Fanghur Rahl he/him Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 If this has already been done and pinned, please feel free to move this discussion to its appropriate place. I've now read the whole Stormlight Archive series currently published, and I can't help but think how amazing it could potentially be if made into either a film or better yet a high-budget series. Who does everyone think would be good to play the various characters? In my opinion, Manu Bennett would be hands down the best actor to play Dalinar. And I think Matt Smith would make a pretty good Wit/Hoid, and Aidan Gillen as Sadeas, but I'm not sure about the rest. I kind of think the guy who played Ander in the Shannara Chronicles would make a decent Adolin, and I generally picture Kaladin as being a younger Craig Horner.
BitBitio he/him Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 We know by WoB that Brandon wanted Dave Bautista to be Dalinar.
Fanghur Rahl he/him Posted July 28, 2018 Author Posted July 28, 2018 (edited) Honestly, I can’t picture that in anyway whatsoever. My reaction when I first heard that was literally “WTF?!?!?!” Edited July 28, 2018 by Fanghur Rahl
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I agree regarding Manu Bennet for Dalinar, although I could see Bautista do it too. Watch him in Blade Runner. He can do serious roles as well as Drax.
Calderis he/him Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Preferably people of mixed Arabic/Asian descent to stay true to the books. Only the Shin are Caucasian in appearance. 1

I do for example have Pedro Pascal as Mraize and Lucy Liu as Navani. And then there are characters like Nale or Ash who are canonically dark-skinned, and then you need to find black actors (Idris Elba for Nale!) 2

Only the Shin are Caucasian in appearance. The problem with this is that actors who fit that requirement are pretty scarce. The reason that I think that Manu Bennett would be great in the role of Dalinar is that while he may technically be Caucasian, his skin is dark enough that he doesn’t really look it, and also because in terms of his appearance, he pretty much matches Dalinar to a tee, in everything from skin tone, hair colour, facial hair, build, etc. Not to mention the fact that he thrives in similar roles in other series like Allanon in Shanara Chronicles. Bautista may have the right skin tone, but pretty much every other thing about him, especially his build, could not be more off. Dalinar is explicitly stated as being in great shape but hardly what one would call a professional weight lifter; Bautista is like 350 lbs, half of which is pure muscle. That’s why I had a major “WTF?!?!?!?!” reaction when I heard that Sanderson sees him as Dalinar. Edited July 28, 2018 by Fanghur Rahl
ScavellTane Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Hugh jackman for dalinar? Lucy liu for navani wouldn't quite work she would be kinda short for an Alethi. I would still prefer it to be animated, better to capture the finer details and nuance about the world.

Wouldn’t be that hard to do. Movies fix height issues all the time. And most of Navanis scenes are with Dalinar, so the height wouldn’t really matter all that much.
ScavellTane Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 I guess if they're going for live action, they're going to have to be fairly loose with the physical appearance of the characters.
Quantus he/him Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 If they went Live action, Id honestly hope they would abandon any particular drive to match racial traits to their general earth analogs, instead investing in the makeup to really highlight the oddly divergent evolution of the Roshar humans. That was somethign that really struck me about the setting, and something I initially attributed to the influence of Cultivation on the planet causing speedier divergent evolution. I really enjoyed that their racial traits were things like having metal fingernails or eyebrows that grew as long as scalp hair, stuff that to us seems as fantastical as naturally blue anime-hair
Singer she/her Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 I've always kind of pictured Wit as Paul Bettany, probably because of his role in Knight's Tale. I think Naveen Andrews (Sayid from Lost) could be an awesome Alethi High Prince, or maybe Gavliar. The most important question: How can we get a Jackie Chan cameo? Or at leat get him to choreograph some of the fights? 1
