He looked at him, smiling slightly and adopting a confused, amused smile. "Really? Well... Thank you..." He hummed. "So... how are you liking the training I'm giving you? Think you've been improving?"

He grinned. "I'm well aware of my skills. It saved my life, or I wouldn't have become so good... I'm glad your improving. How's my stamp holding up? Those things are sacred to me..." He smiled, sincere. Those things were the reason he was here, alive, and also the main reason he wasn't in a ditch somewhere a dead, scarred up little boy.

GTG, dinner.

Shae smiled, looking at it. "Thank you... it's yours now, but I do feel better knowing that it's with you..." He handed it back, smiling. "So... I've been thinking... you don't really know much about me, and I don't know much about you. Would you like to play a game? We each ask a question, the other answers honestly, and we keep going until one of us gives up. Sound fun?" He smiled.

He blinked, staring at him in a bit of confusion. "No... My dad was the one that taught me how to fight, and my mom taught me forging and a lot of art." He thought for a moment then looked at him. "What made you want to ask?" That question went pretty deep. After all, was it just concern? Or was it more than that?

Dan put his face in his hands and said, "When I was ten and tried to kiss a guy because... uh... well... I thought he was good-looking when all the girls were just my friends." He looked up at Shae with a blush on his face. "Okay, my turn. Have you ever kissed a person in a romantic sort of way?"

He shook his head without having to think. "Nope. You were my first kiss, and that..." He blushed at the memory, "was accidental..." He cleared his throat. "S-so... how did you learn to fight?"

See, that's how I can tell it's Shae and not a Kandra who ate Shae.

"A famous somewhat-gay-with-a-boyfriend warrior taught me. His name is Wereci, and he's like... the hottest guy ever." Dan looked up at the sky, then back at Shae, who wasn't hot, just... really cute. Why is that the first thing I think of? "Okay, what did you do before you came to the Alleyplanet? I remember something about a market..."

Because of a blush and a stutter?

Shae blushed, feeling annoyed and disheartened. He mentally cursed that Wereci man, determined to learn more about him eventually. Maybe he'd learn what the guy looked like and be able to learn what Dan thought was hot... thoughts for later. He focused on the now. "Well... I was a painter. I made paintings using ridiculously amazing paint, and sold or gave it to the most rich and powerful men and women and gods on the planet..." He smiled, remembering those days. "Who were your parents?"

"A Winged woman who had spent most of her life as a messenger for a godling, and a Tesan explorer who had always wanted to see the stars up close, until said godling him that they were actually enormous radioactive flaming balls of death. They both went to this planet when they got the chance, fu-- I mean, did it, and thus, there is me."

Shae blinked, then blushed deeply. "A-ah... I see. Er... so... Okay then..."He cleared his throat, biting his lip as he waited for the next question to come.

He nodded. "Okay... so... questions?"  A gentle reminder that would look like him trying to change the subject from embarrassment. The continued blush and genuine desire to return to the question game made that easy to use.

He blinked. "But... it's your turn... are you sure?" He kind of wanted to hear what Dan was curious about, and that purr with that grin made him want to kiss the man. He needed something to distract him, preferably memories.

Shae blinked, freezing. The memory flashed across his mind- the sound of glass and crystal cracking, fire and heat, shards of broken materials shooting past him and leaving him both burned and scarred, being dragged away and healed a bit by the man who'd taken him... He zoned out, staring at Dan with eyes that weren't actually seeing him, stuck in visions of the past and the pain and terror of that single moment.

He flinched, trembling and gripping Dan suddenly, gasping for breath as he came to his senses, as if he had forgotten how to breath during that moment. "Explosion... a bad one... I don't want to talk about it..." He just held on without letting go, not certain he'd be able to handle himself if he let go of the comfort right now. He certainly didn't plan on going home tonight anymore, not after that memory... He'd probably be out of it for a few hours at least.

"I'm sorry," Dan said quietly. "You're alright now, I'm here. Don't worry about it." He felt like he was going to start crying, for some reason, but prevented himself. He wouldn't let anything happen to Shae. He wrapped his wings around the two of them, trying to enforce that sense of security.
