John slowly pulled out the mobile and turned on the screen. "This is what had been causing the beeping. It's also what's telling me to get out of here."

Atmose looked at the mobile. Crap, He thought. None of the locals can use that! Wasn't there some rule about telling or distributing items to locals? Something about interfering with natural progression...

Aben smiled at John "It's not so hard, see?" he paused, "So what is it?"

"The guy I bought it from called it a 'mobile'. It's... it allows me to communicate and play games, use a mini camera, even a small portable light. I don't know where it came from. I bought it at a place called Silverlight. Erm," He said, looking around, "I hate to tell you like this, but this isn't the only planet. There are lots more, and Silverlight is where people from all these planets can interact."

Yes, I am aware that some of these people are worldhoppers, and that some natives are aware due to an earlier post on this thread. However, John doesn't know any of that, so cut him some slack.

I wasn't trying to be passive aggressive, I apologize if I came off that way.

Atmose sighed. "Well, that cat's out of the bag now. Guess me and Vena should come clean too. What John said is true, there are many other planets and places in this universe."

John spun around. "You're worldhoppers?"

No, stick, it's alright. I just was trying to forstall any future argument.

Attayl listened to the conversations, worldhoppers, the strange device. She was lost, but that was fine. She was used to be lost and left out. As everybody seemed to want to follow Nerin, except for Brillin maybe, who had been silent as well, she silently grabbed another rag and started cleaning the main parlor as well. She would stay here, her association with the Scarlets was too strong, her presence at the warehouse would endanger those handing over the money.

"I will stay here."

She stated loudly, hoped that anybody would notice and not think her unfriendly for her lack of words. Then she concentrated on removing the traces the customers of the last evening had left behind.

Brillin looked up and stood. “I will stay here too,” he said with finality. “I mean, in case that wasn’t obvious already.”

He looked blankly at the weird sort of chirping that was occurring. And someone said it was a bomb. But why what a bomb chirp? Dynamite hissed, not whatever sound was happening now. And then the person brought out what seemed like a stone slab painted black and they started babbling about other planets and some type of light and others agreed and Brillin laughed.

“You’ve got to be joking. Between this and the two people who can apparently ‘smell emotions’, I’m starting to believe half the people in this Parlour are living in their own dream world. Or you’re trying to scam me, and while I might be new here, I’m not gullible to fall for whatever little thing you guys are saying.”

He turned to Attayl. “Are you hearing this?”

Nerin came back down the stairs to see Attayl cleaning again, and the rest of the group bunched around John, who was holding a small flat piece of...something? It was shiny like polished jet. Some kind of gemstone, or a rock?

"What's all this, now?" She asked Brillin, who was grinning derisively at the group.

Brillin gestured to John and the group. “Apparently there are other planets, like something named after a light,” he said sarcastically. “And that stone he has allows him to magically communicate with people.”

Keep in mind Second Era Scadrial doesn’t even have the radio yet, so a phone’s going to be beyond their scope of imagination. Well, behind Brillin’s, anyway.

Attayl looked up from the lamp she was polishing and nodded. Returning to his table she wiped it clean.

"I feel like I'm missing some vital information here."

She admitted and smiled at him again.

"But that's fine. I've got a roof above my head and asking questions..."

Trailing off her smile vanished. That was a lesson she had learned the hard way. Lowering her voice further she whispered.

"They frighten me. Now they use their strange things to fight the Farriers, but what about afterwards? Worldhoppers, that sounds like they came back from the other side."

"Joke!" John spun around, tapping his metalmind so he wouldn't begin breathing heavily. "Was it a joke that my father died! My sister! Here," And John thrust the mobile into Brillin's hands. "Take this. Use your finger, tap that thing right there." He indicated an icon on the screen.

Atmose walked over to John. "Calm down John. I and Vena can easily prove our being world-hoppers." Atmose pulled out a piece of chalk and drew a line of forbiddance on the ground and turned to Nerin, Attayl, and Brillin. "Try to walk over that. No, I'm not joking."

John raised an eyebrow. Atmose must of been trying to use Investiture, but this was unlike anything he had ever seen.

The chalk magic is from the Rithmatist, right? I haven't read it yet.

It's so good! This (melody declared) is a tragedy! Basically, a wall of forbiddance is an invisible wall, strong enough to stop gun shots and cannons.

I don't have time for this, Nerin thought, feeling a slight frown beginning to form between her brows. She glanced towards Jeb and the new fellow, the one who claimed to know about where to find a Farrier watch house.

She sighed, stepping towards the line, when her foot just...stopped. Nerin nudged the line again with her toe, harder this time. The air before her foot felt solid as a wall. She looked at Atmose and the tiny piece of chalk he held between his fingers, then back at the shiny square John had shoved into Brillin's hands.

"What is this?" She asked, feeling a new bubble of anxiety inflate within her. Too much at once, too much to think about. Nerin slid one of her hairpins out of her hair and twirled it between her fingers. The familiar motion calmed her a bit, but she still looked at Atmose, Vena and John through narrowed eyes. She Soothed some of their self-assurance and reserve, hoping to make them more likely to talk, and less likely to lie.

Atmose dismissed his line of forbiddance, making it vanish. "My sister also has some off-planet tools as well." Vena nodded and summoned her Shardblade.

"I can't use rithmatics like my brother, but I have this sword. It's a shardblade and can cut through anything by severing the soul's connection to its body. And my armor, shardplate, is basically impenetrable to most things on Scadrial." Vena explained.

Attayl walked over to the line, as Atmose had told her to do so, but then he touched it, and it was gone, before she could try to cross it. A wall. A line was no wall. This was stupid. Nerin hada strange expression on her face, but still, it was impossible.

Then he summoned a sword. She stared at the huge blade first in awe, then in fear. Smiling at Vena, to cover her fear, she moved over to Nerin, her hand reaching for her knife.

Scadrial, impenetrable. Sounded bad. As in, I want your money bad. Asking Nerin with a glance if they wanted to take Brillin and flee, she then turned and continued to smile at Vena while she asked:

"What do you want? Money? Fun? Power?"

Vena blinked, and dismissed her blade. "Wait, what? I just thought if we were going to see the Farriers, we should know what we're all capable of."

Attayl took a step back when the blade suddenly vanished. So she could call it. Whereever she wanted? She wished she would know what impenetrable meant and where this Scadrial was located, or how you could cut a soul, but in the end the explanation was easy.

You never showed of your strength like that, if you didn't plan to use it, to blackmail. So they wanted to use them to get rid of the Farriers, and then they probably would take their place. Strangers, from the south. She had heard strange stories about the south. It was said to be a completely different world. Worldhoppers. That explained it. And cutting a soul had to be a similiar expression. Megaphone, or something like that these things were called.

"Thank you for showing us."

She replied stifly, her eyes sweeping through the room. Next time she would summon the blade above their heads. Kill them. Or blackmail them. Force them to owe her something and then they would have to work for her. Attayl knew this type of people. Arrive at a new place, bring better weapons, use the gangs there to wipe themselves out and then take their place. She grabbed Nerin's arm and took another step back.

"We can't trust them."

She whispered quietly.

Nerin's eyes widened as Vena simply conjured an enormous sword out of thin air.

It could cut through anything? Severing the soul? Attayl moved to her side, and Nerin could read the poorly-concealed terror in her eyes.

Vena blinked, and dismissed her blade. "Wait, what? I just thought if we were going to see the Farriers, we should know what we're all capable of."

The blade disappeared again, back into a slight mist, then...nothing.

"Harmony," Nerin whispered, locking eyes with Jeb, who looked just as surprised, if slightly less frightened.

"We can't trust them," Attayl whispered to her, her nails digging into Nerin's arm.

Nerin sent a small Soothing out to her, taking the edge off her panic. The last thing she needed was for this to break into hysteria.

"What do you want, then?" Nerin said, addressing not only Atmose and Vena but John, and the newcomer with the strange eyes. He'd spoken about another world, too. "All of you. Why are you here?"

"I can't speak for them," Atmose said, "But I and Vena accidentally came here. We had been trying to get to the Alle- to somewhere but ended up here. In the end, we decided to stay here for awhile."

That girl's been carrying that sword around since she arrived with her brother last night, Nerin thought, chewing the inside of her cheek. And she hasn't tried to rob or kill us all. This parlor was the wrong place to stage some kind of gang coup - Sethwick's wasn't nearly important enough, and no one here was truly affiliated with a powerful gang or involved in anything particularly lucrative.

Nerin saw the way Vena's eyes followed her brother. They care for each other. That much was obvious. Would she really knowingly bring her younger brother into a gang war? No, this is an unforseen event to them, too.

And an invisible sword would be quite the ace in the hole if they ran into any trouble out on the street. Attayl was right, they couldn't trust these people.

But, Nerin could use them for now.

"Alright," she said, sliding her hairpin back into her hair next to its twin. She pointed to Atmose and Vena. "You two, you're coming with me, the new fellow and that cashbox. Anyone else? I want to get this rusting business over with."
