has it been confirmed that those who puffed away of the fused were dead dead? I know the Alethi soldiers puffed away, but can't recall about the fused or if it says that their spirits didn't simply return to the everstorm

Nightblood destroys on all three realms, so their souls were basically shredded and consumed into Nightblood, as all investiture he contacts is. Additionally, matter, energy, and investiture are equivalent a la E=mc^2 (but with another variable for Investiture), so he likely dissolves the physical stuff into investiture and consumes that too.

Basically, Nightblood is a non-gravitational black hole in the shape of a sword. Once you pass the event horizon, nothing can get back out.

Except whatever the equivalent of Hawking Radiation is for Nightblood.

the radiation equivalent is probably the black smoke constantly venting out of his blade or at least related to it

That's exactly what I was thinking, yeah. Didn't brandon say in a WoB that it was "corrupted Breath" or something? I feel like I've heard that somewhere before.

this wob implies there at most dead at least in a very bad spot

Questioner

My question is not really a question, it's more of a theory. How Odium keeps the Fused around is more if he has them tied to his essence, so it's like he's essentially fishing them out of the Spiritual Realm and since their minds are left behind in the Cognitive Realm and their minds are *inaudible* damaged, because their spirits are separated and it just pulls them back.

I'm 100% convinced Nightblood did kill the thunderclast, because Nightblood consumes all investiture, that's something I asked you back at Barnes and Noble a couple years ago, during Christmas and you said your soul is investiture. So my thought is, that thunderclast isn't coming back any time soon.

Brandon Sanderson

You are correct on that one.

Questioner

When I saw that, my thought was, "Yep, It's dead." Other people were like, "I don't know, will it come back?" Nope.

Brandon Sanderson

I'll tell you this. They have not run into something like this before, and there will be ramifications of what happened there.

Questioner

That is fun to know.

Brandon Sanderson

If you are used to death having no consequence, and suddenly your friend vanishes forever...

Questioner

Yeah I, know I already thought of that. They're going to fight over Nightblood.

Brandon Sanderson

Mmm.

probably this one

Anyway, Nightblood is named for the smoke he leaks, and he originally had a different name when he was created. Vasher himself dubbed the sword Nightblood after he had used it to kill the woman he loved. The blackness that leaks out is actually corrupted and consumed Breaths, the ones that Nightblood leeches off anyone who draws him.

your welome something i wanna see is the exact relation between nightbloods smoke and the vapors released when one is killed by a shardblade my best geuss both are just forms of altered gaseous investiture

Green Hoodie Mistborn

Is there any relation between the smoke that is emitted when a Shardblade cuts somebody and the smoke that Nightblood emits in Warbreaker?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, there is.

Interesting. Seith being a trained assassin might mean that he wipes out a good chunk of the fused. On the other hand one of the fused said most of them have not been reborn yet and that is why they lost. So Nightblood has plenty of evil left to slay

What if somehow Odiums team parshendi fused or T were to get Nightblood? Not sure how it could happen Brandon likes his surprises and keeping the underdogs down.

I am not sure that any fused can use Nightblood with any degree of safety.

There are things I want to happen in this book, and I've talked about theories I have for this book, but there is nothing I really expect from it. Audience expectations are rarely met, and creating them usually leads to disappointment. Besides, I haven't been as on board with some of Sanderson's latest releases (Starsight was good, but not as good as Skyward; and the last Legion novella took the series in a direction I personally didn't like), so I'm staying wary for now.
