I actually think that he is behind Trell(I know a lot of people think it's Autonomy I'll have to check white sand for the exact connection but until then this is my cannon.) I don't think the series will open with a direct Odium confrontation. That seems like a lot to just start with. You are going to need a lower level threat for us to fight first.

Well so are Spren, and yet [SA Spoiler] Spoiler Hoid manages to come to Scadrial even after bonding a Cryptic on Roshar. So maybe he accidentally led the Fused into figuring out how to leave, and that's why Trell is even a problem for Era 2 in the first place.
