That's how to get in. The rest is fielded. I know what I'm talking about. If you've followed the thread at all, you'd realize I'm right.

Hellbent grabbed the chains holding Benson. "Let's go then."

Alrighty guys, I'll be off till tomorrow. See ya!

Fred received them at the base of the building.

"Alrighty," he said, "If you'll just follow me..."

He led them down towards the gate.

Just beyond the forcefield, standing in the shadow of a large rack, Vesuvius waited, holding the child by the neck.

The boy had stopped making noises, now. That was good.

Vesuvius saw a large group of people come into his line of sight and stop just before the field. One of them was Benson, chained and held by another, the man called Hellbent. Good.

The armless man was also there, and a couple of others he did not recognize. he committed their faces to memory.

He stepped out fo the shadow and walked forward, stopping just in front of his side of the field. He and they were close, now, but if either side tried to cross, they would be killed by the forcefield.

Vesuvius held the child towards them so that the boy's nose was near disintegrated by the field he knew was there.

"This boy," he said, simply, "For Benson. Once I have Benson, I will hand you the detonator to the bomb where the other children are. Don't attempt to find them before then. You will fail, and they will die,"

He paused for dramatic effect.

"Now," he said, "I hear there's an army preparing to attack. I don't want to be here when if it comes. Now, hand over Benson. Careful not to... kill him on the death field,"

Hellbent grinned, pushing Benson close to the field, inches away. "Oh, what if there was a little accident?" He pulled him back with a jerk. "What's in this for us?" Then, he shoved Benson forward. "Why shouldn't I just... let him die? Gravity can do the rest." Then, in one fluid movement, a knife was in Hellbent's hand, rapidly moving towards Benson's exposed neck, where the brainstem was.

Hellbent brought the knife back. "Son of a-" Benson was heavily chained, but he had managed to avoid it once. But he had chains around his neck, hands, waist, and Hellbent held the chains. So, as he moved, this time he jerked the chains, so that Benson would be off balance.

Althea cursed and the touched the mind of the boy Vesuvius was holding and took him with her to Shadesmar. She created a platform for him the lie on, and then returned, when she saw him collapse on it. She was no healer either he lived, or he didn't. Returning she faced Hellbent and Benson, soulcast a part of the chains holding the prisoner to dust, to give him some space to move.

"Stop it."

“I am. But Storm you, I don’t care if i die. I hate my life. But look at him,” benson said as he pointed at the alivened. “He cares.”

A croaking laugh came from his throat. "I'll let you live... for now... if you promise to fight me in a duel, investitureless, to the death, in two weeks time. Even footing." He went to silence.

LET HIM DIE, STORMING BASTARD!

Althea turned to Vesuvius, looked at him. She tapped Brashen and he quietly moved to observe Hellbent.

"I won't hand one of mine over."

She told Vesuvius calmly. Traitor or not, Benson belonged to them. And she wouldn't hand him over. They would need to find a solution, but not by offering him up to a stranger, to a criminal.

"Is there anything else we could offer, so that you leave the children alone?"

She asked and hoped he would say yes. There had to be something. Anything.

Max touched their bond, told her he would be home late and suddenly she was glad of that. The situation was bad enough, without him in danger as well.

Take your time.

After a short pause she added.

I love you.

NOT YET! Devaan roared in his mind Look at him. He's scared, he cares for others lives. He can be useful later on. Who would expect that he be a ghostblood spy?

"Hey kiddo" Devaan managed to say

"I'm the one stopping Hellbent from murdering you. So you have two options. Die now or get another two weeks. I don't know if I want to hold Hellbent back for much longer"

Benson sighed. “No investiture, even playing field.”

"No investiture and no weapons. Hand to hand"

Can I have the body back?

I’ll be making sure you don’t try to kill Benson

Devaan withdrew, giving Hellbent control

Hellbent nodded, stretching. "What happens now? We can't give Vesuvius Benson. We can't show weakness."
