I haven't made it yet, but as far as I can tell, it would be a spicy shellfish stew, with various shellfish and rice and veggies

Why would you make a stew that has dung in it?

You only make that variation when you're serving a known enemy

If you were going to make Horneater stew here on Earth, how would you go about it?

Brandon Sanderson

If I were going to make Horneater stew, on Earth, how would I go about it. It's going to be a spicy seafood stew. When I think of Horneater stew I'm actually thinking of Yukgaejang which is a Korean dish. Or Haemultang is what I mean. Haemultang is a spicy-- spicy seafood-- it's basically whatever thing from the ocean-- I don't eat things from the ocean personally-- but everything from the ocean they want to throw in there with some spices. They stir it up and give it to you and if you like fish in there and there are like crab claws and full clams in the shells. You're like "Really guys?" But Rock would just be munching those down and being happy.

I mean, it's not a recipe, but you can look up how to make Yukgaejang! Hope this helps!!

Mmmmmm, seafood gumbo...

But yeah, Brandon's told us he had Korean hotpot in mind for Rock's stews. Which is how I found myself motivated to try it. I love seafood and I love soups but I never ordered that particular combination from Korean restaurants until I saw that WoB and decided I just had to give it a go with friends.

Speaking of culinary 'I thought it was more like X' stories, I always imagined Chouta as being more like a shawarma until being exposed to WoBs where Brandon gave us his inspiration for Herdazian food. :D

I love how one of the Cosmere constants is that protagonists are usually as grossed out by seafood as Brandon is. He's amazingly open minded when it comes to religion, politics, philosophy, but his descriptions of shellfish are always repulsive.

Brandon doesn't like seafood and shellfishes and is writing an entire world where the animals are shell-based? That's daring! I also thought Rock's stew is something like gumbo because I don't remember it being described as red or spicy, which many Korean dish tend to be. No idea what shawarma is, but when I heard about chouta it sounded like a  burrito!

I always thought of a gyro when I heard of chouta, and I love conversations like this where we get a little glimpse into other people’s envisaging of Brandon’s stories. Always Interesting.
