I recently read White Sand 3 and while I personally did not like it I did come up with a few questions feel free to add your own.

1. Baon can master.  Khriss cannot.  What is up with that?  What determines who can and cannot master?

2. Elorin relates meeting the Sand Lord and from his flashbacks it looks like he is speaking literally.  Who did Elorin meet?  I would guess the avatar of Autonomy took physical form for some reason but it could also be the A'kar using sand mastery secretly.  Also if he took form why?  What is up with him?

3. Satisfaction is no longer a thing but Kenton still thinks it is.  Could this please be cleared up?

4. Why did Kenton let Khriss into the Deim when he previously said that doing so was wrong and why is he letting her go away to Darkside with the express intention of creating sand masters outside of the Deim's control?

5. What strange ability is Kenton using to feel the entire sand during his duel?

Feel free take make a guess or two(although keep your aluminum hats off).

We have no idea, and we never have.

That sums up most of your questions really.

They should still be asked.

Don't disagree. Just saying for now we don't have a lot to go on.

Unfortunately, this particular format is a lot harder to dig through for clues.

It's frustrating.

I recommend the Graphic Audio version, it's as close to a prose version as we will get for a little while. Though, it still won't be as easy as a straightforward prose version.

I don't suppose there is a way to get that transcribed?

We don't know, but I think someone should ask Brandon about that since he's previously used Baon as an example of someone who isn't Invested.

Are Sand Masters invested?  The investiture itself comes from the sand.  The Master just connects with it.  Also at the time he might not have been invested.

I thought about suggesting to anyone who buys it to use a text to speech program and let it run while they go to work or school. However, I remembered that there are made up words in White Sand just like every other fantasy/sci-fi book and that would probably not work as well as anyone would like. You could still try that and edit the parts it gets wrong, might cut down the time it would take to transcribe it all yourself. And I will not and will not suggest anyone that tries to transcribe it themselves distribute it as that would probably be a violation of copyright in some way and I doubt Brandon and his team would condone that.

They would not.  In a good decade they will probably release it but by then I doubt it will matter.

Let me add one question to the list (which is likely also unanswerable right now, but maybe someone can ask Brandon at a signing some day): did Aarik pick up some kind of magic during his travels or is he just an insanely good warrior. That blindly caught arrow looked pretty supernatural and I was wondering if there were some Fortune or future sight shenanigans going on.

Aarik was always a good warrior no?  Even before his travels.

Aha! I thought I remembered this detail, but ascribed it to fan assumption.

Or maybe what happened to him at the end of White Sand v3 was external. Like a reaction of the white sand to something else he had on him, a kind of nicroburst effect.

These are all good questions. I did like WS3 more than the others and will need to re-read it but it seems that there's more mastery involved now in Darkside and we definitely need to know more about it. Has it ever been mentioned how long the series is?

The series is over.  The next series on Taldain will be following Khriss.

Yeah? Will it still be White Sand? Anywhere I can see this info?

Questioner

Taldain, are you going to do something with Darkside?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, we are actually... now that we have more experience with graphic novels, we are gonna do probably a Darkside-- three more graphic novels that are gonna be kind of like more focused on Khriss.

Questioner

Will there be a prose for that?

Brandon Sanderson

There will probably not be a prose for it. I will probably do Taldain novels in the future but I can't promise them. For right now we are just gonna do the graphic novels. They take a lot less time from me. And we are gonna see it how it works out. There are certain things we like and certain things we don't like, and mostly it's our fault, right? Not getting across some of the worldbuilding to the artists and things like that. We are gaining a lot of experience. But I don't plan on a prose Darkside novel anytime soon.

That image really jumped out at me as something more than normal physical ability.  His opening fight scene when he saved Ais was impressive, but catching the dart/arrow was too good to be natural.  I'd love to find out more about his past AND his future.  He's the most intriguing character to me in the series.

Yeah, I've been assuming for sure that Arik has some sort of magical ability. Reminded me of the fighting style one of the guys in Elantris... ClayShan or something?

I always assumed he was just naturally gifted at a high level and due to some training from a very young age.
