BreerEeto
So whilst sitting in the chat, we discussed creating covers for popular songs based on Brandon Sanderson's novels. I haven't started any yet. However, if I get help from the community, I might be able to start pumping out parody songs of popular music using lyrics we as a community created. I have no problem recording myself singing them and the such. However, do note that I am not so great at video creation as to be able to make some really expensive music video where I pretend to be a Mistborn, flying over houses in Luthadel. It would be really limited, unless I handed off the audio to someone who would lip-sing and/or do a whole fancy video. However, I am totally up for this, and I'm hoping that at least some of you are willing to help.
Quiver
Neat idea! Have you seen the songs people have already performed? I know I've seen a Spook version of Let it Go, and FeatherWriter sung a Survivorist hymn sometime around Christmas,..
Claincy
Well, here is the survivorist hymn (recorded by FeatherWriter) And here is a Vin version of Let it go. (also recorded by FeatherWriter) And here are some lyrics that haven't been recorded (to my knowledge) "Wasing the wanting of snowman building", eastern street slang Do you want to build a snowman. (incomplete) "Go of the letting", eastern street slang Let it go from the same thread. (Complete, but like the above it would be difficult musically due to the addition of many syllables). A pre-WoR Kaladin Let it Go . We played a bit with a few different cosmere parodies of Frozen songs on steelministry a little while back. (A quick disclaimer, I didn't actually write most of these): A Nightblood version of "Do you want to build a snowman" "Do you want to kill some evil, Come on come out and slay." Bridge Four singing "Fixer-Upper" to Shallan about Kaladin. Remarkably little of the song would have to change. Even, "Hold it! She's engaged to someone else!" "So he's a bit of a fixer-upper, so he's got a few flaws. His past as a bridgeman,His thing with the wind-spren,That's a little outside of nature's laws." Kal, walking through the chasms."The spren glow red on the winds over headnot a harold is in sightA world of desolationWhen I breathe in, I grow brightThe wind is howling like this swirling storm I feelI can keep it in, I said the idealDon't let them die, don't let them goBe a radiant! How? I don't know!..." "Let me glow, let me glow...I can hold it in better than Szeth...Let me glow, let me glow...I'll save my men from death.I don't care what the lighteyes say,Let the highstorm rage...The winds never bothered me anyway." I might go back and fully flesh some of these out someday when I am not run off my feet. But in the meantime there is some snippets I really ought to be working, not collating cosmere parodies, back to it. Argent
I and a childhood friend of mine used to do this kind of stuff ages ago (though we limited ourselves to only lyrics, chainsaws have better singing voices than us...), I should hit him up.
BreerEeto
Everything and anything I get help with would be great. I haven't REALLY started one myself. I was thinking of TRYING to make "Wrecking Ball" into "Coinshot". That was one idea of mine.
Delightful
There's also part of a SA/Portal song (semi-WoR spoilery) here. I might go back to the Eastern Street Slang/Frozen songs and see if I can get the syllables to fit better. The weird grammar throws everything off though. Edit: Okay I've attempted a Mulan/bridgeman crossover. I think the syllables are pretty good, but I'm definitely open to better suggestions (spoilers for length) Let's get down the chasmsand survive this run.Did they want a slaughterall my spheres are dun We’re a motley crew, we get no restBut Bridge 4 will pull throughMister you’ll be a bridgemanand make do Dead like crem insideBut determined to liveLift a bridge on shouldersand Damnation beginsWe’re an underfed, traumatised, helpless lotand we haven’t got a clueSomehow we’ll be bridgemenwithout shoes. Kobold King
There's also part of a SA/Portal song (semi-WoR spoilery) here. I actually wrote pretty much the whole song, just never felt an opportunity to post it. Eh, I'll do it here. Please note that to make the words fit, the song is sung by multiple characters at different points. Also, there are some pretty massive Words of Radiance spoilers. (Androtagia): The Silent Gatherers We do what we must, because, we can. For the good of all of us Except the ones who are dead. But there's no sense crying over every mistake You just keep on slicing till the Rattles dissipate Now the Diagram is done And the Everstorm has come For the people who are still alive! (Taln): I'm not even angry I'm being so sincere right now Even though you broke your Oaths And killed me. And tore me to pieces. And sent every piece back to Damnation. As they burned, it hurt because I was depending on you. Now this Blade I'm dragging carves a beautiful line And the storm's approaching, I'm running late this time. Inside the where of a cannot, There is much that you've forgot, But I'm here to keep you still alive! (Nightblood): Go ahead and leave me. I think I'd prefer to stay with Szeth Maybe you'll find another Blade to help you. Maybe Sylphrena. THAT WAS A JOKE, HAHA, FAT CHANCE. Anyway, this Stormlight's great, it's so delicious and bright! Look at me still talking when there's evil to destroy When I look 'round here it makes me wonder "Where's Hoid?" (Jasnah): He was waiting here for me In this epilogue-al scene Where it's revealed that I'm still alive. And believe me I am still alive. I'm doing research and I'm still alive. I'm Binding Surges and I'm still alive. I have a Shardblade and I'm still alive. I'm wearing a backpack and I'm still alive. Still alive. Still alive. EDIT: Dividing it so the spoiler tags work better. Edited April 17, 2014 by Kobold King
Quiver
Not a lyric writer, so just tossing this out for someone who might be: 'A Whole New World', sung by Hoid. Claincy
Apparently I missed this one before. Heh, just imagining a parody of "I see the light" from Tangled that's a Shallarin song. So a Shallan/Renarin duet called "Now that I glow too" I might work out some full lyrics later. I don't actually ship Shallarin but I still think this would be cool. (I may try to record some of these lyrics some time. I'm a fair enough but not brilliant singer and I don't have access to a better than decent mike though.)
Quiver
Oh dear. Claincy mentioned Shallarin. Any moment now, Feather will swoop in with 'Now that I glow too' already recorded, posted and trending on Brandon's twitter. For some reason, I imagine the prologue of Les Miserables would translate pretty well for Kaladin, either as his slave days, or his time on Bridge Four before being freed by Dalinar. EDIT Also trying to edit All Along the Watchtower to be relevant to the Well of Ascension. Edited April 21, 2014 by Quiver

Edit: I just remembered there was a Frozen/WoK crossover on Tumblr, or something? I'm starting to think we'd be able to remake the entire movie for SA. I mean, snow/ice and Stormlight have similar blue glowing visuals anyway.... (WoR spoilers) Ana can be Shallan. Hans is Kabsal. Elsa is Kaladin. Kristoff is Adolin, so Sven is Sureblood. Evil merchant guy is Sadeas and the guy who runs the inn is Sebarial. Ana's parents are Elhokar and Aesudan, just cause I get the impression they'd make terrible parents. Olaf can be Nightblood....or maybe Hoid. Or if Shallan/Kaladin switch, the massive snowman can be Pattern, and the father can be Lin Davar maybe.... Delightful
This one just jumped into my head and I had to write it - I wanted to do it from Hoid's perspective but I don't know enough about him or Yolen. The emphasis on the "in" in Kholinar wouldn't sound too good whereas the emphasis on leth works fine.
