It's ridiculous to me that some people think that it's right to side with the Stormcloaks. When you side with Hadvar, he says, "Stormcloaks. Maybe we can reason with them." Whereas when you side with Ralof, I don't think negotiation is in his vocabulary. This happens throughout the game. The Stormcloaks are filled with hate for the Empire and other races, whereas Tullius is simply trying to keep his country in one piece after already losing so much of it to the Thalmor (whom he also hates)

It makes the most sense to have surrendered to the Thalmor like the Empire did, Skyrim would’ve been crushed had it tried to fight back like the Stormcloaks want.
