dirt on her cloths or the crack in her mask. It wasn't important. Nothing was important. Nothing, but the fear the smell, the sound, the colours of the fire so easily woke again.

It had been months since she had been hit like that. Ever since speaking her last oath she had been more or less in control, had accepted it all as a part of herself. But then she hadn't ended up in a burning building either. Again. Like a vicious circle she always ended up in the same spot. Again and again and again.

It took her a while to summon the strength to push herself up to her knees, only managed when a sliver of calmness rose withing her chest. Like a flower trapped in a strom it shivvered, but she reached out for it, pulled it close. Max. It had to be him. Crawling over to a nearby wall, she noticed that the stone was slightly warm to the touch, but ignored it for now, pulled her legs up to her chest and rested her forehead on them. Breathe. Slowly, deeply. She could deal with this. She had dealt with it for so many years, she wouldn't fall back to the point when there was no way back, when she needed some medicine to keep her thoughts, her mind straight, the panic at bay. Tapping a tiny bit of stormlight she used the familiar feeling to anchor herself, held on to it. Concentrating to breath she stayed where she was, trusted Brashen to warn her, should she be in danger and focused on nothing else but calming herself down, slowing her heart and breathing, stopping her hands from shaking that much.

In and out. In and out. In and out.

When she opened her eyes again, straightened she felt shaky, slightly distached from her own body. Empty. Getting to her feet she shook her head, tried to clear it, to focus, avoiding to look upwards towards the flames. Vaguely she could remember a man calling out to her and looked around, tried to see him. Nobody was close, even Max had left, probably fighting the flame or evacuating the building.

Leaving one hand on the wall closest to her she slowly walked towards the door that had been carved into the side. The third Radiant was outside, plus two other people she didn't know.

"He fled." she stated her voice sounding flat, careful to avoid looking up at the building behind her. "I think evacuating is more important." Although she wasn't entirely sure how she could do that while avoiding the flames. Tiredly she removed the remains of her mask, used a sleeve to roughly clean her face.

He's gone. I'm outside. she sent to Max along with a wave of gratefulness. Without his help she would have taken hours to snap out of it.

Max nodded, though he knew Althea wouldn’t be able to see it. Smoke was everywhere here, but the bigger flames had been taken care of. And the rest - the professionals, the fire department or whoever else would deal with it. But the building was safe, mostly, and there was no risk to any of the tenants... unless that Dustbringer returned.

Gone, she’d said. Max hummed to himself a little, happy that his Rioting had helped her, and began to make his way down the building, staircase after staircase. He could have cut a hole in the side and jumped out, cushioned his fall with wind, but although he knew the gist of Sethramir’s wind-controlling powers, he wanted to practise more in a controlled environment before doing anything too complicated.

Gone. Max suppressed his anger with relief at Althea being outside and safe. He doubted the flames would be able to harm her physically, she was far too capable for that. But he knew how she got around fire. He’d need to thank the other Radiant who’d helped... even if it had ended up with them driving the Dustbringer into this building. Finally he rounded another corner and walked out of the building’s main doors, crossing his arms and walking towards Althea. She looked exhausted.

We’ll find him eventually, he tried to reassure her. He can’t run forever. For a second the mission-oriented mask fell, his words about the Dustbringer feeling empty when he finally stood next to her.

“Are you okay?” He asked, his voice slightly hoarse because of all the smoke, and he cleared his throat.

"He's fled," the Radiant woman said, voice flat. "I think evacuating is more important." She removed her mask.

"No," Brin said. "No, no, I can find him. He's not gone forever."

Brin knew it was futile. He just wanted to live for a few seconds longer. His arm had just finished repairing itself...

Trill buzzed disappointedly in Brin's hand, and Brin dispelled him. Trill went back onto Brin's arm.

Brin sighed.

A man came around the corner, his arms crossed, face somewhat sad for the Radiant. He went to stand next to her.

"Are you okay?" he asked, coughing the smoke from his lungs.

"Mates, this is no time for a moment," Brin said. "We do need to evacuate. I need someone to help me get civilians to safety."

"Mates, this is no time for a moment," Brin said. "We do need to evacuate. I need someone to help me get civilians to safety."

Althea suppressed a smile at his comment. Compared to some other situations this one was nearly perfect for a moment. Nobody was trying to kill them, nobody was holding one of them hostage and nobody was blowing up the city right here and right now. She touched Max hand softly with her own, reassured herself that he was here, real, and not some trick of her mind. His skin was warm and she turned her head, looked into his eyes for a moment. Reaching for their bond she let him see her turmoil, the brittle balance that allowed her to walk, to think again, the way she held on to his calmness.

Turning back towards the Radiant she focused on the topic at hand. "I think I know how to find him. Either by following him through the tunnels, or by asking around - there was a man here earlier, who appeared to know him. Maybe he has some clues." she informed the others, still not turning towards the building. It seemed as if she would have to do that soon enough.

I'll need your help. she added for Max. If I am to do anything but break down again inside.

"But for now, evacuating is more important. If I remember correctly most of the staircases should still be sound, and if not, I might be able to take care of that." She opened her bag and looked inside. Her spheres were dark, but when she felt inside of her bracelet she touched Investiture. Not as much as there had been to begin with, but enough to support a little getting these people out.

Realizing that they had skipped something else she inclined her head in greeting. "Let's start with this. I am Althea, and this is my husband Max. Who are you? I don't think we've met before."

Posted

She chuckled, and Brin rolled his eyes.

She sickeningly turned towards the man she that had come, and Brin nearly gagged as the lovebirds stared at each other. Brin had no problem with romance, he'd had one or two himself, although he wished he didn't have to watch other people.

"I think I know how to find him," the Radiant said, turning to Brin. Either by following him through the tunnels,or by asking around - there was a man here earlier, who appeared to know him. Maybe he has some clues. But for now, evacuating is more important. If I remember correctly most of the staircases should still be sound, and if not, I might be able to take care of that."

She turned towards Brin, and nodded in greeting. "Let's start with this. I am Althea, and this is my husband Max. Who are you? I don't think we've met before."

"We haven't," Brin said, removing the mask which obscured half his face. "I don't think so, at least, it's been years since I've gone to Urithuru. M'name's Captain Brin Flightless. Y'can call me Captain Flightless. Pleased to make your acquaintances, but I think we should evacuate just about now.

Large, burning debris was starting to fall from the building. Brin hoped no one was around.

This had been a storming eventful night. Brin would have a great story to tell the crew once he got back to Shadesmar.

Tyrian slipped through a crack his pulse of anger had created. He had found some sort of sewer system beneath the city, and it seemed to lead for a long ways. It would be a good place to run, to get away.

He sniffed. Smelled awful, though. Cinder started whiring around, sparks trailing from her fingers. Of course he would love this place.

Tyrian started into a jog, slipping one sickle from his back sheath. He wouldn't have time to go for anything less than a killing blow. He needed to run, he needed to hide, he needed to flee...

Flee what?

Suddenly he froze, watching as Cinder lazily whizzed around to face him, smiling. "You finally figured it out, didn't you?"

"One of them... they did something to my mind, didn't they?" Tyrian asked.

Cinder's smile widened. "Yep, you did figure it out. I'm so proud."

Tyrian growled, turning to punch the wall of the pipe. He left a dent in the stone. "I can't fight that. Not all at once. I need to wait, to not be so exposed, to..."

He needed help. Someone who could plan, attack, and someone he knew he could trust enough.

And, he knew someone who owed him something much more than he was asking.

He started down the sewer pipe, heading toward where he thought the outskirts of the city lay.

He needed to find Silas.

Lita had to utilize the majority of her espionage training to avoid breaking out into furious giggles, instead waiting for Resh to finish his third introduction with a quiet smile on her face.

If only every man were so genuine, she thought with both amusement and longing, memory straying to Kaldemar and the covered patio barroom. I'd know every last thing in this entire city within a fortnight.

"No apologies needed," Lita said, grinning. "I'm hardly some noble lady, after all. Just someone who's tailor owed her a few favors."

She tapped one slender finger against her upper lip for one moment before continuing. "As for my night, it has been... unpredictable, shall we say. And yet, the night is still new! All these people, all the lights and music - there is just so much to see and to do. Planning for the Festival is all well and good, but everyone knows that all good plans fall to bits after a few drinks and a turn around the bonfire. Better to expect nothing, and let the night unfold as it may. I find that the city is far more willing to divulge its secrets when you least expect it."

Some of that was true, at least, though even as she spoke Lita had dozens of DoCI personnel combing the city, waiting, watching. Knowledge was power. But in her experience, going with her instincts had always been the wisest course of action. Following that boundless, insatiable curiosity had led her to her current position, after all. The sensing, the capturing of a secret that no one else could find - that was a pleasure that only a Tineye could truly appreciate.

"I like to wander on nights like tonight," Lita said. "You meet so many interesting people." She gestured towards Resh. "I'd invite you to accompany me in my wandering, but it would be terribly unladylike of me to suggest you leave your friends."

"However, we've already established that I'm no lady," she said, one corner of her mouth hooking upward into something lovely, but sharp. "So, the offer stands."

@Fatebreaker

Resh stammered for a response, trying to form coherent sentences. "I, um, so, just, er, well." He stopped, and took a breath. Vic was a cool girlfriend, but even so she probably wouldn't be a fan of him taking off without a word. Especially with someone dressed so, um, confidently. Not that there was anything wrong with a confident woman, he loved Vic's confidence! Besides, it's not like she was flirting with him. Was she flirting with him? Or was that presumptuous on his part. He realized he still hadn't said anything and rushed to fill the silence, "Thank you for your proposition, but I should probably check on my friends. Not that I think you're propositioning me! I mean, not in the other sense. Not that I wouldn't be flattered, of course, oh rust and blood what am I saying?" He was blushing furiously , and was positive the heat of his cheeks could power a small stream engine. He gave one last effort to save his strangled pride by smiling and saying, "Anyways it was lovely to meet you I hope you have a lovely evening good night." The words came out in a single breath and he turned around and walked into the hat shop, stuffing one of the remaining bao into his face as if to dam the flow of idiocy that poured from it.

Silas sat on a balcony overlooking the rowdy partying in the streets below, leaning back in his chair and sipping slowly from a cup of coffee. He waved his hand and calling his Servant forward, a thin and limber construct with a sharp mask walking forward. "Search the streets and bring me the man who is called Tyrian, my rescuer." The Servant nodded, and walked away, the face on its mask whirling and changing from that of a human to that of a hound, shoulders widening and back curling downwards into a stalking pose.

However long later, the Servant approached Tyrian, extended a long arm and pointed at him, saying, "You. Come. You. Silas needs."

"Anyways it was lovely to meet you I hope you have a lovely evening good night." The words came out in a single breath and he turned around and walked into the hat shop, stuffing one of the remaining bao into his face as if to dam the flow of idiocy that poured from it.

Lita grinned openly at Resh's rapidly retreating form, then finally allowed herself a bit of a laugh when he had disappeared into the hat shop. The young man had been interesting, though why he had seemed interesting was an oddity in and of itself. She'd met plenty of awkward young fellows in this city, and while it was rather fun to fluster them at times, it wasn't exactly a challenge. Lita was old enough now to know, and accept, that when it came to men her taste ran closer to the knife's edge than the handle. While pleasant, Resh shouldn't have kept Lita's attention for more than a minute - if that.

Odd. She had felt odd ever since that rusting alleyway. With a sigh, Lita slipped a little white card out of her dress and wrote In case you change your mind on the back. The front had an address stamped in gold ink - the room she kept on retainer at The Grand down in the Financial District. It was a bit gaudy, if Lita was being honest, but dressing up like a wealthy socialite required the trappings to go with. Besides, the DA could afford the cover story. She was pretty sure they kept an entire Alley stocked with gold simply for Soulcasting practice. Currying favors and maintaining high connections only worked if you could back it up. At the top of the card was her name - or the name that she used outside the Alleys, anyway: Lita LaPetit. She cast one more look at the window before wedging the card between the seam of the curb just outside the hat shop. If the young man was half as clever as Lita suspected, he'd see it when he left. If he wasn't, then it was no loss to her. She had no time for the unobservant.

She continued on down the street, her pen back in her hand, twitching and spinning out the reports she'd gotten in the time she'd taken to chat. Apparently there was some kind of prison break and ensuing chase towards the center of the festivities - as usual the local Radiants were getting involved. Lita rolled her eyes, telling the DoCI agent in the area to stay out of harm's way but keep an eye out and identify whoever possible. With luck, they'd expand their records of known Radiants - not that it was particularly difficult. Those Surgebinders loved to show off. Another report - two more R&D personnel had attempted to sneak into the Festival and were stopped.

Rust and ruin, she'd need to have a word with someone about that bunch. Lita sighed, turning down a side street away from the center of the Festival and the inevitable chaos ensuing there. Things were a little quieter here, on the edge of the Scadrian Quarter, and more familiar. There were still plenty of masked revelers about, carrying sparklers and cups of wine. An older man sat on the steps of a boarding house and played a reel on the fiddle while some couples danced. Lita felt herself relax a bit as she neared her destination, and she smiled up at the sign when she finally reached the door.

The Windlass was an odd little place, part wine house, part tea parlor, and wholly indefinable. The owner was a Malwish explorer named Fritz, and his wife Kari was a little Selish Forger of middling skill. Together, they had made the Windlass both familiar and exotic, Fritz bringing all his wide connections and imports, and Kari Forging the interior to their blended taste.

Lita stepped through the door and situated herself in a far corner. The Windlass was busy tonight, which was good. She'd blend in, and anyone who wished to come and speak with her could do so without being too memorable. Lita sent out her location to the agents in the city, ordered a small glass of port, and waited. It had already been an unpredictable evening, but she could at least rely on the quality of Fritz's wine cellar.

"Of course my good man! You've made your beliefs known! You have made it clear you wish to remain damned and I commend you for sticking true to your decision. May Isarok forgive you."

Eishtar made a speedbubble with just the two of them in it. He stared at Reval as his grin faded into pity.

"Because I sure as hell won't"

Eishtar drew his gun and fired, aiming for the man's kneecap as the zealot lept backwards to gain distance, jumping out of the speedbubble, landing with an agility that didn't fit his frame. The crowd would have seen the flash but heard no gunshot, but he didn't care whether or not they noticed.

I'm not sure if that can work, to be honest? I always pictured a speed bubble to be a bubble, and as Vivi is standing very, very close to him, she should be included? But then I can easily be wrong here - it's nothing I know a lot about.

===============

Althea kept her face impassive when a large chunk of debris fell to the ground behind her. They were running out of time. And quickly. "I suggest we start." Tapping a tiny bit of stormlight, just enough to make her feel a little stronger she turned around towards the building and forced her thoughts to concentrate on the facts.

"I can take us to the top, so that we can move down, evacuate whoever is still inside. Given the fact that it's the festival night, many won't be home and I suspect that those able to will be either outside, or on their way there already. The firebrigade should be here soon - there's no way they missed it, so we probably only need to cover a short amount of time until we get some support."

Taking a deep breath she turned back, forced her eyes to rest on something else. "Most likely we will have to help those unable to walk, be it because of age, bodily condition or alcohol." And if they had family, they were either out, celebrating, unable to help their relatives or not caring about them. Extending her hands she forced herself to pretend it was a normal building, something harmless. She could do this. She had to. She had sworn an oath to control her emotions, to master her fear. And she could do it. Fear was a tool, something to make her aware of danger. It was nothing that could rule her completely. Hopefully.
