Aluminum he/him Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Minor spoilers for Warbreaker and Mistborn One of the biggest questions with the 1-year time gap between Oathbringer and Rythem of War is that Szeth is with the Radiants. We want the Nightblood Zahel meeting to occur onscreen but it feels weird if they've never interacted during the whole year. So, I have two theories one boring and one slightly more interesting. 1. The easy answer is just Szeth is in prison and refuses to let anyone else hold on to Nightblood. If so that's going to be a very irritating sentence. Imagine trying to meditate while Nightblood talks your psychic ears off. 2. This one is more interesting. When using advanced Steelsight and from shards perspective, at least on Scadrial you see a bright light inside people. So what if that is how Nightblood sees the world. He recognizes people by their spiritual aspect or whatever. Anyway, perhaps Vasher with divine breath is different from Vasher suppressing his divine breath but with normal breath and also different from Vasher with no normal breath and a suppressed divine breath. The theory is sort of falling apart as I think about it but it's an interesting idea 2
Frustration Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Zahel is one person in hundreds if not Thousands of people in Urithiru, unless a lot of people interact with wherever Nightblood is being held/Szeth it is entirely possible that they would not meet. 1
Aminar Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 That's a good question. But one with a lot of potential answers. The easiest one being Zahel heard about the sword and hid from it and Szeth for whatever the reasons are he hasn't gone searching for Night blood since(likely just grumpy pique.) 1
Karger he/him Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 I personally hope that Lift will be safeguarding Nightblood. 4

earthexile Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I think it would cause Dalinar a more or less constant sequence of fight, arguments, distrust, etc if he kept the Assassin In White around and demanded that everyone just get over it. Szeth killed important people in a lot of nations. People already think Dalinar is trying to take over the world, if they find out he commands the guy who killed all their kings, they'll assume it was on Dalinar's orders. I think Szeth is likely to be kept as far away from Urithiru as possible, doing high risk black ops type stuff. And Dalinar is no longer Kholin Highprince, which means the ardents will probably be around even less than they already were. All in all, it seems very possible to me that Szeth and Zahel never run into each other. 3

Well the first person Szeth killed was Dalinar's brother so they should see reason, no wait, that makes it worse.

I think this is the right answer: Dalinar sends Szeth away, Zahel stays around Urithiru, but hears about a black sword and puts two and two together. My real question is does Zahel know about Azure, and does Azure know about Zahel? Or, even better, does Zahel know about Azure's sword? 1

Azure knows about Zahel, she recognized the kata(spelling?) that Adolin and Kaladin did while they were in the cognitive realm. I can't exactly recall what she said, but it was something to the effect of "I know who your Swordmaster is." Whether he knows about her sword, I don't know. But, he probably knows she's looking for him. Edited May 12, 2020 by Harrycrapper 2

You did not but we have this WoB. Quote jmcgit Compared to Oathbringer, how much Szeth are we going to see in the book? Brandon Sanderson This one, probably less Szeth than Oathbringer. Mostly, because we're going to get his big plot in the next book. There's some cool Szeth stuff in this still, but we're looking more like first book Szeth rather than third book Szeth, where I give him his own micro plot in book 3. jmcgit I was kind of imagining, he's like the first character expected to die in the first five books. Brandon Sanderson He starts in jail, in book four. Because Dalinar told him to go there. DragonCon 2019 (Aug. 31, 2019)
